Out I that lineup I own the: KSC75 Moondrop Old fashioned Philips X2HD Portapros Sportaproa I used to own the: HE400 MDR7506 I’ve owned my AKG240’s for almost 16 years now and know them well. I love them. For 80 dollars you get an excellent set of cans. Hard to dislike them imo. They have a good soundstage, feel fairly balance and when driven and eq’d do alright, I love them for gaming at this point. It’s all I really use them for at this point along side the X2HR’s But tbh, they are all great in their own way. I probably use the KSC75 the most out of all of them. I’m still getting a feel for the old fashioned but so far they are really good. Fill the bottoms more than the ksc75’s. They are closer in sound and feel to the ksc75’s than the portapros

Superlux HD681 and Samson SR850, but with velvet/suede earpads. Eh with stock shitty leather. 100-200$ sound with velvet pads. KSC75 if you don't mind the hooks. Moondrop Old Fashioned is really nice as well, sounds pretty similar to KSC75.

Just bought this out of curiosity. Surprised by how good it sounds to me. I think it's worth to recommend to someone who wants to enter the hobby with a minimum budget. I can't recommend enough.

I don't know how described the sound. Just... Amazing. For such price to sound really good to me, I'm satisfied. It fits me well, while I'm not used to On-ear Headphone it still comfortable to me and it's lightweight as well. Been using it with my Desktop DAC/Amp Hifiman EF500 and Chord Mojo 2. I own ATH R70x, but I can say the Moondrop Old Fashioned can come close to it.

Unfortunately I haven't seen any so far.

They sound lovely indeed. Unlike Koss, what I like the most from Old Fashioned is its Detachable design and cables. Ofc i haven't tried the Earhook model because I haven't seen any accessories in my country. But yeah, for only 25$ and how I love the sound, it's a bargain for me. Although I have to admit, the build quality doesn't far off from Koss.

Just got mine a couple weeks ago. I'm a headphone and audio novice but I'm genuinely perplexed why people say they have no bass. I probably haven't put them through their paces well enough yet but music I like to listen to with them like lofi and synthwave they are plenty bassy. The bass seems to have great texture as well which is what I care about more than punch. I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm not saying anyone is wrong, really. I just feel like I'm missing something. What are some good tracks to test the bass so I can get a feel for what's absent? I tried Doing it Right by Daft Punk and it felt just fine, but it's possible I'm just really sensitive to bass or something. Someone else told me my headphones like the 99 classics and HD 599 felt lacking of bass, but that person was a DJ so I've always assumed the people who make that kind of complaint are people who really really love bass. But I share your conclusion, 100%. For the money these things are a treat. Makes me wish Koss would make something this stylish and well put together. I don't think they eclipse Koss, I'm still glad I have Koss in my collection, but these are probably what I would recommend something who really really wants bang for their buck without it being crazy fragile. Unless they really like to pump the bass, I guess. Then I'm not sure what I'd recommend.

Okay, now I really do feel a little bit stupid. It's been a while since I took out the Kph40s. Yeah, this is better. There's something about the old fashioned that tickles me. Maybe it's because of hyperacusis or tinnitus making me really sensitive to the upper treble. But Koss certainly is great in that region too. I really like the aesthetics, build and adjustment of the moondrops but soundwise I bet most people are going to prefer koss.

Wired headphones tend to sound better because they only have to worry about sound quality first and foremost. Bluetooth headphones typically come with features, and ironically sound quality is not as much of a priority. Sadly, if you want a top tier sound with a wireless headphone, you will have to get the higher-end models, such as the Senheiser HDB630, Bose QuietComfort Ultra 2 and the Focal Bathys. All in my opinion, kind of overkill (with the exception of the Bose headphone, since their ANC quality alone is worth it.) That being said, how good a headphone sound isn’t necessarily determined by price. For example, the Koss KPH40s and the recent Moondrop Old Fashioned are good sounding cheap open-back headphones. There’s also cheap in-ear monitors (IEMs) that honestly sound as good as the average $80+ headphone. The 7Hz Zero 2 is around 20-25 USD, yet has great low end bass without muddying up the other sounds. Another factor is that a lot of Bluetooth headphones found within headphone shops are set to their stock tuning, which are typically tuned to be more bass heavy to appeal to the average consumer. With EQ, they can sound decent as well. I have a cheap Tozo HT3 that I bought for 50CAD, and its stock tuning was comically bloated in the bass. Using EQ, I can say that I like the headphones.

Grados are sharp. I adore mine, but you should know they are not for everyone. I highly recommend you start with something cheap and neutral like the koss kph40 or the new Moondrop Old Fashioned. Both are excellent headphones and are just about the comfiest thing you can get. Otherwise if you can spend a little more than your budget you can get Hifiman Sundaras - they are still some of my absolute favourites despite having headphones that cost twice as much (back when I got them in 2021 they were 300$ now you can find them for 140$). If you’d like something closed-back fiio Ft1 are my best recommendation, but again they might be a little over your budget.

Already tried. A poor imitation of the Koss KPH40. (just my personal opinion)

Got the Moondrop Old Fashioned in a few nights ago (after waiting almost a month for it to deliver), and was immediately impressed with them in a similar way to KOSS over-ears I've tried; they sit somewhere between the sound stage of a KPH40 and the tonality of a KSC75, and for that I think they exist as a fantastic all-rounder, though a KPH40 is probably a better stock sound for a variety of genres. What I was GENUINELY impressed with is that... they can take a very substantial bass boost without getting fuzzy/distorted and killing the perceived soundstage. I'm talking +6db low shelf at 80hz (needs to be pushed a bit past 60) for a honestly much superior all-rounder sound. It isn't the highest quality bass I've ever heard, obviously, but with this small little EQ addition, I honestly can not think of a headphone under $30... shit even $50-60 dollars that sounds better than this, even in the nicher audiophile-oriented space. It has a lot of the benefits of a bigger open back, and I would honestly take this headphone over... most closed back headphones? For $25 that's insane, honestly. I will admit; Koss has already lived in this "value for money over-ear" space for AGES, but I am glad to see other companies come in and make competing products; in this case what I perhaps feel to be a superior product even. Gear Tested on: FiiO E10k OLYMPUS Dac+Amp, Apple Dongle, M4 Mac Mini Headphone Jack EQ preset: LSQ 80Hz +6.0dB Q 1, PK 8kHz -2dB Q 2, PK 10kHz 6dB Q 1 (neutral-airy presentation; not perfect but just where I got to with first listening impressions)

Well, it's a bass boost on paper, but it's actually just getting the headphone closer to a neutral bass response, as the headphone in analog has SIGNIFICANT bass roll off. If that's cool with you, then awesome-- but idk if I would really call it "extra" sub bass. Also, I basically wear it low and back a little, which is most comfortable for me. This EQ profile basically just gets the headphone close to neutral for my ears/placement of the headphone, as by default it's kind of a mid forward headphone with a lack of treble and rolled off bass.
