Hi i am considering sony xm6 headphones for PC gaming, and video conferencing both activities would come out to about 14 hours a day 7 days a week of usage. This usage is quite heavy and the xm5 had some hinge or other manufacturing issues. i want to know if i use this frequently this will last a long time . i have used the blackshark v2 pro 2020 edition and it has worked with a single issues until now so almost 6 years maybe 6 years without an error i just hate the sound. i replaced the ear cushions once. so i dont care about the microphone i have my own microphone! your advice is greatly appreciated. The reason i am considering xm6, i may go out and about with these, and xm6 would be handy for that using my tablet or phone along side this would be most helpful. i dont mind using them wired on pc. thanks!
I've had mine for about 3 months now, I bought a new strap because the stock one was giving me a headache. I still have issue with them feeling like they are clamping too hard on my head and glasses tho. I have one of the really flexible meshy plastic comfort straps and have one side set to the middle, one side set to the top any looser and it feels like its gonna fall off my head, any tighter and it feels like a vice clamp. That's literally my only complaint. The sound is phenomenal. No issue with speakers, hardware/software or anything buggy on that. If they didn't weigh so much they'd be perfect. But I put on my old Razr Blackshark V2 pros, adjusted the equalizer and in comparison it sounds like actual crap. If I could get this comfort thing under control they'd be absolutely perfect. Sometimes I wish I could exchange them for something lighter but then I want the same kind of sound too. So I guess I'll put up with it until I find a solution.
I’ve had the blackshark v2 pro for like 3 years now (it replaced my wireless arctic pro 7, which had a worse mic imo) and love it. Like a lot of ppl here I use a separate mic for my voice BUT the mic is surprisingly good for a wireless headset. I had no idea it was that good either until a friend asked me about the quality and it dawned on me I never used it. He said (let me preface this by saying most of our friends use high quality desktop arm mics) it sounds like a cheaper desktop mic (not a bad thing at all!), but better than what we would normally expect from a headset mic. Comfort wise it also has great breathable cushions, I hated the ski goggle strap that my arctis came with. I generally get fatigued wearing any headset, between it squeezing my fatass head and the weight, can get uncomfortable, so I’m in the process of getting gaming earbuds (arctic gamebuds)
Bit of a necro but just wanted to throw in my experience from this evening. Had a pair of Razer BlackShark V2 Pro's for about 9 months, I can't fault the audio or microphone in anyway (I am not a huge audiophile mind you). What I will say is that the plastic bracket that connects the actual earphones to the headband exploded on me this evening as I took them off. They are well looked after, always on a stand - never laid flat, never wrenched off my head. Bit surprised by it - but I do have quite a large head, so maybe that was a contributing factor. This could be a one off but just letting people know in case they are looking for something long term.
Bluetooth only gaming headsets are atrocious and should be avoided at all costs. Standard Bluetooth has terrible latency, and when used with a mic very bad audio quality. Phones have much better quality because they have access to the proprietary audio codecs from Sony and Samsung, but they don’t allow these to be used on desktop PCs so you’re limited to standard Bluetooth. BT5.2 improves things quite a bit, but they’re still no where near as good as the proprietary codecs. Gaming headsets with 2.4Ghz dongles can be amazing… because they’re not limited to standard Bluetooth bandwidth and codecs and have much better latency than anything meant for use with mobile phones. One thing I’ll say about Bluetooth latency is a lot of time the latency is hidden, as most people use them for listening to music or watching videos or maybe calls. In all of these use cases the latency can often be hidden or excused away as being something other that the Bluetooth connection. For example, all mobile devices use latency estimations to display video playback so they sync up better with the audio when using Bluetooth headphones. That 1-2 second delay between you pressing play and the video starting? That’s the actual latency. … The Fractal Scape headset has gotten some good reviews. The main complaint with them seems to be that some people find them uncomfortable, especially if they wear glasses. The Razer Blackshark V2 Pro and V3 Pro are also well regarded. The V3 Pro have some of the lowest Bluetooth latency of any headset on the market, and do some magic sound processing when using Bluetooth to make the mic audio not complete crap. It‘s “only” 130ms of latency over Bluetooth. 12ms over 2.4Ghz, roughly the same as most USB headsets.
Gaming with Bluetooth only headsets makes me physically ill, similar to the feeling of getting motion sickness. And I’m not doing any kind of esports or anything, just single player or even puzzle games. I turn off the sound for Balatro when using Bluetooth! Some airlines use webpage based content streaming and just watching a movie with the high latency of Bluetooth can cause the issue for me as they don’t do any latency compensation. And it’s the latency specifically that’s the problem. Switching to wired headsets solves the issue. Watching videos with apps that have latency compensation are totally fine for me with those same Bluetooth headsets. It’s not about competitive advantage, it’s about comfort.
It's Bluetooth, that's pretty much all you need to know to decide if it's good or bad for your use. You having a mic removes the Bluetooth issue of mono audio when used with anything that needs mics to catch your voice since you'll be using an external mic, but it will still have the latency of Bluetooth which makes it not as good for gaming. The problem here now is if your PC supports BT LE audio. If it doesn't, you'll have up to 100ms latency, compared to your Blackshark's 40ms. You'll have to use it wired for gaming.
I had a blackshark and loved it until the hinges disintegrated on me. I currently have the steelseries and it's... Okay? Noise canceling is useless on it. Software is ass. Other than that it's pretty good. The hot swappable batteries is neat. If I could go back I'd probably get the Audeze Maxwell. However they're heavy and a little unwieldy (I tried my friends on).
My blackshark lasted me about a year, then the plastic that attached the cups to the band disintegrated. I moved to the Arctis nova pro's and they're pretty good. Not as comfy, mic isn't as good, swappable batteries are neat. Collapsible mic is nice. Kind of wish I went for the Maxwell but I heard those are heavy.
I play a lot of shooters and the BlackShark V2 Pro has been consistent for me since day one. The directional audio feels very clear in games that support it. I like the look too. Some headsets feel bulky but this one stays low profile which I prefer.
