Had similar issues with my warm & dark sounding Senn 660S2s with extended sub bass where the sound was underwhelming, muffled like there was a blanket over the instruments when tested with PC, phone, portable minidisc and mp3 players.I even preferred my leaner and brighter sounding cheap HD 400S over them. What is night & day sound quality wise for me was a HiFi amp connected to my PC and even better, stereo amp/CD player. You know it as soon as you hear it, its always the clarity of the cymbals that leaps out and the wider space between instruments that make them all blend well together.

I was pleasantly surprised how energetic they sound, given a choice i prefer them over my Sennheiser HD 400S which is good for its budget.

Likely the HD400S, but if it were me I'd try both Sennies and return the one I liked less. It's a question of how it fits around your specific head in the end.

I personally wouldnt recommend "gaming headphones", the only good ones I have seen esports pros stand by is the hyperx cloud 2s and that too the ones made by kingston which stopped happening a while ago as now they are made by HP. I just go for the best sennheiser or sony headphones available in my price range. Recommendation for your budget- Sennheiser HD 400S Edit- can you also tell us what type of games you play maybe I can recommend something better if you have a specific genre.

Hi, my brother recently gave me his old headphones, which are Sennheiser HD 400s. Currently, it's working fine, but it isn't as loud. If I try to push on both earcups, where the drivers sit towards my ears slightly, it not only gets slightly louder but also, it gets clearer. Since I have a slightly smaller head, is there a way or a product that I can buy and use to decrease the gap between the earcups holding the drivers of my headphones and my ears, making it louder and clearer?

Still love my Sundara’s. The HD400s were my first planar’s and really blew my mind, but the Sundara are in a different league and for 2 years were really the only headphones I really used. Enjoy!

I have Seenheiser HD400, so a very budget model. They feel very cheap, but they survived more than my gaming headset made mostly from metal. Idk how, but they are sturdy
