The ATK 240K and ATH-M40 are found in every big studio for a reason. They are very flat and have amazing clarity. That makes them perfect for studio work or say practicing bass. I have the ATK 240K and love them for practice, but if I'm listening to music I reach for my Sennheiser HD590 because they are better for listening. I don't have any experience with the Beyerdynamic 770, but you don't need to spend more than the $100-$140 the 240K or M40 cost. Heck, even the M20 are a fantastic studio headphone and you can get them for $50-$60.
So I might get downvoted here, but I have gamed with a bunch of different headphones. 660S2, 600, 590, 770, 1990, FT1, Momentum 4, etc, and I recently started gaming using the new version of the Apple AirPod Max, and it has been actually amazing. One thing forsure, is when I'm playing a competitive game and I really don't want to hear anything, I can hit a button and turn on the active noise cancellation and it shuts basically everything up around me. And with the firmware update last year, you can plug them in with USB C and get lossless low latency audio. I'm also 39 and have gone to a lot of concerts as well as worked in a mechanic shop before my current job, so maybe my ears just aren't great at picking up the differences, but I don't think it sounds worse than any other headphone I've tried, different of course, but I wouldn't say worse. I also think the ear pad material is the best I've ever felt.
I'll say that my favourite pair of headphones ever were the Sennheiser Game Ones. They were a gaming set, but I'm pretty sure they are the HD590s (plus mic). I could wear those for 10 hours a day, and did so when gaming, until the inner ear broke after many years (twas sad). HIGHLY recommend. But if you want something smaller for on the go or wireless, I've had the Bose QC35 Mk2 since 2018 and and use them every day. I can wear them about 3 hours before my ears get a little sore and sweaty (I have autism and am sensitive for them). The battery is still amazing. I replaced the cups with cheap ones after about 4 years, then those after about 3 with the brand ones, and the new ones are much nicer haha. They also sound amazing. Ultimately no headphones will be "for life" because of the nature of taking things in and out. But this is probably as close as it gets.
Sennheiser 595, don't remember the song
Another vote for HD590pro.
Sennheiser’s HD500 series models used
The build quality feels so much better than the 5 series. It's a shame the HD550 didn't inherit the metal headband. I absolutely love the comfort and isolation with these. I use the 500BAM microphone for phone calls. Pretty good value as I got them brand new for $213 + $66 for the 500BAM.
I honestly really like the stock cable on the 620S and the 5 Series headphones. It's not a fancy braided cable, but it's smooth and the kinks loosen up fairly quickly. My only issue with the 620S' build is the glued-on headband cushion. Surely they could have come up with some other solution, like the velcro on the 490 Pro.
