ive been giving friends that are over 3k elo sound info for the past decade cause their "gaming" headsets dont pick sound up. Sennheiser HD598SE is goated
Just get the nicest music headphones you can get that are wired but removable and a boom mic with a 2.5mm jack. Sennheiser 598’s and a $20 boom mic blow other “gaming” headsets out of the water.
I just checked. I bought my 598’s in 2017. I’ve used them for all sorts of stuff including gaming. They still look and sound like new. I use a cheap compression mic I got on Amazon and it sounds better than any of the headsets I’ve owned with built in mics.
I'm by no means an audiophile, I just like to waste money on the next "upgrade", be it PC hardware, or headphones. However, I recently rediscovered my HyperX Clouds (they are "gaming headphones", but phenomenal for the price back in 2016), they actually sound good. I think I paid around £60 for them 10 years ago, I wouldn't be disappointed with them if I were dropped on a desert island with a decent battery bank. I prefer them to my mid range wireless BT Sony headphones that I typically use for travelling. My first pair of real headphones after the Clouds were the HD598SR, I only bought them because of the soundstage, and I was obsessed with CS:GO at the time. I was a bit disappointed with those, but the HyperX clouds were actually decent. I just expected more from a non gaming oriented product like the 598SR. And sure, my HD600s, Sundara and now Arya Stealth shit on all of them, but I still pull them out now and again. EDIT; Just to my nostalgic brain, the Clouds were my favourite headphone of all time. Not because they were great, but because they were such a leap over my previous £10-20 actual crap budget headset I found on Amazon because my previous one died.
I use a pair of old 598SE sennheiser. Had them for over 10 years. I only had to change the cable once and the pads a few times.
Yep. It's basically an upgraded version of the Sennheiser PC Game One. A collab project between Drop and Sennheiser before Sennheiser started selling their gaming headsets under the EPOS branding, and before Sennheiser consumer products and EPOS were both sold off to separate companies, with Sennheiser consumer products being made by Sonova, an hearing aid manufacturer, and EPOS going to a company that ran it as EPOS Gaming for a while, and now only sell call center headsets. The really sad thing is Drop actually bought the PC38X design from Sonova so they could continue to manufacture it themselves without Sennheiser or Sonova's involvement... just in time for Corsair to pull the plug entirely.
I've been using Sennheiser headphones and headsets for nearly 30 years at this point. I used to use a pair of HD 598 for home and moved to the PC37X because I wanted a set with a good mic. Then upgraded to the PC38X when the PC37X's volume nob started to crackle (I'm sure it could have been fixed with some contact cleaner) which brought the audio more in line with the HD 598 again. I still use the HD 598 for console gaming when not using speakers, just with an aftermarket inline mic cable. I actually bought a second PC38X last year as I saw the writing on the wall for Drop and dread the day I'll need to find something else. My 5 year old PC38X mic still mutes fine when lifting, and I haven't had any volume knob issues. And I can't say I find it especially quiet. Hell, I keep my Windows volume at like 20% and then usually lower apps and Youtube down to 5\~10% volume on top of that, and still keep the volume knob adjusted to about half. And that's just using the front panel audio driven by a super cheap MSI motherboard. But I do have a fairly quiet room and some people like things a lot louder. But you can always get an external DAC/AMP for $30.
