hd660s. I love both its strength as well as its weaknesses, making it my favourite pair of gears
shp9500, makes me value good mids over boosted bass. Now I'm happy with both my hd660s and hd620s. I also got a few pair of iems which are great, but never actually use anymore. Still wondering if I should sell them lol
hd550 is a fairly affordable and safe pick imo. If you don't mind eq the 560s is another good set. If you love vocals get something from the hd6-line. HD660S2 can be found anywhere near $400 these days
Awesome! This just might be my Dreams setup! I have the momentum 4 right now but i would love to upgrade to the HDB630 didt you have a momentum 4 before this? And at home i am rocking the sennheiser hd660s but i was looking into the D1!
I mean, I also started with Beyers and there is nothing wrong with them. I remember hearing them for the first time thinking the same. It was a pair of DT770. Then I grabbed a pair of open backs, the HD660s and was shocked on how good open backs can sound. I side tracked for a few months with all other variants, DT880, HD600/650 etc and eventually I stepped up to LCD-X. It was like getting into the hobby once again. I had my mind blown on how good headphones can really sound. After the LCD-Xs tbh I tried various amounts of ZMFs, listened to Hifimans, Mezes in shops but ultimately I found my one and done, the Tungsten and never looked back ever since. I'm coming up to my 2yr anniversary of owning them and not buying anything else. Point is, if you like them and think they sound good and they do everything for you, don't look elsewhere. Diminishing returns hit hard after the LCD-X so take care
Keep the airpods as your easy to use Bluetooth set, and spend your money on some really good wired cans. Perhaps Sennheiser HD660s.
I use the Sennheiser HD 660s (I got mine for $250 on deep discount) with a Schiit Fulla 2 DAC/Amp. When playing games I prefer the open soundstage with open back headphones. It’s not for everyone, but I’ve been loving it for the past 5 years. It’s also for me listening and producing music as well Also, never spend $1k for just gaming. That much is if you’re a true audiophile and want to listen to uncompressed music. 300-400 total for both headphone and amp is all you need.
I use my HD660s for reference and these APMs for fun. Fantastic product.
I have both the hd660s and the ft1 pro, and I must say neither of them sounds as good as hifiman sundaras for me. Ft1 pros were less than half the price of what I got either of the other two, so I’d definitely say they punch above their weight. They also have much louder bass and sub-bass than either.
Ahh my two favourites are definitely grado sr60x and hifiman sundaras. Idk why but that treble in the grados is just so nice for so much of my music, and I really enjoy the super light on-ear feel. Then the sundaras are absolutely my most used headphones, by far. They are always at my desk and these days even next to my bed. If I’m being honest my sundaras don’t do anything that is particularly mind-blowing but I just love the sound so much. The build quality is terrible and the cable they came with got swapped out immediately alongside the pads, but the sound is just right. Honorable mentions go to kph40s which are the single comfiest headphones ever, I usually forget in even wearing them and they sound so ridiculously good for 30$ headphones. Then to hd660s which I keep at my desk as well, and since they are so easy to drive compared to hd600 and to my sundaras, I even used them out of my phone for years.
It's really hard to find a quality open back, wireless over ear headphone in my experience. I have a pair of HD 660S's which are amazing but they're wired. I'm going to get hate for this but I just use my latest gen airpods and they work great. I don't play hell let loose but I play Halo and my airpods are pretty good at picking up footsteps.
Planars are great. But if gaming is your main criteria, stick with dynamic drivers. Beyerdynamic 9 series (900 pro X, 990 pro, 1990 pro) Sennheiser 600 series ( hd600, 650, 660, 660s, 660s2, and including the 490pro) and 500 series ( hd560s is one of the most recommended options for gaming around here), Some of the audio technica ath-ad models. Specifically for competitive fps games, these are pretty much the best options out there at reasonable prices. Adding an amp like the Fiio k5 you mentioned is also a good idea with most of these. I personally like Sennheiser more because I listen to more music than I play video games, but I occasionally get called a cheater in r6 with my old hd600 + Fiio k11. If you don’t care about music or other media, the beyers should technically be even better.

Honestly using a pair of good Bluetooth headphones with ldac will sound great but wired is always better unless you use aptx lossless what's pretty dam close but you can get some very nice Bluetooth dac amps like the fiio btr5 or btr 15 fiio also make great iems and some very good headphones Genuinely you can get nice USB c dacs For your phone some by hidiz or hibby or fiio as the btr 15 and 5 both can be used as a USB dac and Bluetooth Alot of price ranges you can get a pretty good USB c dac for 100 to 200 pound and great quality earphones or headphones for around 150 to 400 If you want a more dedicated setup you could go for a dap a Digital Audio Player there are a many good ones from hibby and fiio with a price range from 500 to 1000 thses players run android but have powerful headphone amps and high quality dacs in with the ability to expand storage to 1000s of gbs 1tb personally I use the hibby HiBy R6III what's currently. On sale for 350 pound I use a plethora. Of headphones and iems from the HD 660s from Sennheiser to the hd 620s 558s 559 to fiio iems and Cambridge audio Bluetooth iems I'd be happy to help you out with any questions you have my my apologies for my terrible grammar I'm legally blind so it's pretty hard to see on a phone
