A pair of Sennheiser HD650's were my first introduction to real audiophile headphones. The best headphones I had prior to them were V-moda and Beats. I was impressed by the detail, but especially how guitars and female voices sounded. I learned that I needed an amp to get the most out of them, as well as a dac. So I did some research and came across JDS Labs Element Dac/Amp. At this point I got the bug and wanted to see if pricier headphones were better. Next came the Audeze LCDX. I was very disappointed on my initial listen. Then I downloaded free eq software and loaded up settings from a guy on a headphones forum and WOW! Nothing I had ever heard before had the clarity, detail, and bass these have. At this point I began to learn and understand that headphones have personality and you need to pick ones suited to what you like - both interms of how you like music to sound, and what you listen to. I have to cut this post short, but higher end Headphones ARE objectively better if you pick ones that have the type of sound you like. There are plenty of experienced reviewers who can describe the characteristics of headphones to help find what you want. In the case of the HD650 vs the LCDX - the LCDX does everything the Hd650 does, only better. Better base. Better clarity. Better detail. Better imaging, deeper and wider Soundstage etc. I finally settled on my LCDX and Hifiman HE1000 Stealth as my two primary headphones, with my HD650 as backup for them. You better believe that if I had the money there are a handful of headphones I would like to buy in the + $2000-5000 range. Same goes for amps and days. I think it's best to start cheaper but good quality, and learn how you like music to sound, and then make educated upgrades. As this process repeats you gain a better understanding of you and headphones.

LCD X because I sold/gifted everything else. (I do really like it at least.)

LCD-x bass is so good, it’s hard to believe that its an open back.

Because bass has a quality factor? Throw the same bass shelf on the LCD-X 2021 and the 6XX (hell even the 800S if you want similar price points) and tell me that’s the same experience It isn’t, not even remotely close. I suppose someone could be pedantic and say planar/dynamic are different, but eh, in the context of your comment I think it holds

Yeah I did post some planars. They are big and are used by audio engineers who need the BEST sound.  There is more to headphones than size for most people. They need to wear them, carry them, drive them.  When sound is all that matters they end up big, because bigger ones sound better.

Sennheiser Momentum 4. I use them the most and they are the most versatile. Even though I also love my LCD X (too heavy though and not useful when others are around) and my Beyerdynamic DT 770 pro (they're great but they're wired so can't easily take them out with me unlike the M4).

I got them and the bass is nice with EQ and a decent AMP DAC device! I'm combining them with the Fiio K9 non pro and it's bringing the best out of them. The bass can be really strong if you EQ that shit 10-12 DB lol, but of course I wouldn't recommend that long term.

I'm loving the LCD X. At first I was dumbfounded at first thinking I overpaid a lot and they sound exactly like the Beyerdynamic DT 770 pro I also have. But after 1-3 weeks of brain burn-in, you somehow get used to them and you start noticing why they're so popular and so great. If you love headphones that are more analytical and in which you can clear very sharp and clear the voices, instruments, including the sound the piano keys make when being played if you listen to piano solos, I definitely recommend them. The only thing I found that sucks: the original earpads sell for 100€, what the hell... Also pairing my LCD X with the Fiio K9 non pro (460$ new). A good AMP DAC does wonders indeed at least to a certain point. I haven't had any Meze yet but I've read they're really comfortable and more musical. The exterior design seems also more premium on them than on the Audeze if you care a lot about that. It's a small company from Romania, but everyone seems happy with them. I've read you can also at home repair them very easily in case anything breaks which is awesome! If you also sometime want a wireless ANC Sennheiser Momentum 4 are really fun and have an app with which you can EQ them from your phone really fast and convenient!

Hey wait a minute, I've got an Empyrean II and HE1000 too! No focal though, just a humble LCD-X. Such a well rounded collection! I support this amazing collection

Right now, I'm using Meze Empyrean IIs for 2022 COD MWII. Depending on the month and mood, I may be using my HE1000, LCD-X, Moondrop Dusk, or Letshuoer Z12. I have specific EQ settings for all of them so that I can boost my ability to hear footsteps. In the past, I used a set of Meze Liric 1s and they were my favorite FPS headphone. With my EQ, the sound stage would close in and texture would disappear (idk why it happens on the Liric bc it never happens on my other headphones). This made footsteps really really easy to find. I want another pair in my life but I can't justify having a headphone just for fps gaming atm. Planning to play BF6 in the future. The audio sounds really good from all the streams I've seen.
