I had an XB900n, heavy daily use. Lasted 3.5 years until I stupidly decided to sit in the bath with them on. Pads started to fall apart another half year after that. Considering that model was below the xm4, I expect the 4s to last the same or even longer
I've been using Sony WH-XB900N for like 6 years now and they did great. But now that I am about to finish university and get a job, I want to buy new ones that can be much pricier. While I generally listen to all kinds of music, my main taste evolves around EDM and heavy baselines. A friend of mine, who also used the WH-XB900N for a couple of years and has a similar music taste, recently bought HIFIMAN Edition XV. He said that while he really appreciated the improved sound quality and clearness, they lack the power and bass he was hoping for and got used to with the Sony headphones. He also bought an amp, hoping that would fix the problem, but it didn't. I guess open back headphones generally have a harder time producing bass, but what exactly is the best option then? I don't really care about any features like NC or similar. I just want the best sound quality that I can get while still getting lots of bass. Do you have any recommendations?
I have Sony WH-XB900N headphones. I've been using them for years and they work great. You can use them by Bluetooth or audio cable. Very comfortable, great sound quality and noise cancelling.
The XB900N is quite good too, similar sound and ANC, plus it's really cheap to buy used.
I like my XM4s a lot. After a good EQ they're tough to beat. I had the XB900Ns before, they had too much bass and not enough for anything else. Sounded good at the time but when I moved up to better sets, I couldn't go back.
I've got the Sony WH-XB900N and they're OK in terms of noise cancellation. The newer ones might be better. I wouldn't say they're particularly great at lower volumes but from about mid-range you stop noticing most background noises. I wear them walking the dog without even having music on because they give me plausible denaibility for not speaking to people if they shout hello. It fills me with dread if I can't find them.
