My XM4s are probably my last pair of Sonys. I upgraded to the Anker Soundcore Space one pro. In Wirecutter testing fell in between the XM5 and XM6 in noice cancelling. If I had to have the state of the art, I would have gotten the XM6, but I'm very happy to get something 90% as good for 30% of the price.

I take six noisy buses a day wearing one of my Soundcore noise canceling over-the-ear headset. It makes a world of difference, especially when paired with an audiobook. It's a physical relief when I put them on. 🙃 The sound quality on any of their headsets are remarkable and I can (literally) wear them for hours with no discomfort. (I like the Space One Pro because the ear cups fold down to make it easier to carry in my bag. They're around $200. I also like the Q30 model, which are usually on sale for around $60 on Amazon.)

Sony Ult headphones seemed good when I was able to try those. This is an extra bass model. The Souncore Space 1 seems solid after a year. Microphone can pick up some background, but it blocks out about half of the background noise. They are comfortable for me. It has decent sound if you don't mind a bass centered sound. I have heard some good stuff about JBL Live 770nc, but I did not get a chance to try the microphone or anc, but I have heard microphone is good unless wind noise is an issue.

I picked up the Soundcore Space 1. It seemed pretty solid. The anc is pretty good at the 100 usd mark.. With music on low it blocks about 70% of machine noises and 50% of voices. It has a bass centric sound, but it eqs well. The Soundcore Space 1 Pro has an excellent ANC, but it does have a really strong bass tuning. The Sony Ult Wear is Sony's extra bass headphones, but it is not quite as strong on the bass as the Space 1 Pro. It does seem comfortable with very good ANC. I did see the Bose Quietcomfort went on sale today. It seems like a well made headphone. Bose gives me more cabin pressure in my ears than Sony or Soundcore. So, if you can try it at Best Buy or elsewhere it does help. I did try the JBl Live 770 nc at Best Buy. It was really comfortable with good sound quality. The ANC is not as good as Sony or Bose, but it seems to be good from reading reviews. The demo model did not seem to allow you to test the ANC or at least I could not figure how to activate it.

What about getting this one only for gym use? Currently I have a Anker Soundcore Space pro , but always fall off my head while I’m working out, and I want to get a cheap alternative bc I’m not gonna spend 200 in a headphones I get broken for condensation.

Quality and shitty battery lifespan. I daily use a KZ Terminator and it sounds pretty good and is enough for me. I also bought a Soundcore Space one pro to use at home and also to try something "different" from my KZ.

Space one pro from Soundcore are big head approved (I have a gigantic skull too). They also sound pretty good and fit your budget. The hinges are aluminum too so they’re gonna be strong and you can use them wireless or wired.

The soundcore space one pro should meet all your requirements. They’re big, cushy, in your budget, closed back with good anc/transparency, and have both wired and wireless capabilities. The sound is solid and they have an 8 band graphic eq so you can tune them however you want them to sound.

If you can stomach going above your budget, the soundcore space one pro have everything you’re after. Great ANC, a super cool folding mechanism that makes them more portable than any headphones I’ve seen, 8 band graphic eq to get the sound you want, super comfy padding, huge battery life. Though I will say it’s impossible to get ANC to block 100% of everything, even the world’s best ANC isn’t gonna do that. But the space one pro perform very good for their price. They retail at 199 USD but you can find them on sale sometimes. It’s worth the investment imo

I think they upped their build quality on the space one pro. It’s the first time I’ve seen them use aluminum in the hinges. Yes as a brand they’re mediocre but they weren’t trying to compete with Sony or Bose. You could say the same thing about skullcandy. Or beats. I think soundcore is solid for their price point, and the average person isn’t an audiophile or has half a grand to spend on top tier ANC headphones

You’re welcome, Best Buy has them on display if you wanna feel them or try them on. They’re the first soundcore product I’ve thought was built solid and the sound demo gives you a good idea of the quality. They have an 8 band graphic eq if you need it too

Except that the ones below that don’t cancel noise as well. The Q45 are the only other decent one and those need a sale to be under 100. And don’t get me started on how the regular space one like to snap at the hinge. Headphones are always something worth saving up for if you have a specific need. And 50ish dollars over budget doesn’t take long to save up.

These are underrated. People gawk at the lack of ear detection or the tuning that they didn’t eq, but these headphones are great.

Xm4 not worth it in 2025. New headphones by smaller companies sound better now for less money. Check out Soundcore space pro and Baseus Inspire xh1.
