Need to retract my statement about the turtle beach atlas air. Turns out I had "legacy" mode on and the second I turned that off they actually sounded amazing. These are the headphones I was looking for.

I have the Turtlebeach Atlas Air, which has both bluetooth and 2.4 ghz wifi connection. The problem with a lot of headsets using bluetooth only is the terrible game sound because windows wants to do handfree mode. But with the atlas air wifi 2.4 Ghz connection, the sound is awesome whether using the mic or not. They sound really good.

Am I the only one who struggles to tell the difference in quality while gaming with a pair of true audiophile headphones vs a gaming headset? For reference, I’m using the Dt 1990 pro mkii vs the turtle beach atlas air and comparing the two. Maybe I’m still just getting used to the nicer headphones and their unique tuning, but I don’t notice this “blown away” difference in sound quality like everyone says they do. Since I am mostly gaming, maybe I’ve just gotten used to the tuning of most “gaming” headsets and will come to appreciate the others with time. Any thoughts or opinions welcome!

I’ve seen more recently that closed backs can be better for peak competitive gaming for that reason. A wider soundstage may make you miss things in the medium to far distance. I really like the turtle beach atlas air at first, but you do get some of the worst of both worlds. The wide sound stage of open back(which could help or not) and the lesser audio quality of wireless/gaming products

It was the atlas air, the $180 model that came out before but yeah still a huge price gap. I’ve noticed a huge difference in music, just not games so far. But I’m gonna invest in an amp and test their potential

I’d love to try a pair of pc38x but hard to justify when I have the two headphones I’ve got. If I could go back I’d get them over the atlas air for sure

**EPOS/SENNHEISER Game One** is supposed to be a pretty good wired headset. Although it's an older model, so the availability might be limited I guess. According to the rewies (e.g. at rtings) the sound quality is about the same (or even a bit better) than for a Turtle Beach Atlas Air (that I bought at the end). I'm pretty pleased with the sound quality of my Atlas Air, but only recommended if you are looking for wireless headphones, as the software/firmware suck big time. Otherwise, some dedicated audiophile headphones might give even better sound quality. But due to my elephant ears, I find most of the regular headphones up to this price range somewhat uncomfortable, as the ear pads are usually smaller than for a gaming headset. (Not designed to wear all day long, I guess.)

Tried some Atlas Airs for a while last week and got to say they are perfectly fine, sound volume wise completely on par with other models listed in this thread. Possibly firmware fixed it.

$100 won't get you anywhere near audiophile quality headset, not even close. You might be able to find a pair of turtle beach atlas headphones for $130-140 on sale, if you're OK with open back that's the best you'll probably find wireless. Wired would probably be a better choice at your price point.
