I think Golden sound said he loves the atrium, but looking at where it's ranked is odd. Maybe something is off about my ears but most of the headphones they like I just couldn't get into.
Are we the same person? Although I did like the utopia. I'm still trying to figure out my headphone collection as well but I'm keen on checking out the bokeh closed vs the Atrium closed. I also like the grado S950 which I'm not sure they tried yet.
I loved my open backs such as SJY Audio Horizon and Fostex TH909, even Verum One mk2. That was until I got the ZMF Atrium Closed and now I am in love with closed backs. I am itching to try the DCA Aeon Noire X and Audeze LCD-XC.
ZMF Atrium Closed. Every time.
Atrium Closed with Auteur Suede pads is my reference and most listened to headphone of all-time.
ZMF Atrium Closed. All the others are complementary pairs and flavors.
Got the Atrium Closed from ZMF, it's truly beautiful. If I had to buy it again... I wouldn't, first because it cost me an arm (from France...) and also because I was promised something that wasn't true. Very heavy (go the bbb strap and magnesium band) and upper mids and treble aren't what I'm looking for. I was promised "better upper mids and treble than the HD6XX/HD600" Far from the truth I then bought their dampening system (titan mesh + suede pads), it helped but still wasn't it. I never tried DCA, I'm gonna order the Aeon noire X and checl what it is about.
I have the atrium closed (suede pad + titan mesh) with element 4 How would you compare them ?
I might surprise you, I don't like the treble in my Atrium closed I find them too sharp sometimes almost sibilent I might even surprise you more, I like the treble on the HD6XX better than on the atrium closed
Got the Atrium Closed, I don't like vocals, upper mids and treble on those. I found them even sibilent at times. Already had titan mesh installed and suede pad. I'm looking to a closed back with the veil of sennheiser, meaning crystal clear smooth upper mids and treble. Which one would you recommend ?
I am very disappointed with my atrium closed. I’m they sound harsh on the upper mids and treble. Sibilent on some tracks, did you switch for that reason ? Are treble and mids and upper mids cleaner on the E3?
Just so we are talking about the same thing, did you also have those sibilent, harsh, upper mids and treble ? Around 2 to 4k ? There are some music I simply cannot listen with the atrium closed even with titan mesh and suede pads. How would you compare the E3 with the HD6xx and the treble ? I want a high end headphones that is relaxed , that has very good mids and high and non fatiguing With what everyone is saying on this post , it seems the E3 might suits me but before buying the atrium it was the same thing. I’m trying to avoid the same mistake in the event I cannot have a listen to the E3
I have the atrium closed I'm happy with them but I realized this isn't my endgame. They are too heavy in the long run. They are too agressive in the highs. Some genres i cannot even listen to. I swapped pads and added the titan mesh, wasn't enough. For the rest they are perfect. The bass are the best I've heard.
That sounds more along the lines of you haven't found the *right* headphone yet. Did you get a chance to audition/try out the lcd-5 before purchase? It takes a while, requiring listening to many many different headphones and gear to see what *exactly* matches up to your preferences. Took me 5 years of just listening and owning different headphones to finally settle on the atrium closed+tubes as my favorite headphone setup in the world after listening/owning many many different headphones regardless of price.
That's because the feliks echo is an otl tube amp. Otl(output transformer-less) tube amps do NOT pair with planars well at all due to the amp's inherent high output impedance in contrast with the lcd-5's 14ohms, and as you heard they make planars sound loose and uncontrolled (flabby). They only work with mid/high impedance dynamic drivers in general. You need otc (output transformer coupled) or hybrid tube amps to drive planars like the cayin ha3a, icon hp-8, or xduoo ta-20+.
The Atrium Open rolls off in the sub-bass without EQ, but the Atrium Closed will bring that biodyna subbass slam and rumble stock.
3-5 feels right. An open back, a closed back, and an IEM perhaps. For me: - Daily driver open back (HD800S) - Warm open back for relaxing (ZMF Atrium) - IEMs - commuting and isolation in the warmer months (U4S) - Daily driver closed back, I've yet to find something for this Collecting based on driver tech doesn't work for me. I've never heard a planar I got along with, unfortunately. Even most closed-backs and sealed IEMs give me fatigue.
Unfortunately didnt like them! the build quality is exceptional but the sound is very inoffensive and tame, definitely lacks trebble and bass slam, its a much more smooth headphone for like, Jazz or Bluess, but its far from exciting.
