I have this. It’s great for the price. Isn’t great in full daylight. It would need a separate sound system in a big room.
For $800 I'd go with a nebula 4k SE, it's on sale refurbished from eBay with warranty. I know it's overkill for you but why not get 4k instead of 1080p when you have a budget of $800? This is a phenomenal projector for the price of $599,(MSRP $1300). 4k, dolby vision and HDR, great gaming performance. Honestly surprised no one is jumping on this deal. It's going to be bright enough for your screen since its not too big. I acquired a Nebula Cosmos SE 4K for our family room. I alternate watching programs on the Nebula with a Samsung 50” LED TV. The Nebula is perfect for us. Easy to set up and powerful enough for 120" viewing. I usually set it at around 70" -100" max. size on the wall. Picture quality is stellar and adjustable. It has built-in Dolby Vision. Audio can be output to HDMI-ARC, Bluetooth speakers, AUX or you can use the built-in speakers. I have several internal apps - Netflix, YouTube, Amazon to name a few. I connect DirecTV from HDMI. It runs natively on Google TV with free programming with ads. The auto focus and auto formatting, keystoning works perfectly. Especially like watching sports, films and series on this projector. The World Series looked amazing. Also you can mirror image from your phone or laptop depending on your wireless streaming strength. So far it's a winner.
I use the nebula cosmos 4k SE by Anker. Very good laser projector and good design. It's good even in decent amount of light, and often you can get it on sale close to $1000. You can even subscribe to it if you wanted to try it too for a month.
I did ton of research. Don't want to go through it all but everything screamed go laser. The Hisense C1 was recommended a bunch. They make a c2 and I think I remember seeing C3 just released. After all was said and done, with a throw distance similar to yours, I bought the Nebula Cosmos 4k SE when it was on sale for $1000 on black Friday. It's actually a hybrid laser/led. I love it. The other finalist was the XGIMI Horizon Pro 4K (LED tech). Brighter specs, but more expensive and the Nebula got better YouTube reviews. I didn't need the extra brightness as I was not dealing with ambient light. Use it in a dedicated 150" theater with lights off for movies, shows, live sports, and gaming. 7.1.4 Dolby vision sound. https://preview.redd.it/drvby6qzmnfe1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c2262447ab22722550ad13829c74289f8c679994
My Nebula Cosmos 4k SE does well for 150" and according to spec can do 200". I put it on a tripod to the right of my theater seats. About 13 feet from the screen. Got it for $1000 on Black Friday.
I was between this Xgimi and Nebula Cosmos 4k SE. I chose the Nebula and love it. $1000.00. I'm sure the Xgimi is great too. \[They are not Native 4k\] https://preview.redd.it/064a0imi67ne1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b8d72432680b0d741c31703bd49d02e3813db6de
I meant to say they are both not Native 4k. I edited my post. I got an Elite Screen Spectrum 150" motorized. New on FB marketplace for $300. It was very hard to transport. I wouldn't do it again. I upgraded as well. Did a boat load of research to get to Xgimi pro 4k OR the Nebula. I feel like any more money just gets me the last 1% of quality, but I'm sure for others it's worth it.
Lol. Black Friday for me too. Normally $1300. Got it for $1000.
I personally live in the $1000 ish comfort zone. Everyone has diff budget. I look at at value for $$$ and I do have certain standards. I just moved, so I built a new HT. I had an old school, long throw, 1080p Benq. After researching decided to upgrade to 4k laser. Ended up with Nebula Cosmos 4k SE. Not true 4k, but I Love it and I think it gets me 95% of the way to the best picture. https://preview.redd.it/9zdg2wt8gvme1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cef32813d9a29f1433764b95165a127b6431dadc
Nebula cosmos 4k se works for me
I feel like the $1100 I paid for the Nebula 4K SE was worth it. I believe it fits your criteria.
I’m no pro but I’ve been here on the forums for a little when I was researching and I would say consensus here would probably say yes it’s worth getting a screen if you’re considering upgrading to a decent setup. This is all relative and dependent though. If you were going to spend $1000-$3000 on a good 4k projector that you can game well on, I’d say you should probably support your investment and bring it to its potential. If you’re spending $1000 or less and you are likely using a lot of keystone and just don’t want a screen, then I’d say just do what works for you, your needs, and budget. If you use a lot of keystone and aren’t setup to reduce it or not use it at all then you’re going to lose image quality and add input lag. That’s not a huge deal if you understand that and buy into an upgrade with those expectations. With lighter play on the switch the input lag added will probably be mostly acceptable. It really depends on what you want and what you need and then how much you’re willing to spend. You could spend $3k on a projector to use on a multicolor and textured wall at a big angle using a lot of keystone and you know, that’s fine and up to you if the budget is not a big deal. If you want the best experience possible on a $1500 budget then you’ll get the best results with a dedicated screen or painted wall area and a setup that removes use of keystone. I don’t know what you’re budget is and again I have limited experience here but I have used the Nebula 4K SE and would say for the price it’s pretty good for 4k and adequate for noncompetitive gaming. I started with the epson ef12 which was perfect for a small bedroom projector and limited space. I then got the Nebula for the living room and some gaming and it’s been pretty good. My latest was recently getting the Hisense C2 Ultra for everything and while the black levels will bother some for the price, it’s been an impressive projector for me. In the end it’s about what you want, what you need, what you can sacrifice, and having your expectations in check for what you’re getting and can afford.
Hi everyone, I’m currently using a 2021 Nebula Cosmos 4K projector with a Sonos Arc + Era 300s + Sub speakers setup, and I’m looking to upgrade. I’d really appreciate any recommendations or advice. *Why I’m upgrading:* * **Brightness issues**: The current projector (DLP, 1500 ANSI lumens) struggles in ambient light — I can’t fully darken the room, so daytime viewing is almost impossible. * **Washed-out blacks**: Blacks appear gray, and the contrast isn’t satisfying for movie watching. * **No eARC:** There’s no HDMI eARC port, so I’ve had to use an Arcana box to split the signal between the projector, Sonos, and Apple TV, which is a bit clunky. * **Not true 4K**: The projector only upscales to 4K — it’s not native. Although it works quite well, I’ve noticed some areas of the screen have blurred or soft details. *What I’m looking for:* * Good 4K image quality (**native 4K**, not just upscaling) * **eARC support** (ideally one or two HDMI ports with it) * **Ceiling mountable** (will be fixed once installed — not moving it around) * **Auto-focus & auto-keystone** correction (since the projector will be slightly off-center and ceiling mounted) * **Great brightness & contrast** for a room that can’t get completely dark Notes: * Throw distance is \~4 meters (\~13 feet) to a \~100” screen * I mainly use it to watch movies, with occasional gaming on PS5 * Not interested in specific built-in smart platforms — I’ll use an Apple TV 4K * I don’t need internal speakers as I will use the Sonos system or optical/analog outputs, etc. * **Budget** ideally under £1,000/2,000 * I’ve seen suggestions like the JVC DLA-NP5BE and Epson EH-LS12000B, but those are outside my budget. I’ve looked into the Samsung The Premiere LSP9T (Triple Laser UST) and can get a good discount on it, but I’m open to either ultra short throw or traditional long throw, as long as it fits my setup. UST would require moving my Sonos Arc Ultra, which I’d prefer not to do unless the image quality is significantly better. Any projector recommendations that would suit my needs? Either ceiling-mounted or UST if it’s worth the compromise. Thanks so much in advance for the help!
I’ve had the Cosmos 4K for a couple years now and it’s still a beast besides the outdated software (I use an AppleTV anyway).
Solid. I take it out on the back porch during football season, shooting on a white screen. I can easily start a kids movie night well before sunset. I had it indoors for a time, shooting on a slightly gray wall and it held up pretty well with lamps on and such.
I use the Nebula Cosmos 4K. It's got great picture, but not super super bright.
