Good to see you speak from no experience for mural use. The two options suggested are ok choice for messy mural work. And the nebula 4k is good for large outdoors murals. Other mods are attaching a lens Other good choice is projector with zoom len From using the H1 in confined space, it does work for stenciling on a beer budget and broke college art student. Not everyone can afford 650-1200 Nebula 4k 01001001
I have over 20 years in the art field, art school trained doing mixed media including large murals and building projection. Most artists modified equipment and think of a creative solution all the time on worksites. This includes chaining cheap H1 projector to hit wide mural. Velcro lens to projector or using analog projectors, wallpaper stencil. Think ! quick and dirty to get the job done in a messy workflow But have very limited budget. OP brought a RCA projector on Amazon. And runs a business. So she multiple projector in case several units get damaged. Lamp, LED, DLP are good choice to choose from There have been countless times a lamp projector dies and we scramble for a replacement. LED and DLP are good since some worksite have no AC. Think a home mural on pre built with no electricity. So Battery or Gas Gen powered. To OP , buy several art grade projectors to avoid any down time, zoom lens if you afford it, analog buttons and focus ring when lose the remote and the phone app crashes. The Artograph Super Prism is a professional-grade opaque projector featuring a 3-element, color-correcting Super Lens that allows for both reduction (down to 80%) and enlargement (up to 20x). It uses a traditional manual lens barrel that you slide or rotate for sharp focus. For a digital option, the Artograph Flare 450 includes a manual focus wheel on the unit and a touchpad with physical buttons on top. It is "sealed" in a compact, portable frame that protects the LED internals. The Kopykake 300XK is highly popular for its sturdy steel cabinet (sealed design) and a lens system that allows you to enlarge images up to 300% vertically or 2500% horizontally by removing the head. It uses a physical manual focus adjustment on the lens.
I have this. It’s great for the price. Isn’t great in full daylight. It would need a separate sound system in a big room.
I just bought the nebula cosmos 4k se off eBay for $650. It's refurbished, but it looks amazing and the input lag is just like the tv I played on, so I'm super happy with it. Comes with a 2 year warranty and everything. Look into eBay refurbished projectors and I'm sure you'll find one that suits you and isn't out of budget.
For $800 I'd go with a nebula 4k SE, it's on sale refurbished from eBay with warranty. I know it's overkill for you but why not get 4k instead of 1080p when you have a budget of $800? This is a phenomenal projector for the price of $599,(MSRP $1300). 4k, dolby vision and HDR, great gaming performance. Honestly surprised no one is jumping on this deal. It's going to be bright enough for your screen since its not too big. I acquired a Nebula Cosmos SE 4K for our family room. I alternate watching programs on the Nebula with a Samsung 50” LED TV. The Nebula is perfect for us. Easy to set up and powerful enough for 120" viewing. I usually set it at around 70" -100" max. size on the wall. Picture quality is stellar and adjustable. It has built-in Dolby Vision. Audio can be output to HDMI-ARC, Bluetooth speakers, AUX or you can use the built-in speakers. I have several internal apps - Netflix, YouTube, Amazon to name a few. I connect DirecTV from HDMI. It runs natively on Google TV with free programming with ads. The auto focus and auto formatting, keystoning works perfectly. Especially like watching sports, films and series on this projector. The World Series looked amazing. Also you can mirror image from your phone or laptop depending on your wireless streaming strength. So far it's a winner.
ill 2nd this have a cosmos 4k se mounted on the ceiling suprisingly really good sound
I love my Cosmos SE. I have a WISA Platin 5.1.2 wireless system. And a 150" screen. F1 and Tron Ares were both fantastic!
Get a Nebula. I have Cosmos 4k SE and love it. Goes on sale sometimes for close to what your looking to pay. I don't use the built in speaker, but I've heard it and it's strong, if you don't want full surround. Or just get a cheaper Nebula model, it'll be good. I'm on a Nebula reddit and don't see many complaints. Mine is on a tripod to the right of my seats and projects to 150" Elite screen. Oh, and that too. The screen matters. https://preview.redd.it/l9j7m35t4qng1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1369bc38297e18d7f0b0c729dc1afbf1ebac1af5
I’m no pro but I’ve been here on the forums for a little when I was researching and I would say consensus here would probably say yes it’s worth getting a screen if you’re considering upgrading to a decent setup. This is all relative and dependent though. If you were going to spend $1000-$3000 on a good 4k projector that you can game well on, I’d say you should probably support your investment and bring it to its potential. If you’re spending $1000 or less and you are likely using a lot of keystone and just don’t want a screen, then I’d say just do what works for you, your needs, and budget. If you use a lot of keystone and aren’t setup to reduce it or not use it at all then you’re going to lose image quality and add input lag. That’s not a huge deal if you understand that and buy into an upgrade with those expectations. With lighter play on the switch the input lag added will probably be mostly acceptable. It really depends on what you want and what you need and then how much you’re willing to spend. You could spend $3k on a projector to use on a multicolor and textured wall at a big angle using a lot of keystone and you know, that’s fine and up to you if the budget is not a big deal. If you want the best experience possible on a $1500 budget then you’ll get the best results with a dedicated screen or painted wall area and a setup that removes use of keystone. I don’t know what you’re budget is and again I have limited experience here but I have used the Nebula 4K SE and would say for the price it’s pretty good for 4k and adequate for noncompetitive gaming. I started with the epson ef12 which was perfect for a small bedroom projector and limited space. I then got the Nebula for the living room and some gaming and it’s been pretty good. My latest was recently getting the Hisense C2 Ultra for everything and while the black levels will bother some for the price, it’s been an impressive projector for me. In the end it’s about what you want, what you need, what you can sacrifice, and having your expectations in check for what you’re getting and can afford.
