They are excellent, there is no real competition in terms of quality/price ratio except maybe the Nebula X1. However they are not perfect: they’re subject to speckle and RBE. You’ll need a matte white screen for the speckle. If you want to avoid RBE there is only Epson, all DLP projectors have it.
The main limiting factor in your case is your throw ratio. You need a traditional projector, but apart from the monsters (JVC and large Epson), you'll have to go to Benq or to the EH-TW7100 but honestly you won't improve your contrast much. The new Nebula X1 is really excellent, with 5000:1 native contrast, auto keystone, etc but the throw-ratio is shorter. If you can accomodate to this, that would be my recommendation. I think there is a promo right now on Amazon.
If audio is important to you, then that's a solid choice. Not sure anyone else has really done something so similar. You may want to look into WiSA. WiSA is a 'standard' for high fidelity wireless audio. You can get full surround sound using any combination of WiSA source combined with any WiSA speakers. [https://www.wisatechnologies.com/brands](https://www.wisatechnologies.com/brands) You don't really get away from some wires if you are using a projector like the X1. But, it's a really solid solution. It's just unique, which means you don't have almost any options beyond it for that level of quality. There are WiSA transmitters which can send surround sound to any active speakers. Sonos, or anything of your choice. Not sure if you can leave speakers around at all or not though. I mean, good speakers ARE good speakers. So, not sure of your setup, but wanted to give you an option which can confuse you even more. :-) [https://www.wisatechnologies.com/soundsend](https://www.wisatechnologies.com/soundsend)
Most laser models have the same, or better RBE compared to lamp based DLP models. That's been pretty much the standard call out from reviewers who are RBE sensitive. I am RBE sensitive and will say that has been the case for me as well. I still see spots of it, but not as much as 2x color wheel DLP and about the same as 4x/5x color wheels.
That's not at all what he is looking at. The Nebula projectors have been around for a while. Anker used to be their parent company, but Soundcore now owns them and has partnered with them for better audio. It's very well reviewed.
got mine from kickstarter, the sound is pretty dope for indoors, gives that 3d audio feel without subs cluttering the space. lumens are ok for evening watches, mine handles backyard projections fine post-sunset. weight sucks but once its set up u forget about it imo.
Imo nebula x1, or something else with iris as it's free 2x contrast booster.
To add on for OP, the hook up video is great however do note his side by side comparison and conclusion is skewed for americans who don't consume foreign contents with subtitles. So the likes of Valerion does well in those tests but the result will be different if you use subtitles. OP can consider the new xgimi 20 series or nebula x1 as imo both are better than the pro2. Also, tri lasers such as Valerion and xgimi has rbe, speckles issue that OP should take note.
X1 is sharper than valerion. Wdym it's pq is poor? Do you mean poor pq because some ppl say in the dark scenes that it look dim? That's because the comparison is without subtitles. X1 dynamic contrast and gamma adjustment is definitely not that good as their processor is the slower one.
Ignore those deluded Valerion fans. Tbf if you only consume non subtitle dark content then maybe Valerion ebl will be the better choice for you. Assuming you're not sensitive to rbe, under $3k the best is dangbei s7 ultra max, then it's a tossed up between xgimi horizon 20 max and nebula x1. For ust, nexigo ap mk2 is better than valerion and has no rbe / speckle issue too.
Imo x1 with iris will make a difference, that's like free 2x native contrast booster.
Cinema like experience also means dark cave. If you're not willing to turn your rooms to a cave then better option is ust + alr. However, if you're ok with casual usage the x1 pro imo is fine. You can move around the house and just point it to a random wall to use. Although for tri laser like x1, you should check your sensitivity to rbe.
Nahh nebula x1 has better native and dynamic contrast. Valerion advantage is dimming.
You can consider nebula x1 and valerion max (if you can get it for less than $3k) as they have iris. Lasers get dim over time too. Imo best is for you to sample or demo them as tri lasers have issues such as rbe and speckle which bother some people. If you're sensitive to rbe then you will have to consider alpd laser projector or 3lcd like epsons.
Imo you should consider the ones with iris, it trades brightness that you don't need for 2-3x higher native contrast. Can check out the likes of nebula x1.
Their retail price is definitely not value to performance. The likes of nebula x1 and dangbei s7 are all significantly cheaper.
Side by side comparison without subtitles sure but the subtitle will disable its dimming and their iris reduces ansi contrast too. Imo dangbei s7 is better and significantly cheaper. Nebula x1 is sharper and higher native contrast too.
Fyi to others, do note that this youtuber / reviewer testing and ranking is favorable to dynamic contrast as he doesn't use subtitles. Tbf it's inherent issue with dynamic contrast dimming. Not an issue for those in US who only consume English contents but to everyone else who use subtitles then the result will be different.
Nebula x1, it's even better than valerion flagship that cost 2x more as it has dynamic iris. Do check your sensitivity to rbe though.
Honestly, don't overthink it. DVD players aren't really a thing in projectors anymore. Just grab any cheap DVD player from Argos or Amazon for £20-30 and plug it in. Same for speakers, built-in ones are weak, but you can connect a soundbar or a Bluetooth speaker you probably already own. For a living room with windows, you want something bright. The Anker Nebula X1 is probably your best bet, it's around £2,500, super easy to set up (self-aligns, no ceiling mount), and works fine with some daylight. If that's too much money, look at the BenQ W4100i – cheaper, still great, but you'll need to mount it or put it on a shelf. I put together a comparison [**here**](https://medium.com/@dejan-k/projector-vs-100-inch-tv-2026-d0b6e18c3c14) with all the top options and what each one is good for. Happy to answer any other questions – I was clueless too before I bought mine.
For an Airbnb, honestly, go with the Anker Nebula X1. It's not the cheapest, but trust me, guests won't want to deal with focusing and adjusting. This one literally sets itself up. Press a button and you're done. Built-in Google TV too, so Netflix, YouTube, Apple TV – all work without extra devices. The Valerion Pro2 has better picture quality, no question. But for guests coming and going? Too much hassle. You need to set it up properly, get the placement right... not worth the headache. I'd grab the Nebula and call it a day. Fewer guest calls, less stress. [There's a few other options in here](https://medium.com/@dejan-k/projector-vs-100-inch-tv-2026-d0b6e18c3c14) if you want to compare, but for your situation – Nebula's the one.
With white walls and ambient light, you're fighting an uphill battle. At $3,000 CAD, look for high brightness (3,000+ lumens) and budget for an ALR screen (\~$500-1,000). That combo is almost mandatory for daytime use. Anker Nebula X1 or BenQ W4100i are your best bets. Honest truth? A TV would look way better during the day. But if you're set on a projector, get an ALR screen. 👍 I wrote more about [projector vs TV for home theater here](https://medium.com/@dejan-k/projector-vs-100-inch-tv-2026-d0b6e18c3c14) if you want to dig in.
been using Soundcore Nebula X1 Pro in a dedicated dark room and the triple laser contrast is genuinely impressive, fits that budget range and the liquid cooling keeps it whisper quiet in eco mode
It is a good projector. Every projector in its price range has some sort of problems with software unfortunately. Nebula X1 is better for colour accuracy and native contrast. However it's dynamic contrast is terrible, it has issues with hdmi connectivity. Xgimi also has issues with dynamic contrast. Unfortunately, most of the brands use misleading marketing. There is no good standardized way to do testing for projectors. I think rtings did pretty decent reviews but even they failed to capture many nuances.
Its image quality definitely looks better with the lights off. But it's 3500 lumens, enough brightness, so it performs not bad when the lights on, I think
I actually watched Venom yesterday, and the shadow details were pretty impressive. Those monsters looked clear, no blurry tentacles or anything
Yeah my parents were blown away when they saw it too and they love it
