r/projectorsMoving into a dorm – looking for a cheap small projector, how many lumens do I really need?

300 ANSI lumens will be enough for a smaller image size and a relatively dim room. I use a benq gv30 on the ceiling over my bed. I'm thinking of upgrading to the gv50, but the extra brightness is a nice-to-have not a need-to-have. I had an 800 lumen projector (xgimi h1) I could use with regular curtains 80% of the time, and the image size was pretty large. I should've mounted closer to the screen for a smaller brighter image but by then I was too lazy to redo all the mounting work. If I really needed to watch something during the brightest 4 hours of the day I'd use my laptop screen. It also depends on how your roommates feel about living in perpetual darkness/how frequently you plan to use it.

I’ve really enjoyed the BENQ GV30. I’ve had it for years and it’s been great. I believe they have better models now with more brightness and better resolution.
