My first projector was a BenQ 1085st, which I projected at a grey wall that was sanded and painted with a popular recipe mix I got from AVSforum. It looked amazing. I was super happy with it. Installing the projector incurred some extra costs I wasn't expecting during the wiring, and my wife kaiboshed my screen budget as a result. The paint solution felt like a consolation prize, but when I eventually tested a screen there was ZERO difference (the swatches fully disappeared into the wall in the projected image), and it being a whole wall effectively hid the entire thing. If you're trying to optimize your experience, I'm going to recommend increasing your budget $50-100. Buy an x500i while it's on sale for $1500, mix up some paint for your wall, and apply it carefully to get it as smooth as you can.

As stated, I've never seen any rainbows on this or the BenQ HT1085ST I have in another room.

I went from cheaper 70inch 4k Samsung to benq 1080p projector I purchased on eBay. Even though the resolution isn’t as good I prefer the projector by a long shot. I love it
