Daytime use = control the light in the room. Don't just think a thousand extra lumens will fix things. It won't. The BenQ TK710 or X500i from BenQ, if you can find one within budget, or stretch your budget, is the way to go. The TK710 is brighter but not as good for movie viewing. Both use the larger and (hopefully) more reliable .65" DLP chip. Both are laser/LED light sources, for long term reliability. The TK700 is a lot less money and readily available as a refurb. But, it uses a lamp and the older .47" DLP chip in it. Viewsonic tends to try to put out projectors similar to what BenQ does, but they tend to fail to achieve the same quality that BenQ often delivers, so I'd generally skip them.

The TK700 is a lamp based projector using the older .47" pixel shifter to get 4K out of it. So, the TK710 goes to the newer/larger .65" DLP chip which will hopefully be more reliable and seems to give a boost to contrast, and the laser light system which should last many many years. Pretty massive upgrade between the two models for sure.

It is solidly bright, and you aren't likely going to get anything that is really brighter for the money these run. Read the review from Projector Central here... I have the BenQ tk700 which is rated for 3000 lumens also. I love it and wanted 4k. I know you are looking for something cheaper but just came here to say if you are smart with light placement 3000 lumen can definitely work. I put in a cheap plug in track light with cheap smart bulbs that I can turn the heads. Basically chose an angle that didn’t effect the screen by placing to the side. I also picked the blue green light cause I thought it looked kind of cool but does very color. https://preview.redd.it/6l6ak74ohzhe1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0fb9f6d1511b6fcb69ad8e46bb45f1a65d3f1d0e

I have the refurbished TK700 from this same seller. We like it so far. Using it in our living room, great at night, okay during the day, needs to have blackout curtains drawn when watching movies with dark scenes. You can use Projector Central to calculate screen size and throw distance. The only downside so far is no vertical or horizontal shift.

The image quality is awesome. It punches above its weight big time. I purchased the tk700 along with it know I’d return one or the other, and I returned the tk700. The 4k wasn’t enough of a difference. I have 100” screen and only sit 8’ away. Some would say at that size and distance away I’d benefit from 4k, but I’ve not seen any downside.

I'm still searching for my magic bullet. I watched countless movies and stuff on my friend's Epson and never noticed even a hint of RBE, didn't know it was a thing. I got a BenQ Tk700 and had to return it because the rainbows were unbearable. Unfortunately I'd love to get something that's also good for gaming, and I mostly like fast-paced action games so the ~20ms latency listed for every Epson I see is not gonna cut it.

I went with the BenQ TK700 they make it in a short throw as well if that matters. I tried the X3100 when it first came out and the running noise was so loud with it being suspended right above my head in the theater. I'm happy with the Tk700. It's my third BenQ. For the money it does everything I want it to do. It could have better colors especially in HDR but all around a solid projector for gaming and movies.

I would stay away from lifestyle projectors if you want a good black floor. I wouldn't get anything with a 0.23" DMD like the Capsule 3. They do not look 1080p if you have good eyesight. EF-11/EF-12 are really too slow for gaming. Do you have a sound system? If so I would focus on more proper projector models. Plug an Android stick in if you need one. Maybe the Benq TH series? Are you ok with lamp? For $1000, the BenQ TK700 (not STi) or a refurb Epson 3200 are probably your best bets. If you want to go solid state ( which I would argue might be a bigger upgrade in some ways than 4K) you’ll have to save more for the laser powered BenQ TK710. There are a couple BenQ/Viewsonic 4LEDs in that range I really like but they are comparatively dim. Epson makes exactly zero solid state projectors I would recommend below the $4000 LS11000. Hopefully that will change at CES but it appears Epson is trying to move up market and is abandoning the lower price tiers to the same kind of kitschy, low contrast, “life-style” crap the market is already flooded with.

Idk if you've figured out how but I believe that if you got a pair of BenQ, AWOL, Xpand, and HI-Point glasses and did a review of color accuracy, how much light passes through and if they have any sync issues or other details (do you need to be in a sweet zone to work?) then that would help people out. It would for me at least for my BenQ TK700 😅. Trying to find a good pair of glasses to get before pulling the trigger is kinda hard. Trying to decided between AWOL amd Xpand, id love to get BenQ's glasses but they dont make em anymore 😮‍💨

The 2350 is NOT a good Projector! What Screen and Screensize do you have? Best cheap TRUE 4K Gaming Projector is the BenQ TK700.

If you're not super sensitive to rainbow effect get TK700. If you are one of the few then the 2350. Most people aren't super sensitive to it though.

i have the tk700sti, it is okish in a shaded room. not ideal, but not bad. you don't need pitch dark to enjoy, a little light is fine. if its night time and you have a lamp in a corner of a room it is still fine. i sometimes watch movies with dimm lights while i eat and it is ok. tk700sti is 3000 lumen.
