"any projector over 3000 lumens would be great in a room as bright as yours. The Benq tk700 ... was about $1k. It’s in my sunroom and I’ve no regrets"

"great brightness"

"I’m happy with the brightness"

"The reviews indicate that it comes close (about 10% off) to the peak brightness claimed and that it retains very good color (very unusual) while hitting that brightness. So, you get a usable 2,800+ lumens of brightness out of the TK700. ... The TK700 is surprisingly color accurate at over 2,800 lumens. So, it's a better choice in the real world."

"Great picture."

"great brightness, color"

"I read everywhere that the BenQ TK700STi is an amazing gaming projector etc, but it turned out that my eyes/brain sees RBE on it literally every second making it unwatchable for me."

I have a TK700 and can attest that your picture is an accurate representation of what it would look like with the level of light in that room with a grey screen (the color of the bottom of the screen under the icons in your picture). So you gotta decide if that's good enough for you.

I just got the BenQ TK700. It’s below your budget but checks a lot of the boxes. Super low input lag. Great for gaming. Great picture. It’s mostly white but has a grey front panel.

First, that simulated view is crazy realistic. What did you use to do it? For the projector, I use a BENQ TK700; it has great brightness, color and 240HZ with 4ms input lag. I use it with a grey screen to make up for some of the light that's reflected off the walls.

Agreed mostly - his reviews really are excellent. I think he could do more in educating people about differences in DLP vs LCD projectors for example. I'm a good case in point: I read everywhere that the BenQ TK700STi is an amazing gaming projector etc, but it turned out that my eyes/brain sees RBE on it literally every second making it unwatchable for me. I think he should make a firmer case for RBE and it's potential drawbacks instead of one sentence - seeing as there are some people who literally cannot watch content on a projector like that (on a different model, BenQ W4000i at a friends' place, I saw RBE too but much less).

Daytime use = control the light in the room. Don't just think a thousand extra lumens will fix things. It won't. The BenQ TK710 or X500i from BenQ, if you can find one within budget, or stretch your budget, is the way to go. The TK710 is brighter but not as good for movie viewing. Both use the larger and (hopefully) more reliable .65" DLP chip. Both are laser/LED light sources, for long term reliability. The TK700 is a lot less money and readily available as a refurb. But, it uses a lamp and the older .47" DLP chip in it. Viewsonic tends to try to put out projectors similar to what BenQ does, but they tend to fail to achieve the same quality that BenQ often delivers, so I'd generally skip them.

It is solidly bright, and you aren't likely going to get anything that is really brighter for the money these run. Read the review from Projector Central here... For gaming, you are generally looking at DLP models for extremely fast response time and low input lag on many models (but not all, so check!). You are typically working with lamp-based models at this price, and you can get factory refurbs of models like the BenQ TK700 (not the BenQ TK700STi which is short throw) for that money. JMGO was (is?) having a sale which puts one of their 4K models at $1,000, which is a reasonably good model for the money as well. What else may be on the used market is a tough call as there are a ton of 'used' projectors out there at varying price points. Optoma's UHD series have had very poor reliability, so that's something to consider as well in your search, but some people have had great luck with their models. Your choice on whether to consider them or not.

Go BenQ TK700 if gaming is priority low lag, view sonic PX701-4K if movies matter more better colors value. XGIMI lifestyle less for serious gaming.

I have the refurbished TK700 from this same seller. We like it so far. Using it in our living room, great at night, okay during the day, needs to have blackout curtains drawn when watching movies with dark scenes. You can use Projector Central to calculate screen size and throw distance. The only downside so far is no vertical or horizontal shift.

I don’t think that budget gets you into gaming 4k. That’s basically base model 4k. You can get a used Benq tk700 with extended warranty

As long as the light in the top-right of your pic can be dimmed (assuming it’s from a lamp?), any projector over 3000 lumens would be great in a room as bright as yours. The Benq tk700 is low latency for gaming which is why I picked it for myself, and was about $1k. It’s in my sunroom and I’ve no regrets

I went with the BenQ TK700 they make it in a short throw as well if that matters. I tried the X3100 when it first came out and the running noise was so loud with it being suspended right above my head in the theater. I'm happy with the Tk700. It's my third BenQ. For the money it does everything I want it to do. It could have better colors especially in HDR but all around a solid projector for gaming and movies.
