I would look at the BenQ TK710 as a really solid option overall. It's DLP and laser based so it is nice and quick for sports viewing and the laser means no lamp to replace. It should be within your budget as well. Look up the throw distance and make sure it fits your space properly. Go to at least a 120" screen, otherwise, just get a 100" TV for the same money. The Hisense C1/C2 models are pretty nice as well, but may be tougher to place accurately in your room.

BenQ is a solid brand. Be aware that you will want some sort of sound system to go with things and that if you have planned a spot for the projector to go, you need to be sure the throw distance will work with that projector and your 120" screen. That is, the lens on the BenQ TK710 is MUCH different than the lens on the TK710STi. Why not a LCD projector (Epson). 3 LCD panel projectors tend to be quite durable and can look really good. Like the Epson 3800. But, DLP models also look quite good and models like the TK710 from BenQ are a pretty solid choice for entry level home theater use. Their X500i is also a really solid model. I'd take either BenQ over the Epson models as they use a solid state light engine on them. Epson is still stuck with their lamp projectors right now.

Daytime use = control the light in the room. Don't just think a thousand extra lumens will fix things. It won't. The BenQ TK710 or X500i from BenQ, if you can find one within budget, or stretch your budget, is the way to go. The TK710 is brighter but not as good for movie viewing. Both use the larger and (hopefully) more reliable .65" DLP chip. Both are laser/LED light sources, for long term reliability. The TK700 is a lot less money and readily available as a refurb. But, it uses a lamp and the older .47" DLP chip in it. Viewsonic tends to try to put out projectors similar to what BenQ does, but they tend to fail to achieve the same quality that BenQ often delivers, so I'd generally skip them.

If this is a permanent installation, look at home theater projectors, or lifestyle models designed to be easily ceiling mounted. A proper 5.1 audio installation with an AV receiver is a must, especially in a dedicated space with a home you actually own. Run wiring in the walls before you paint, and you will have a life long proper surround system. Avoid equipment at the front of the room if possible. Run HDMI to the projector and make it so you can swap out that HDMI cable. Wireless/screen mirroring is generally quite a lousy way to do anything. Use a wired device like an Apple TV or a Chromecast. If you're just streaming, consider a Roku or similar. The lifestyle models, as seen in the video, and as recommended with the X1 are decent solutions for sure, but are trickier to ceiling mount if they don't have a 3-point or 4-point mounting structure as is common with traditional projectors. Plus, they rarely have zoom and lens shift is almost unheard of. These are more common features on traditional projectors. But, the Hisense C2 Pro is a model with good zoom but terrible mounting. The Nexigo Trivision Ultra is well reviewed and has 4-point mounting which is nice for a ceiling setup. No zoom, no lens shift, so positioning must be very accurate for best results, as is common. Super easy to setup are models like the Epson 3800, but they are lamp-based and pretty much past their prime. A shame we haven't seen a laser version of those models yet. The BenQ X500i or X3100i are considerations as is the TK710 (or TK710STi) which are decent traditional models. High end starts around $5000 with Epson, Sony, and JVC models, all worthy in a good theater. Not sure what you're really hoping to spend here. A fixed frame screen from Silver Ticket is a excellent way to go.

Can confirm, I got a refurbished TK710 directly from BenQ a month ago as my first projector and couldn't be happier. Can even watch films and play video games during the day.

Given your budget and setup, almost certainly a TV. You can get a really nice 75" Mini-LED with 144hz and VRR and still probably have a couple bucks left over to buy some DLC. That said, I just went to a projector with my PS5, and I LOVE it, but my total setup was closer to 1500 Euro. It's been fantastic for the types of games I play (Expedition 33 is *GORGEOUS*), but I don't think I'd get it if I was still a CoD guy like when I was a teenager. It performs great for Destiny, but anything faster might be a bit wonky. I got a BenQ TK710, a Samsung all-in-one Soundbar, and a 120" Grey soft screen that just attaches to the wall via hook-and-loop tape. I'm upgrading that soon, but it's been great for the last month. The resolution is comparable to my previous 4k TV, and I can go to about 110" in my living room comfortably.

You should be able to get the XGIMI Horizon refurb on their website around that. It's what I'd be using if I hadn't gotten a great deal on my TK710 this summer (Amazon Prime deals can be a heck of a thing if you get lucky)

Don't buy this product! I bought one and it definitely has a very bad light leaking problem. And the most frustrating thing is: authorized BenQ technical service in my country (Turkey) said it doesn't have an issue and didn't accept it!

r/projectorsBenQ TK710 vs Viewsonic LS901-4K
9 months ago

In this price range for 4k you are going to give up certain things. So the BenQ is ultimately going to look better in a darker room. You'll get more accurate contrast and colors. However, with it only being 3200lm... When you turn on lights or have outside light coming in. You won't be able to see it and it will be washed out. *** a good projector screen could help with this*** With the ViewSonic... The colors and contrast will be less accurate. You'll see that with commercial projectors. They are made to deal with more ambient light. At the cost of color accuracy. But when lights are on... It will be easier to see. Now remember, no matter how bright a projector is. It can only overcome so much ambient light. If I were you... I would buy both from B&H try them out. And return the one you don't like. Just be very careful with packaging and the projectors. They had a pretty good, no questions asked return policy when I was testing projectors. I personally really liked the ViewSonic PX749-4K UHD 4K. It was a nice middle ground.

If I were doing this as you plan to I would personally get a Epson 3800 or Benq tk710 (tho I haven’t spent a lot of time w the valerian or nicer nebulas yet) with an Apple TV which you could airport audio to a pair of Apple speakers

I think those two are the best middle of the road projectors out right now. The Benq 3100 is also really good but at a cost. I’ve heard solid things about the Hisense and the valerian but no personal experience. Bluetooth may work or may have a lag. Can’t know without testing the combination. AirPlay will not have a lag. But yes there’s lots of ways to get that part to work. I always run wires so haven’t tried many of the wireless solutions but I do hear of lots of issues with Bluetooth sync

Benq 710 is a very good choice. Tho we don’t know longevity yet the valerian are very good. Benq 3100 is awesome. I’m running an Epson ls11000 at the moment…. All start at double your budget. There are good choices between your budget and $2k just those are my current top choices

r/projectorsBest Home Projector To Buy in 2026? (Price, Quality, Brightness)

First of, the best you can get from a projector-sound is “useable”. Even then the sound will most likely come from the wrong direction. Think of a sound solution with dedicated speakers before buying a projector. That said, I was in a similar situation and went with the Benq TK710 after testing three different projectors in that price range. My criteria was: 150” screen on slightly grey wall, white body, laser light source for peace of mind, low input lag, 5m ceiling mounted projection distance, around 1300€. The reson I didn’t consider Xgimi etc. is that I think they look very horrible when ceiling mounted, especially in a white living room.

I just got the TK710 and agree. Only thing that is anoying is the noise. I don’t even think it’s the fans, has to be the pixel shift or color wheel etc.

My TK710 is in an Airbnb where simplicity is paramount. Requiring a guest to use a separate remote to power off the projector is a deal breaker. This is so frustrating.

I've had to return mine after just a few day. I didn't want to. I don't have light bleed issues, however, I read somewhere else that that was a known problem with a bad batch of tk710's. https://old.reddit.com/r/projectors/comments/1hnsj4d/benq_tk710_shining_a_long_beam_of_white_light_off/ With mine, the static picture quality is fantastic, as is the brightness, all in all it would be perfect... But it suffers badly from rainbow artifects. My previous tk850 was ok in that regard. Looking at others comments and reviews, I'm thinking now that it may have been a fault or misalignment. Too late now, though, I decided I had to go 3LCD. I have an Epson-LH10000 arriving next week..

r/projectorsWaited for 4K to come down in price but the market seems to have collapsed completely?

Took a look at some TVs. An 86" TV for $2000 would be IPS, probably no backlight zones, 8-bit. At a slightly smaller size (but with 4K..) my soon to be 10 year old projector would have better color depth, probably be more color accurate and have way better black levels. When I go to electronics stores very few TVs actually look like an improvement, some even look worse. oled and miniled are truly groundbreaking in comparison, but a 86" Oled would be ridiculously expensive.

Took a look at it, at more than double the price of my old one it is a bit jarring to see, but it also feels like a true upgrade (though 95% Rec709 didn't look very impressive?). But 4K, HDR (at least it can decode it..), nice design and a remote that doesn't look like a goofy plastic toy. Might be worth it! Laser seems convenient. 30000 hours would be like 30 years for our use case (600-1000h a year roughly). Not having to worry about cooldown before turning it on again would also be nice.
