BenQ is a solid brand. Be aware that you will want some sort of sound system to go with things and that if you have planned a spot for the projector to go, you need to be sure the throw distance will work with that projector and your 120" screen. That is, the lens on the BenQ TK710 is MUCH different than the lens on the TK710STi. If this is a permanent installation, look at home theater projectors, or lifestyle models designed to be easily ceiling mounted. A proper 5.1 audio installation with an AV receiver is a must, especially in a dedicated space with a home you actually own. Run wiring in the walls before you paint, and you will have a life long proper surround system. Avoid equipment at the front of the room if possible. Run HDMI to the projector and make it so you can swap out that HDMI cable. Wireless/screen mirroring is generally quite a lousy way to do anything. Use a wired device like an Apple TV or a Chromecast. If you're just streaming, consider a Roku or similar. The lifestyle models, as seen in the video, and as recommended with the X1 are decent solutions for sure, but are trickier to ceiling mount if they don't have a 3-point or 4-point mounting structure as is common with traditional projectors. Plus, they rarely have zoom and lens shift is almost unheard of. These are more common features on traditional projectors. But, the Hisense C2 Pro is a model with good zoom but terrible mounting. The Nexigo Trivision Ultra is well reviewed and has 4-point mounting which is nice for a ceiling setup. No zoom, no lens shift, so positioning must be very accurate for best results, as is common. Super easy to setup are models like the Epson 3800, but they are lamp-based and pretty much past their prime. A shame we haven't seen a laser version of those models yet. The BenQ X500i or X3100i are considerations as is the TK710 (or TK710STi) which are decent traditional models. High end starts around $5000 with Epson, Sony, and JVC models, all worthy in a good theater. Not sure what you're really hoping to spend here. A fixed frame screen from Silver Ticket is a excellent way to go.

Can confirm, I got a refurbished TK710 directly from BenQ a month ago as my first projector and couldn't be happier. Can even watch films and play video games during the day.

I'm on a BenQ TK710 and it's fantastic

Given your budget and setup, almost certainly a TV. You can get a really nice 75" Mini-LED with 144hz and VRR and still probably have a couple bucks left over to buy some DLC. That said, I just went to a projector with my PS5, and I LOVE it, but my total setup was closer to 1500 Euro. It's been fantastic for the types of games I play (Expedition 33 is *GORGEOUS*), but I don't think I'd get it if I was still a CoD guy like when I was a teenager. It performs great for Destiny, but anything faster might be a bit wonky. I got a BenQ TK710, a Samsung all-in-one Soundbar, and a 120" Grey soft screen that just attaches to the wall via hook-and-loop tape. I'm upgrading that soon, but it's been great for the last month. The resolution is comparable to my previous 4k TV, and I can go to about 110" in my living room comfortably.

You should be able to get the XGIMI Horizon refurb on their website around that. It's what I'd be using if I hadn't gotten a great deal on my TK710 this summer (Amazon Prime deals can be a heck of a thing if you get lucky)

I still love mine 6 months in, and my main use for it is PlayStation. I'm not sure how bad the rbe is on it, but BenQ tk710 is fantastic for latency and colour faithfulness.

TK710 can throw a 120” 4k image at 145” for right under 2k. If your walls and ceiling both are not painted black you will still want to go with a grey screen (if you already haven’t stumbled across this during your studies). Edit: Elite Screens do okay things with manual pull up and pull downs but if you’re going to spend 2k, I would go with a “fixed screen” something like this https://www.silverticketproducts.com/collections/fixed-projection-screens/products/str-169120-g . Extremely easy installation and you’ll be happy with the results. Pull ups and pull downs can get a “wavy” effect when a camera pans. It’s very noticeable. Fixed screens provide a near perfect flat service that will not distort the image. Hope this help!

If I were doing this as you plan to I would personally get a Epson 3800 or Benq tk710 (tho I haven’t spent a lot of time w the valerian or nicer nebulas yet) with an Apple TV which you could airport audio to a pair of Apple speakers

I think those two are the best middle of the road projectors out right now. The Benq 3100 is also really good but at a cost. I’ve heard solid things about the Hisense and the valerian but no personal experience. Bluetooth may work or may have a lag. Can’t know without testing the combination. AirPlay will not have a lag. But yes there’s lots of ways to get that part to work. I always run wires so haven’t tried many of the wireless solutions but I do hear of lots of issues with Bluetooth sync

Benq 710 is a very good choice. Tho we don’t know longevity yet the valerian are very good. Benq 3100 is awesome. I’m running an Epson ls11000 at the moment…. All start at double your budget. There are good choices between your budget and $2k just those are my current top choices

First of, the best you can get from a projector-sound is “useable”. Even then the sound will most likely come from the wrong direction. Think of a sound solution with dedicated speakers before buying a projector. That said, I was in a similar situation and went with the Benq TK710 after testing three different projectors in that price range. My criteria was: 150” screen on slightly grey wall, white body, laser light source for peace of mind, low input lag, 5m ceiling mounted projection distance, around 1300€. The reson I didn’t consider Xgimi etc. is that I think they look very horrible when ceiling mounted, especially in a white living room.

I just got the TK710 and agree. Only thing that is anoying is the noise. I don’t even think it’s the fans, has to be the pixel shift or color wheel etc.

Sorry I didn’t read your currency right. I got the TK710 for 1300€ in December. Maybe save a bit more? I really have the exact same environment. Projecting ceiling mounted (end of the room) from 5m to get a large 4k image on a painted smooth wall. I tested a few projectors at home and the TK710 came on top. My wall is RAL 000 85 00 with a gain of around 0.7. I usually just watch movies in the evening/night and the room can be made dark easily. The picture quality is great even in eco mode which is around 1200 measured lumen. The projector draws just 100W which is nice if you are using solar. For daytime watching you can put the projector into normal mode but with some daylight the quality deteriorates severely. Totally fine for news/youtube but not great for movies. I think some of the recommended new chinese projectors might even be a better deal but I don’t like how they look ceiling mounted. I don’t have a dedicated „home cinema“ so aesthetics in the living room is important for me.

My TK710 is in an Airbnb where simplicity is paramount. Requiring a guest to use a separate remote to power off the projector is a deal breaker. This is so frustrating.

I’d spend a little time researching. The Streammaster is a true lifestyle projector so it has zero zoom or lens shift. Meaning placement of the projector is really important to get the size and position of your screen right. You can use keystone and the digital zoom to correct for mounting errors but doing so will reduce the usable resolution, can introduce artifacts, light border and will introduce input latency in your games. It’s becoming less common, unfortunately, but IMO it’s desirable to get a projector with a bit of zoom and, if possible, a bit of lens shift as well. By having zoom you can resize the image WITHOUT having to physically move the projector or rely on the digital image manipulation. Lens shift essentially allows you to move the projected image up/down or even left/right also. Vertical lens shift is the most common on budget models while more expensive projectors have both V/H. While both are good to have I find when mounting a projector it easier to line up the projector left/right but harder to get the height exact as most mounts simply don’t offer a fine enough adjustment. If you’re wanting to mount the projector I am also not a fan of the single threaded insert. You probably always should have a security harness for a hanging projector but IDK I just feel better when there are 3 or 4 mounting holes to hang from. That single threaded mount was more intended to stick this thing on a tripod as in China and other parts of Asia it’s far more common to use a tripod or simply stick the projector on a table. The Valerians have garnered a great reputation for their bright, punchy image. But these tri-laser models are also known to exhibit laser sparkle and IME they also display rainbow effect (RBE) pretty noticeably, laser sparkle is unique to tri laser projectors while RBE is an artifact that impacts ALL consumer DLPs. Sensitivity to these artifacts varies from person to person and, indeed, projector to projector. So you might not see either but if you do and it bothers you it would be good to have a generous return policy to send the unit back. The good news is there has never been a better time to get into projectors with the breadth and variety of models available. There is something to meet just about every budget and use case. I would spend some more time researching and investigate some alternatives in your price range. For rooms like yours I’ve recommended the following models: Under $2K I really like the following models: For budget solid state DLP: BenQ TK710 (single laser), Viewsonic X2-4K (4LED) For short throw DLP: BenQ X500i (4LED) If you want to avoid DLP because you’re sensitive to RBE or just need more lens placement then: Epson Home Cinema 3800 This one is a killer deal right now. It’s 3LCD and lamp but to get a solids state projector with a similar lens you’d need to spend $3000-4000.
