This. I had an optima HD39HDR and lasted 3 years. I bought a BenQ tk710 laser and love it. It's like watching OLED

I would look at the BenQ TK710 as a really solid option overall. It's DLP and laser based so it is nice and quick for sports viewing and the laser means no lamp to replace. It should be within your budget as well. Look up the throw distance and make sure it fits your space properly. Go to at least a 120" screen, otherwise, just get a 100" TV for the same money. The Hisense C1/C2 models are pretty nice as well, but may be tougher to place accurately in your room.

BenQ is a solid brand. Be aware that you will want some sort of sound system to go with things and that if you have planned a spot for the projector to go, you need to be sure the throw distance will work with that projector and your 120" screen. That is, the lens on the BenQ TK710 is MUCH different than the lens on the TK710STi. The throw distance is a massive factor in your decision. Throw distance is measured from lens to screen (not wall to wall) and 10' to a 120" diagonal isn't super easy to achieve. With just over 10', the BenQ TK710 is the model I would likely go with or the X3100i. There are a lot more on this list which would work as well, but those two jump out at me as solid options... Why not a LCD projector (Epson). 3 LCD panel projectors tend to be quite durable and can look really good. Like the Epson 3800. But, DLP models also look quite good and models like the TK710 from BenQ are a pretty solid choice for entry level home theater use. Their X500i is also a really solid model. I'd take either BenQ over the Epson models as they use a solid state light engine on them. Epson is still stuck with their lamp projectors right now.

Daytime use = control the light in the room. Don't just think a thousand extra lumens will fix things. It won't. The BenQ TK710 or X500i from BenQ, if you can find one within budget, or stretch your budget, is the way to go. The TK710 is brighter but not as good for movie viewing. Both use the larger and (hopefully) more reliable .65" DLP chip. Both are laser/LED light sources, for long term reliability. The TK700 is a lot less money and readily available as a refurb. But, it uses a lamp and the older .47" DLP chip in it. Viewsonic tends to try to put out projectors similar to what BenQ does, but they tend to fail to achieve the same quality that BenQ often delivers, so I'd generally skip them.

My opinion is that I would get the TK710 or the Epson TW7100. The Epson offers a lot more placement flexibility and has very good contrast and brightness which makes it a very solid first projector. The TK710 uses the larger .65" DLP chip inside of it which should prove to be far more reliable than the typical .47" DLP chip used in most 4K projectors. The TK710 does have features like HDMI-ARC which will get audio from the projector back into a sound bar or similar audio system which uses HDMI-ARC as many do these days. It may be a significant feature to consider. The HT2060 is a solid 1080p projector, but if you can get the TK710, I'd probably go that route for a 4K model instead.

If this is a permanent installation, look at home theater projectors, or lifestyle models designed to be easily ceiling mounted. A proper 5.1 audio installation with an AV receiver is a must, especially in a dedicated space with a home you actually own. Run wiring in the walls before you paint, and you will have a life long proper surround system. Avoid equipment at the front of the room if possible. Run HDMI to the projector and make it so you can swap out that HDMI cable. Wireless/screen mirroring is generally quite a lousy way to do anything. Use a wired device like an Apple TV or a Chromecast. If you're just streaming, consider a Roku or similar. The lifestyle models, as seen in the video, and as recommended with the X1 are decent solutions for sure, but are trickier to ceiling mount if they don't have a 3-point or 4-point mounting structure as is common with traditional projectors. Plus, they rarely have zoom and lens shift is almost unheard of. These are more common features on traditional projectors. But, the Hisense C2 Pro is a model with good zoom but terrible mounting. The Nexigo Trivision Ultra is well reviewed and has 4-point mounting which is nice for a ceiling setup. No zoom, no lens shift, so positioning must be very accurate for best results, as is common. Super easy to setup are models like the Epson 3800, but they are lamp-based and pretty much past their prime. A shame we haven't seen a laser version of those models yet. The BenQ X500i or X3100i are considerations as is the TK710 (or TK710STi) which are decent traditional models. High end starts around $5000 with Epson, Sony, and JVC models, all worthy in a good theater. Not sure what you're really hoping to spend here. A fixed frame screen from Silver Ticket is a excellent way to go.

The TK710 has good color accuracy and is a excellent choice for all types of viewing. It is not primarily made for gaming. It is just really good with gaming. It is good at everything really. It does NOT have the level of color saturation as say their HT4550i, but that model costs a fair bit more. It will take some minor tweaking to get the most out of this model in a 'theater' space, but this model is one that I believe will be a GO TO first projector for a lot of buyers over the next couple of years. From 12' it can hit a 110" diagonal, so it should work fine for you. The grey screen will help overall as well. Thumbs up on this choice.

Yeah i ended up going with the tk710, zero regrets! Also, if you look at the benq website for the 860i 'Home Theatre' projector it's basically superseded by the tk710. So, not a problem for home theatre setup which is the main usage case for me, plus some gaming on the side. I'm not even using a screen, go straight onto a 110inch section of off-white wall, and the whites are significantly whiter and blacks considerably blacker than my old DLP was. Very happy.

In this price range for 4k you are going to give up certain things. So the BenQ is ultimately going to look better in a darker room. You'll get more accurate contrast and colors. However, with it only being 3200lm... When you turn on lights or have outside light coming in. You won't be able to see it and it will be washed out. *** a good projector screen could help with this*** With the ViewSonic... The colors and contrast will be less accurate. You'll see that with commercial projectors. They are made to deal with more ambient light. At the cost of color accuracy. But when lights are on... It will be easier to see. Now remember, no matter how bright a projector is. It can only overcome so much ambient light. If I were you... I would buy both from B&H try them out. And return the one you don't like. Just be very careful with packaging and the projectors. They had a pretty good, no questions asked return policy when I was testing projectors. I personally really liked the ViewSonic PX749-4K UHD 4K. It was a nice middle ground.

I highly advise against the TK710. My first unit had strong light leakage. It was replaced two times and each consecutive unit had the same issue. After 4 months dealing with customer service, I’ve finally decided for a refund and go for something else. Never again will I buy a BenQ

I just hooked it up to my PS5, running on HDR10 mode, lightsource mode dynamic. Projecting on a off white wall with slight structure. Coming from an Optoma HD144x I’m really happy with the TK710’s performance. The picture is absolutely stunning. Colors have plenty of pop and the black levels are very good, especially considering the gamer focus of this projector. Looking at some HDR footage on YouTube I don’t feel like I’m really missing any color at all. I’m also loving the tiny border around the image inherent to DLP tech. The Optoma had a very wide border which always annoyed me. I’ll try and get a video uploaded for you guys, but my first impression of this projector is definitely a big thumbs up, especially for anyone who (like me) is using it for gaming most of the time and seeks to keep cost under control (I paid eur 1500) https://preview.redd.it/jai1gqwu8aed1.png?width=4032&format=png&auto=webp&s=a88f92fce97dc173cda407881c8895042fd6125d

I am not happy with mine. I’ve had issues with light bleed which after 3 exchanges for a new unit still isn’t solved. I’ve now agreed with BenQ to do one more RMA and if that offers another unit that has this issue I’ll get a full refund and I’ll look for another projector from another brand. The image the TK710 produces is great, it’s compact and relatively silent, but the light bleed makes it unusable for me. Perhaps people using it with the light on don’t have this issue with it

I’m currently shopping for a new projector and plan on getting the BenQ TK710 Laser Projector. Planning to use the thing predominately for family movie nights and night gaming- throwing to a drop screen from what is going to be a ceiling mount projector, and choosing the TK710 over the 710i because I want a further throw distance so that the projector is not mounted in the center of the room, and can be mounted near the wall behind the couch instead. My previous projector was a bulb and lasted me near a decade. I’m skipping LED and going straight to Laser hoping it will last well beyond that.

I've had to return mine after just a few day. I didn't want to. I don't have light bleed issues, however, I read somewhere else that that was a known problem with a bad batch of tk710's. https://old.reddit.com/r/projectors/comments/1hnsj4d/benq_tk710_shining_a_long_beam_of_white_light_off/ With mine, the static picture quality is fantastic, as is the brightness, all in all it would be perfect... But it suffers badly from rainbow artifects. My previous tk850 was ok in that regard. Looking at others comments and reviews, I'm thinking now that it may have been a fault or misalignment. Too late now, though, I decided I had to go 3LCD. I have an Epson-LH10000 arriving next week..

The TK710 has great contrast, but colors are not as wide gamut and it uses a color wheel, though it is color accurate. Those are the only things. If the price was a little lower I would totally get that. It's 1600:1 native and almost 6000:1 dynamic. Not far off the Valerion according to the Smart Home Hookup.

I would advise you to stay away from that projector for anything other than gaming. It has great brightness and nice contrasts, but there are way too many problems with it. I replaced my W2000 with it a few days ago and i will send it back shortly. The main problems i have with it is that RBE is way more present than before. (Too much for me, and i did not see it at all with my W2000). It is also not that silent, even in ECO mode it is noticeably noisier than the W2000, but that stays in a reasonable range so that is something i could have done with. And there is an awful amount of dithering on the image as soon as the projector runs at 24hz. Dithering is to be expected on a DLP, and it is very reasonable at 60Hz, but when it switches to 24Hz it becomes frankly unusable for me. So much that I am kind of surprised that virtualy no one is talking about it. It was not even adressed for one second in a comparison video i saw. So maybe I have a faulty model, but if not, believe me, you do NOT want to watch movies with it. It is just unusable. At that price point, you will have to make compromises, that's certain, but not being able to watch films without some crazy grain running all over the picture is a complete deal breaker for me. Besides that, color coverage is not great, but i was aware of that fact before buying. (that was the compromise I was ready to make \^\^) For gaming it is really great though.

I bought a benq laser projector (tk710), which is already well over your $1,000 budget. I also had a good quality white screen. I still couldn’t use it without the curtains drawn and the lights off, and even then the light from the projector would reflect off my walls back on to the screen and reduce the contrast. I sent it back in the end and bought a TV. Unless you have a dedicated home theatre space I wouldn’t recommend a projector, and even then, unless you wanted a 120”+ screen a large OLED would be better.

I've just ordered this projector from Richer Sounds in the UK, £1,350 with 6yr guarantee. Looks like I got their last one as it's now out of stock. It'll be my first projector! so I'll nothing to compare it to, but happy to post pictures once it arrives in various lighting if anyones interested. I bought a Duronic fixed frame projector screen. Depending on how the white screen fairs I might upgrade to an elite screens cinegrey 3D (although I'll be right at the distance limit so worried about hotspots!). I'll be using a 92" screen from around 2.5m sitting distance with the projector placement pretty flexible but for the time being on a side table at around the same distance. Some various data I believe to be correct from a week or so research. Blue core laser in the following configuration: https://preview.redd.it/18olc7w7uzkd1.jpeg?width=752&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e9a1cd4797a29ffb14da5a826d746749fd0dcc99 0.65 DMD chip (there's conflicting information on this but confirmed with BenQ EU it does have the larger chip) 24p playback. In the user manual PDF it's listed to support 24p playback at 4k and 1080p.

I think the BenQ TK710 (not the older 700 series) is probably your best choice. The Epson 3800 might be an OK alternative but you give up a lot: namely a solid state lamp/laser, true 4K resolution, support for higher frame rates and DLP’s absolutely fantastic motion handling (which is mind blowing at 120/240Hz). The BenQ X3100i comes highly recommended. I reviewed the prior X3000i a few years back. It’s a great projector and the only one of these three that will give you some extra color gamut support for HDR. I really like the 4LED light engine for its vibrant colors. However it IS a bit pricier and I’m afraid the contrast isn’t nearly as good as the two above. Fine for big screen gaming but maybe a bit less satisfying while watching movies. Another dark horse contender would be the BenQ X500i. This is actually my favorite projector BenQ offers right now besides the HT4550i. It has excellent color and superb contrast— but it’s short throw only and the light output is borderline for a 120” display in a non-dedicated room.

Are you ok with lamp? For $1000, the BenQ TK700 (not STi) or a refurb Epson 3200 are probably your best bets. If you want to go solid state ( which I would argue might be a bigger upgrade in some ways than 4K) you’ll have to save more for the laser powered BenQ TK710. There are a couple BenQ/Viewsonic 4LEDs in that range I really like but they are comparatively dim. Epson makes exactly zero solid state projectors I would recommend below the $4000 LS11000. Hopefully that will change at CES but it appears Epson is trying to move up market and is abandoning the lower price tiers to the same kind of kitschy, low contrast, “life-style” crap the market is already flooded with.

I own one for few days. I've replaced my LG hf60ls. Tk710 Has a great picture, colours are great, its very bright even in sunny room, however its a little bit louder than i've expected. Also big problem for me is no turn off option via HDMI cec. Setup only allows to set "turn on" via HDMI but no "turn off". Its stupid. In my config, where Yamaha amplituner is responsible for agregating all HDMI ports (Xbox, chromecast, etc) and depending on scene it sends signal to projector. When i change scene to music it should turn it off. Right now i must keep an eye on another remote. Also no option for controlling this device via home assistant. There are some geeks who are trying to connect it via ESP port. However today, when all producers bring devices to smart, BenQ made perfect picture with annoying setup.

I have the BenQ TK710. It is 4K laser and 3200 lumens for $1799. The TK710 STi is the short throw version with the same specs, and it is $1999. For best results, you'll want a good ALR screen if you plan to use it in a room without good light control. I have a 120 inch Elite Screens Cinegrey 3D. The combo pretty much looks like a giant 4K television unless I flip on the bright ceiling light that's right beside the projector. Even then, you can still see everything. It just looks a bit washed out. ALR screens aren't cheap, though. I paid $800 for mine, so that would blow your budget. You could get the projector now and the screen later, I suppose.

Presuming you've got room for a standard throw distance, I'd start with the Benq TK710 which is $1800 on their website. It's got a laser light source, high contrast for your horror movies, long life, no replacement bulb costs. You'd need about 10'-13' of throw distance to fill your 120". For sound, I'd get a factory refurb Denon AVR-S760H for $400 from Accessories4Less. Solid receiver, can handle all the modern sources, decent power for a small room. For speakers, I'd run with the SVS Prime Satellite 5.1 System for $1200. That's got a 12" sub that punches deep and will help give those horror flick surround mixes the impact they deserve. And then use Amazon Basics for all the necessary cables and wiring. Not exactly $3500 after taxes but pretty close, and it would be a banger.

The two best sources of info I have found are here: https://www.projectorreviews.com/benq/benq-tk710-4k-laser-casual-gaming-projector-review/ and: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9jJrHDZuA4 From my understanding, the TK710STi should be very similar to the TK710 (mostly just different throws). From the data in the reviews, it appears to have the same or better color, contrast, and black levels as my old HT3550 that I use for 4K, combined with the low latency and higher brightness of my TH685 that I use for gaming. My TH685 is getting some slow mirrors in the DLP (white pixels for the first 10 minutes of use), and the color wheel in my HT3550 is slowly dying (it doesn't always start up on the first try), so I would love to combine them into one new projector, likely a TK710.

You mean the LX700-4K RGB ? As mentioned before i would prefer the X1-4K or BenQ X500i up to 120" Screen Size.(No Laser Speckle) For Screens over 120" and up to 150" the LX700-4K (NOT the RGB Model) or the BenQ TK710 are preferable.

I also just finally upgraded to a 4k projector for the sake of the Switch 2. There are so many variables to take into account regarding the right projector for your setup but I’ll walk you through my journey real quickly. I have a dedicated theater room with controlled light, charcoal grey walls and floor, 120” white pull down screen, and a projector mount already mounted about 10ft away from the screen. My previous projector was a 12 year old ViewSonic PJD7820 which was a fantastic projector when it was new and still worked just as well now (although it is on its third or fourth bulb by now.) My sound system was a really good PC 5.1 surround sound system contemporary to my projector. I also had a 5 input HDMI splitter that does not support UHD but I wasn’t going to replacing anything in my setup so I really wanted a projector with a second HDMI input to basically add one new input to my setup. After researching a lot on specs and reviews I came down to the ViewSonic PX749 and the BenQ TK710. The BenQ was about $800 more expensive but was laser so it would never need bulbs replaced and also has better black levels, while the ViewSonic has a greater brightness but lower contrast ratio. Ultimately I decided to go with the BenQ based on paper specs, but when the delivery got held up and I got a gift card from a friend to B&H and I happened to look if they had either projector there I saw they actually had an open box “like new” version of the ViewSonic for a few hundred dollars off, so I cancelled the order for the BenQ and ordered the ViewSonic instead. The canceled order did not go through and both projectors arrived the same day lol. Well now I was going to actually get to test them side by side. I set up a Blackmagic 6k Pro camera with all fixed settings and ran a ton of tests across all 3 projectors comparing both new ones to my original projector in the 3 different lighting setups that happen in our theater room. One big takeaway, I would have been happy with either of these if there was no direct comparison. They are both good and there was no wrong option. The BenQ pros: super crispy, sharp, and high contrast with vibrant colors almost no light pollution in the blacks. Also it boots up super fast. BenQ cons: while the blacks looked incredible, and everything above middle grey did as well, dark shadows had a weird fizzle/grain to them. I tried different sources, different inputs, different cables… This is just how the projector was. It was not visible from viewing distance, but a couple feet closer and you could see the noise dancing in the shadows. I hated that. Also the aux input is a pass through so when aux is activated the volume controls on the projector are disabled. We have a speaker system with a physical knob turned up high on our setup and use the projector controller to lower the volume, so this was a surprisingly huge knock against it. ViewSonic pros: brightest of all the projectors, good looking vibrant colors (slightly less punchy than the BenQ), better contrast than the previous projector, simplest and best corner pinning settings, audio works exactly as the previous projector did so it is a simple projector swap in our setup with no need for additional hardware and remotes. And lastly my wife really likes the ViewSonic birds, they are cute and that counts not for a lot but if all else is equal it counts for something. ViewSonic cons: contrast not as high as the BenQ. I would have never cared if I had not seen them side by side, I would not have known what could be missing. Also there is chromatic aberration in the corners of the image. It is not visible from viewing distance but if you take a couple steps forward it is visible and that bothers me. Lastly, it uses a lamp which will not last forever. I want this projector to last me a decade and I know what that means regarding replacing the lamp a handful of times in its life. It’s not a huge deal, but I like the idea of not needing to do that. Ultimately I went with the ViewSonic PX749. The BenQ TK710 had a slightly better image thanks to the higher contrast, although both projectors had their visual flaws and honestly I am less bothered by the mild chromatic aberration than the shadow fizzle. The two biggest deciding factors were the audio convenience of the ViewSonic, it really was a simple projector swap and immediate upgrade without any additional effort whereas the BenQ would have required buying more things, using an additional remote… a lot more effort for a mildly better image… and $1200 more. Was the image quality of the BenQ worth the additional $1200? Absolutely not. Would it have been different if I got the ViewSonic for full price? Still probably no but it would have been more to think about. If I had a completely different setup I probably would have gone with the BenQ, but again since the new ViewSonic was as simple swapping one projector for another on an existing mount with existing cables and nothing changing about our setup except an upgraded image I have no regrets and absolutely feel I made the correct choice for me with my setup. And the Switch 2 looks phenomenal on there, I love this system! My wife and I have been playing Split Fiction and it looks amazing, I can’t imagine how anybody plays games any other way than on a massive projection screen in a home theater. So good luck to you on your projector journey. There is no one right answer for everyone, and there are undoubtedly many right answers for you. I am sure whichever way you choose to go will feel like the best option for you when it is all said and done and set up properly.

I have the TK710 and it is as easy to see in full daylight as my tv. Only instead of a glare on the tv you get a bit more grey in the black areas. Upgrading from an older projector with bulb that was getting pretty dim made way more difference than I had expected.

I have one and it’s great. Definitely some fan noise but it gets drowned out by my sound system. I have a very basic db meter and can take a reading for you while watching 4k with the sound turned off. Let me know

I would go projector without a question. I have a BenQ 4k model and 120" screen and the movie watching is so much better.

Yes, still have the TV behind the drop down screen. Don't know why, barely use it since the projector has been in. Hard to go back from full immersive experience. BenQ 4K (few years old now, get many hours of each globe).
