The Optoma will have the best looking image, period. The 1080p chip is reliable and provides excellent contrast for the money and should work well for many years to come. I can't speak to the Acer models as we don't see much from Acer projectors in the USA. Very similar to Optoma I would expect. The DLP models may produce some RBE issues for those sensitive, but otherwise, the much better black levels are truly worth it with these models. Note that placement of all of these models is going to be somewhat limiting due to the cheaper lenses in use. The EF11 has no zoom and a 1:1 throw ratio. The Acer ST model has a fixed .5:1 throw ratio. The Optoma has a 1.48-1.62:1 throw ratio. Make sure you know how to use this tool so you don't find yourself in a mess when you go to set things up... [https://www.projectorcentral.com/Optoma-HD28DSE-projection-calculator-pro.htm](https://www.projectorcentral.com/Optoma-HD28DSE-projection-calculator-pro.htm) If concerned about RBE a ton, then either buy from a place with a decent return policy, or get the FH06 from Epson which is more of a home theater designed model and is a okay entry level unit from them. You will take a hit on contrast for sure with this model and would need to go up to their 3200/3800 models to match what the DLP models are capable of in terms of contrast.
I did this for years when I moved into this house (120" Epson 3500 and a 65" Sammy OLED) . After about 6 months I realized I was comfortable using the 120" for gaming (FPS primarily, loved Destiny), and just started gaming on the PJ and stopped using the TV. Bigger screen, better experience. 4K be damned; it was a 30FPS PS4. OLED be damned, Quantity > Quality. My next move ideally would be to a 4K laser projector for clarity. The TV got moved to a different room, since it was just hiding behind the screen permanently.
The Epson FH06 is your best option, lots more lumens and a solid 3LCD light engine instead of single chip DLP.
I purchased an Epson powerlite 3500 based of the recommendations for $390. If you ask, at least when I was hanging around, the mod would give you a list of projectors based off budget and setup along with the listings.
It's bright enough that I added room treatments
Check out Nothing screens for high value. Sounds like you’re on a budget. They did well in a shoot out. They have their own website and projector screens (dot com) has some inexpensive screens. I had an Epson 3500, due to some ambient light, and loved it. Good for the price. Guests constantly remarked on image quality.
I'm a big fan of Epson projectors I've never tried their laser projectors, but I've had an older Epson 3500 and currently the 5050. When I originally bought the 3500 I was worried about the rainbow effect from DLP projectors. My 3500 is 10 years old and still works fine. I bet you'd be pretty happy with the Epson.
