If in the US, spend a little more and get the EpiqVision Mini EF21.

Thanks you for the suggestions! Unfortunately though, the **Th575** falls into that skyrocketed price conundrum.. Best price I could find it here was around \~8000 BRL (which is 1400 USD). **I know it's better, but I don't think it is "double the price better".** That puts it way above what I'd be willing to pay. =/ The **Th685** is also hard to find, but I've found one new for 1621 USD and an 'openbox/refub/used' for 1242 USD. fun(?) anectode: I kid you not -- sometimes it's cheaper to buy an off-season two-way plane ticket to the US, buy it there and bring it home than buy stuff here. People used to do this all the time with iPhones and Laptops in general. Something changed in the last decade though where some lines of products are virtually the same price or cheaper (Samsung phones, for instance). In fact we have a BenQ HT2050 in her home that we bought in the US. It certainly gives a great experience, and we always watch stuff together when I'm there. But I also bought a awfully cheap (34USD) LED+LCD (HY300) one for a friend of mine recently, and while it had plenty of issues, it manages to create a really cool experience of watching animations in the ceiling together, and stuff. In order of importance, my issues with it: \- high chance of burning the polarizer filter someday (months??) in the future; \- non-sealed optics which will become annoying unless disassembled and cleaned semi-regularly, which would be a PITA; \- awful focus on the borders; \- only usable at night / very dark; So I've spent days and dozens of hours **looking for one that wouldn't break the bank, but that at least wouldn't burn in, and wouldn't get dust inside the lenses**. Those are the main points. But since I'm considering shelling out \~700 USD, I'm hoping to also get: **Better border focus, 1080p, and being able to decently-ish discern shadow details on dark scenes (even if it means the whole black floor is raised or something).** I believe the Epson EF21, using a 3-LCD system and being a reasonably reputable brand wouldn't really be susceptible to that burn-in issue. They literally offer a 2 year (or 12.000 hours, whichever comes first) warranty. **So I've been mostly trying to decide between paying:** $691 for the Epson EF21 (Laser + 3LCD), \~1000 lumens; $757 for the Dangbey Atom (Laser + DLP), \~1000 lumens; $485 for the Epson FH02 (Lamp + 3LCD), \~2000 lumens in eco mode; or $140 for any chinese cheap LED+1LCD with \~300 lumens but that at least has some sealed optics, and **hope for the best**. I'm not planning on using it for extended sessions anyway.. Just here and there, maybe a couple of movies twice a week at most. But well aware it may not have a very long life.

I play ZA on an older version of the Epson EpiqVision Mini laser projector. I got this projector because it is a good quality build for a reasonable price, and with a laser light source. I didn’t want to deal with fragile projector bulbs. Input lag is negligible, although “experts” at twitchy games like Smash might notice a difference from playing on the Switch screen directly. I’m using a second hand overhead projector screen that I can pull down when I play and pop up and away when I’m done. The projector needs to be about 6 feet away from the screen. The EpiqVision has two HDMI ports (like a TV) and a decent built in speaker. When I watch movies with it, I typically connect it to my Apple TV/Homepod, but the projector does also have some smart TV functions.

Kind of depends what you want it to do. If you want a full 4K home cinema, you're looking at $1500+. If you want base HD to do large movies for novelty, there's an Epson Epiq that's about $500 that'll work. The $1500+ ones are unbeatable though, I won't go back to a TV if I have a choice.

I think you have the right instincts here A 4k projector will do the trick. Heck I have a 1080p Epson I picked up open box and a denon avr that can do 7.1. No atmos. And it sounds and looks amazing So nowadays an atmos capable receiver and 4k projector ( even just led ). Will look and sound amazing Just need a few small extra back speakers if and when you decide to use all the extra channels

I don’t have a 4k tv even. I will probably get one soon But I am really impressed with how good even an 1080p Epson can project at 110” image that is totally cinematic So I think any 4 k Epson will be totally good I feed it an Apple TV I have a marantz cinema 70 which is their lowest powered one and use an extra 2 channel amp I have to power fronts. That room looks pretty big so I would go with something cinema 50 and still have the option to add extra power later.
