We don't know yet. The february 2025 ban on new projectors with mercury-conatining lamps only applies to those with less than 2000lm (but a ban on >200lm is scheduled for February2027). There is a pending application to postpone thess bans by 5 years, that have not been decided on yet. However, AFAIK while the application is pending the bans aren't going into effect. I'd expect a decision on that application within the next 12 months. I'm using a about 10-year-old Epson EH-TW5200 while typing this. It just started showing the message about lamp replacement a few days ago. Now I am wondering if it is worth getting another lamp, or I should rather replace the projector (considering a used EH-TW9200 and maybe a laser projector), since I'd prefer more contrast. Anyway, this is my first lamp, so depending on how much you use your projector, a single lamp can last quite long.

IMO $1k is very doable if you’re handy and shop used. My current home theater consisted of: $100 DIY 110” Fixed Screen $100 Used Epson 2030 off FB $20 center channel off $FB $250 Sony towers from 2008 $170 Yamaha TSR-700 from Costco Reciever $80 Atmos (2) speakers $60 Polk Rears $80 Polk 10” sub Lasted me for many many years. I’m finally finishing up adding a dedicated home theater above my garage and I’m all in about $40k (includes building materials, hvac addition etc).

Correct but that system was fine for a movie night by myself of with my kids. Granted I am upgrading from the 2030 to the new XGIMI Titan Noir Max haha. Gonna be a big change. I built DIYSG 1099s for LCR, Full Marty Subs (2x - building at the moment) and then HT-8s for surrounds and rears (also building now). So it’s gonna be a MASSIVE upgrade to my current setup soon.

correct you can just add a fire stick to the hdmi and then get a good bluetooth speaker and pair that to the firestick. That is a good 1080p projector fairly bright, and uses lcd. Just make sure no dead pixels before purchase. It also does 3d so that is a plus. Im still on a 1080p Epson home cinema. OG bulb. Never spend more than you need to for your application. Most hate is people trying to justify the insane price they paid for that extra 10% performance.

Man, still got 1080p Epson home cinema on a 140 inch screen. It really isn't that big a deal. Get a 4k unscaler and save yourself 1000s and/or put more in the sound.
