Had a pro 2 for a few months. It’s absolutely fantastic the blacks are very good the picture is excellent, colors are very vibrant and it’s the best 3/d I’ve seen on any home projector. I have a 150 inch white screen 1.2 gain I think. Had an epson 5040 before the pro 2 and the pro 2 is far better in every way. Can’t comment on the other 2 cause I haven’t seen them in person. Good luck.

in 2019, $615 It's over 1000 now! It's not the best screen, but it does it's job well and not ,much wrinkles on the sides. Paired with my Epsom 5040UB. I don't use it in a light controlled room either. [https://imgur.com/a/HKUnHZb](https://imgur.com/a/HKUnHZb) [https://a.co/d/6KdZ83W](https://a.co/d/6KdZ83W)

I got into one for similar reasons. It was cheap and I was trying to get my HT setup to see if I would enjoy it. I splurged a bit more on the audio equipment because I wanted to feel the sound more than the picture. It worked for a couple years until I finally upgraded to an Epson 5040UB. Obviously the picture is a TON better. But it should be for like 20x the price too. I gave the cheapo to a coworker for his kids and it’s still working. They serve a purpose, they’re not the best, but I think they’re worth the asking price considering the price is less than a 1/3 of what I spend on a trip to the grocery store.

I've already put 15k hours on my 5040UB (8k on first lamp, 7k on the current lamp. I've been waiting on a replacement lamp from an epson distributor for about a month.) The lamp does not dim much at 400 hours, I usually run on eco mode for 3-4k hours.

Yes, there are newer options but that would potentially bring you right up to your price cap. For example, Epson is selling refurbished 5040e's for CAD 2209. I have an Epson 5040, and could not go back to a projector that doesn't have lens shift memory. 2.35 aspect screen baby. Love the black levels too.

I have a 5040, and it’s a fantastic unit. Got it used to replace a really old epson 1080p projector. No regrets. The price point you’ll have to evaluate and compare, but love the machine.

If you can find a used 5040ub for 600 it will absolutely crush anything in the price range or cheaper.

If you don't need 60hz HDR you can find a 5040ub for under 1k very easily and it is basically the same as the 5050ub. It will still do HDR just fine on 24p content

The Epson upscaling 1080p "faux k" projectors (5040ub etc) look fantastic with 4k content (movies and tv, I dont game). We have one with a 120" screen and are happy. When purchased it was way less than a native 4k projector and I doubt sitting 12 ft away I could tell the difference

Sell both amd buy an epson 5040ub, the upgrade was minimal and the screen will be your largest deciding factor in quality.

I have owned and used both. At the end of the day the specs mean absolutely nothing to me. What matters is the image I am looking at and again, I owned the 5030,5040,5050 (and the LS11000 for a couple of days) and yes, the JMGO outperforms them without question. If you can get a chance to see both I suggest you try cause you will be blown away. https://preview.redd.it/7rlbdueas6ze1.jpeg?width=5712&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a4eb60122f39d00e2208c72bbf7148ceee195fe8

I think you have the right instincts here A 4k projector will do the trick. Heck I have a 1080p Epson I picked up open box and a denon avr that can do 7.1. No atmos. And it sounds and looks amazing So nowadays an atmos capable receiver and 4k projector ( even just led ). Will look and sound amazing Just need a few small extra back speakers if and when you decide to use all the extra channels

r/hometheater • Bought a house with a home theater with theater seating and screen. Seller is taking all of the audio gear and projector. Never had a theater and don’t know anything about projectors. Any recommendations? ->

I don’t have a 4k tv even. I will probably get one soon But I am really impressed with how good even an 1080p Epson can project at 110” image that is totally cinematic So I think any 4 k Epson will be totally good I feed it an Apple TV I have a marantz cinema 70 which is their lowest powered one and use an extra 2 channel amp I have to power fronts. That room looks pretty big so I would go with something cinema 50 and still have the option to add extra power later.
