I went from a epson 5040ub as my first to a jvc rs540
Had a pro 2 for a few months. It’s absolutely fantastic the blacks are very good the picture is excellent, colors are very vibrant and it’s the best 3/d I’ve seen on any home projector. I have a 150 inch white screen 1.2 gain I think. Had an epson 5040 before the pro 2 and the pro 2 is far better in every way. Can’t comment on the other 2 cause I haven’t seen them in person. Good luck.
in 2019, $615 It's over 1000 now! It's not the best screen, but it does it's job well and not ,much wrinkles on the sides. Paired with my Epsom 5040UB. I don't use it in a light controlled room either. [https://imgur.com/a/HKUnHZb](https://imgur.com/a/HKUnHZb) [https://a.co/d/6KdZ83W](https://a.co/d/6KdZ83W)
I got into one for similar reasons. It was cheap and I was trying to get my HT setup to see if I would enjoy it. I splurged a bit more on the audio equipment because I wanted to feel the sound more than the picture. It worked for a couple years until I finally upgraded to an Epson 5040UB. Obviously the picture is a TON better. But it should be for like 20x the price too. I gave the cheapo to a coworker for his kids and it’s still working. They serve a purpose, they’re not the best, but I think they’re worth the asking price considering the price is less than a 1/3 of what I spend on a trip to the grocery store.
I've already put 15k hours on my 5040UB (8k on first lamp, 7k on the current lamp. I've been waiting on a replacement lamp from an epson distributor for about a month.) The lamp does not dim much at 400 hours, I usually run on eco mode for 3-4k hours.
Yes, there are newer options but that would potentially bring you right up to your price cap. For example, Epson is selling refurbished 5040e's for CAD 2209. I have an Epson 5040, and could not go back to a projector that doesn't have lens shift memory. 2.35 aspect screen baby. Love the black levels too.
I’m not sure what the market looks like today but my last two projectors have been used/refurbished models that were available for much less than retail. It’s worth checking out. I’m in the US, and bought a Sony VPL-VW60 in 2010 for under $1000. It had a msrp of $5k. I then upgraded it to an Epson refurbished 5040UB for $1150 in 2019. If you are willing to go last generation, you could generally get great deals on projectors that will vastly outperform the budget projectors of the current generation.
I’m still my 5040ub, would the 5050 be able to use th same bracket that my 5040 is in?
The **Epson 3800** is slightly above your desired price range, but it goes on sale for ~$1300 a few times a year. That would be my choice for something new in your price neighborhood. But really, in a budget range this low, I would look for something on the used market. Yes, $1000-1500 is considered on the lower end for projection. You should be able to find an **Epson 5040UB** for ~$1000-1200 used, and get a brand new bulb for it for around $100. With that, it will work like it was new. And it will be better than nearly anything on the market under $2500. Only thing is that the Epson 5040UB can't do 4K/60Hz. You either need to settle for 4K/30Hz or 1440p/60Hz. Not really an issue for movie watching, but could be an issue for some gamers. https://www.myprojectorlamps.com/projector-lamps/Epson/Home%20Cinema%205040UB.html https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fsrp=1&rt=nc&_from=R40&_nkw=Epson+5040UB&_sacat=0&LH_Complete=1&LH_Sold=1&LH_ItemCondition=3000%7C1500
