Great picture/gaming, but RBE and no lens shift are dealbreakers.

The 9300 is the same as the Epson 5040UB/6040UB. On the used market it still performs very well as a solid 1080p product. You do need to be aware that Europe is cutting down on traditional lamps being available for sale. This is a massive issue long term as you won't be able to get new lamps for your projector at some point. You may need to get a couple of them to keep until the projector is dead. But, the projector itself is quite good. The lens on it is amazing with extensive zoom range and lens shift. It is a LARGE projector, so don't be surprised by it. You can read tons of reviews of the 5040 from Epson that are out there. All of them are likely to be really strong about the performance.

Had a pro 2 for a few months. Itās absolutely fantastic the blacks are very good the picture is excellent, colors are very vibrant and itās the best 3/d Iāve seen on any home projector. I have a 150 inch white screen 1.2 gain I think. Had an epson 5040 before the pro 2 and the pro 2 is far better in every way. Canāt comment on the other 2 cause I havenāt seen them in person. Good luck.
I have a Epson 5050ub, but the 5040 is just as good. I had 5040 and upgraded and didn't notice a difference. Maybe if the picture were bigger. I have a 100 inch grey screen from 10 ft away. I did buy Elite Screen ALR fabric and stapled it onto a frame I built. I love my projector and got it used on marketplace. If you want a more budget friendly projector I really liked my BenQ w1070 used I got on marketplace for like $150. My 5050ub hasn't really dropped in value since I got it a couple years back. Buy quality and buy used to save money.
I got into one for similar reasons. It was cheap and I was trying to get my HT setup to see if I would enjoy it. I splurged a bit more on the audio equipment because I wanted to feel the sound more than the picture. It worked for a couple years until I finally upgraded to an Epson 5040UB. Obviously the picture is a TON better. But it should be for like 20x the price too. I gave the cheapo to a coworker for his kids and itās still working. They serve a purpose, theyāre not the best, but I think theyāre worth the asking price considering the price is less than a 1/3 of what I spend on a trip to the grocery store.
A great little video on why a screen is not always necessarily needed (going from a fairy expensive screen to just the wall) for an amazing image. https://youtu.be/Xaj-xeYFBfo?si=tdUZroN64jRzZ7Sl A darker color will absolutely make a difference for your light spillage...if you want any type of home theater experience with contrast that is quite important. I would even go as far as a carpet for in front of the screen to further reduce that light spillage. https://a.co/d/01CPuaGu If you do not want to paint your walls (which again is not for everyone) then another solution for around the screen and ceiling is this felt which almost completely eliminated all spillage... https://a.co/d/007FwbcR As far as projectors go the 'lifestyle' projectors are absolutely a fantastic product with exceptional image, brightness and clarity. I owned many Epson products including their UB line 5030UB, 5040UB and 5050UB and I have not gone back to those for a reason. JMGO has their upcoming line in the N3 Ultimate that will have optical zoom, optical lens shift and Dolby Vision making it VERY hard to beat.
If you like the 5040, I would say look for a used one. If not, there are some great BenQ projectors out there. BenQ has always offered the best bang for the $. Use the Projector Central find a projector tool to figure out what is a drop in replacement for your Epson. And I wouldnāt pay attention to the laser hype. Bulbs are not expensive compared to the number of hours they last, and do quite well on image quality.
āModernā isnāt always necessary or desirable. Itās not clear to me that projectors need to be refreshed so frequently. If the OP likes the image from his Epson then itās reasonable for him to just keep using (a used replacement for) that model. BenQ prices have gone up consistently for a long time. I think the 2050 was $749 at release. It was the best bang for the buck and was on the market for about 10 years. The 2060 (LED upgrade) was about $1200 and is discontinued already. The X500 (4K replacement for the ST2150) is 50% higher in price. I think this is just a sign of a shrinking market. And I wonder how long these Kickstarter funded companies will remain viable.
