I have a 65"OLED Ambilight TV in the "TV Room" with the Xbox and various other consoles for casual TV watching and gaming; the lag time on the projector can be noticeable. I have an UST projector in the lounge and a 100" ALR screen for movies, with all of the associated home cinema goodies like multi-amps and subwoofers etc. It's a true 4K laser projector which cost about UK£3,000. All of the home cinema electronics are in a rack in the corner of the room and just the projector and centre speaker below the screen, which is mounted as low as I could get it. Ideally, the room should be as dark as possible for the best projector experience. It will be watchable in daylight if bright enough but never as good as a dark room. I have a Philips Hue lamp in the corner which dims to a very dim red colour during movie nights. Sure, the picture from a projector is never going to be as good as for a high-end TV, but the projector gives the best cinema-like experience and atmosphere. I have pretty regular movie night with friends - nobody has ever said "it was ok but not quite enough detail in the shadows"; they love the movie-like experience.
Went from Formovie Theater to Hisense LQ9 and we didn't even realize what we were missing. Such a good upgrade.
FORMOVIE THEATER. Been 3 years already!
Wouldn't recommend anything under $1k but you can get the original Formovie Theater for $2k after taxes. Pretty great projector for the price.
I went with a ForMovie Theater UST projector and a ForMovie 100-inch fresnel screen. It works really well in all lighting conditions. The only issue I have is that my walls aren't really true and it's caused a little bit of hot spotting and I've had to use digital keystone correction, but it's almost unnoticeable. I'm thinking of going with a 120 inch floor mounted screen to correct these small issues but I'm pretty happy and the picture is insanely good.
It is tough to get a bigger size TV in an apartment and or smaller space. Then the question is how do you move it when it is time to leave? Do you have the extra space to store the TV box? I would recommend a Ultra Short Throw projector (dont need to worry about running longer wires with this form factor). Formovie has some great units and with the Formovie Theater Premium out you can get the Formovie Theater for a great price! Then you have to decide on a screen. Fixed or motorized? Motorized will probably be your best bet in terms of being able to move it in the future. But it also depends on your budget. More than happy to help you figure it out! Feel free to DM me.
Check mondoprojos fr . If I remember correctly Gregory has tested both. One of the few real sources with actual test results. I have a Fengmi/formovie cinema 4k pro since 2020 and works flawlessly as a home cinema and main TV.
Hey, not sure if it fits exactly what you are looking for but I've been thinking of upgrading my set-up and would then be looking to sell my Xiaomi 4k UST projector. I'm based in Denmark so not far from Germany. Bought it about 3.5 years ago but it was actually stored for approx. 1 year while I was travelling so effectively 2.5 years use. Either way if has 25000 hours use so won't be running out any time soon. Honestly a fantastic projector, never had any issues with it - only thing you should think about is that it has pretty high input lag, around 100ms. It works for strategy or quiz type games but would not recommend for anything fast paced. Let me know if it's interesting, not looking to make cash on it just hoping it can make a bit of a dent into my planned purchase.
