r/projectorsCMV: Cheap amazon projectors are a pretty decent bang for the bucks and should have a place in this sub for recommendations.

While I understand that there is a HUGE difference in quality, features, longevity, support, etc. between the cheap Chinese random name projectors and high quality name brand stuff there is a place for these products and they aren't all bad. This sub generally shits on them but lots of people don't want to invest $1000s for an occasionally used setup and just dipping a toe in isn't a horrible idea, imo. You absolutely CAN have an enjoyable experience with a $50 low lumen projector even without real keystone as long as it has HDMI and some basic functionality. I have spent many $1000s over decades on HT equipment, set up a decent home theater with 7.1 SS, huge multi-zone AVR with tons of input and switching options, outdoor screens and projectors, hot tub projectors, garage screens and sound systems. I love it all and have enjoyed setting it all up and messing with it but it's really a constant hobby/struggle to keep everything working perfectly, updating firmware, dealing with kids and guests changing inputs or being confused by them, etc. I'm tired of keeping up with it all and just want stuff that works. My wife can't even figure out how to watch tv anymore, lol. You know what gets the most use? My compact $50 projector, that I bought for Halloween, with a builtin 5W speaker on the hot tub cover because it looks pretty great, I don't have to worry about input selections, or powering up amps, and it just works. It's a no name projector I got on sale for like $40 2 years ago and after dark its 90% as good as my nice projector with a speaker system. It's easy to setup, my kids can handle it, AND I don't really care if it breaks, gets splashed or knocked over, etc. I swear I've put over 100 hours on it in 2 years and ZERO problems. I bought a backup of the exact model (slightly newer version) for $50. It just works. Also while I'm at it I rarely use my big yamaha AVR anymore because it's just a hassle. Streamed content, bluetooth speakers, or even a cheap Fosi amp in the garage are soooo much simpler and it just works. I think there is a place for these cheap amazon projectors and everyone doesn't need to invest $1000+ to watch movies in a large format. It's great if you do, but not everyone needs this. It's kind of amazing to me that I can get an HD image at 120in+ of almost any media with a $20 firestick and a $40 projector on a wall. That's a LOT of bang for the buck IMHO.

The one I got was https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0991YNM7B This is the newer version from my time tested one but so far so good. It's more compact but a little brighter (maybe due to the old one being old) but it seems to have the same software and buttons. It's VERY simple but so cheap it's worth the risk IMO. For my hot tub I use a speaker stand and place it a few feet from the hot tub at 5 or 6 ft and project it into the flat grey underside of the hot tube cover which folds up on one side when open making a perfect ~90in diagonal surface. I find the speaker good enough if the jets aren't running if its just my me and the wife. If we have more people or for the kids I used a JBL charge with aux out and its more than loud enough. The bluetooth lags dialog and the cheap projector can't adjust for it so that's a no go. In my garage I use the same one with a $50 fosi audio amp and 2 multidirection speakers to project on a ~150in diagonal pull down screen so we can watch football or movies in the garage/man cave area. My kids love it and again no worried if it burns out or they mess with it. It's obviously not perfect but it's sooo cheap and perfect for something that only gets used occasionally.
