"the Elgato Facecam MK.2 still looked worse and less natural than the Obsbot Meet 2 did straight out of the box for me (for the same price). After browsing a lot of threads too, I'm not the only one. A lot of people are disappointed with the Elgato, and when compared to the Obsbot, it almost always loses"

"It will be an amazing image, and you can tone map HDR content down to SDR - it will look better than your average movie theater."

"NZ700 with its 80000:1 contrast claim is $9-something. ... even the lowest level model comes with 40000:1 contrast and a black level as dark as space compared to the Epson."

"the DLP high frequency flicker gave me a headache after a while. ... the combined effect of each step can be perceived, even if not consciously and causes eye fatigue or headaches for some people. Unfortunately myself included."

"The first projector I ever bought was a Benq ht2050a and it was also the first time I learned I was sensitive to the rainbow effect with DLP. ... Once you see it with DLP it will drive you crazy. ... A dark scene with a flash of white anywhere on the screen and I could see a rainbow inside the white briefly due to the spinning color wheel inside the projector. ... After I looked it up and realized what I was seeing, I would be distracted with anything I watched looking out for it."

"Any of these not have RBE? I have the Valerion and the RBE is very pronounced. ... I seem to be very sensitive to RBE so for me it's bad, like unwatchable bad on some media."

"While, even the BenQ 4550i looked like mud in space scenes and any dark scene."

"I had a 4k pixel shift. BenQ 4550i and while it was a little sharper, I sent it back, and I kept the 5050ub because the contrast was much much better. Contrast is king."

"I ended up keeping the epson 5050ub because the contrast ratio of the epson was light years better then the other 2 projectors. ... Yes, the 4550i had better color and was a little sharper but overall the epson had a much more engaging picture because of the contrast."

"they are tough to position perfectly for a screen since they have no lens shift and no zoom."

"The Hisense C1 is nice, but it has no zoom, so you must be very careful about how you place it in your room."

I’ve had the Hisense C1 for about a year and a half and it’s been excellent. Specs-wise I’m guessing the offering from XGIMI is pretty similar, I was deciding between them myself. Truthfully I think they’re probably all comparable, I don’t think you’d hate any of them unless you saw them side by side with another.

Hisense c1 here, love it. Great bang for buck these days too.

The BenQ HT2060 is the newer version of the HT2050a, and is the best looking 1080p projector on the market. It is bright, and has a sharp image. It's great for home theater. The Hisense C1 is nice, but it has no zoom, so you must be very careful about how you place it in your room.

Nebula and Xgimi mogo2 are objectively worse than HT2050A. Horizon ultra gets much brighter, but the contrast is bad and black are really lifted. If horizon ultra is in your budget then I'd choose the refurbished hisense c1 over that. The improvement of HT2050A over the nebula or mogo2 is going to be much more dramatic than the improvement of c1 over HT2050A though.

\+1 for the Epson HC3800 (= EH-TW7100 here in Europe). Brightness is fine, noise is acceptable and for me the two most important factors are: large lens-shift range (I can shelf-mount the projector close to the top of the screen's height) and the 3LCD technology is completely free of the rainbow effect (as it turned out, I'm super sensitive to RBE: I got a headache after watching a show on the Hisense C1...) I bought and returned 3 other projectors this Christmas until I settled with this (BenQ W1800i: too noisy, Hisense C1: unbearable RBE, Epson HC3700: contrast was not enough for me - the 3800 is just slightly better but it's now in the acceptable range). https://preview.redd.it/d7e7z1jll1re1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b3e5b5b141b0481ce25d12c38a9b34b708259b5b

At $500-600 yes, but $900 you can find refurbished Hisense C1 on eBay for that price, far better. Triple laser, better contrast and colors, not far off in brightness.

I had/have the Benq w1070. It really is a great projector, I recently wanted to upgrade and first bought the Dangbei Mars pro, and honestly I didn't like the colors and everything. I think 4K is overrated. Then I bought the Hisense C1S (in my country it appears as Vidda C1S) so I thought it was worth the upgrade. But it's not like it's twice as good as the image.

Definitely not the C1, that would be a significant downgrade in brightness. The C2 is an upgrade in some areas, but unless he goes up to the ultra, the other c2 models would have trade offs and not have a definitive edge. The ultra would for sure outperform it though in all areas.

I’ve got the Hisense C1 and it’s awesome for the price. But having said that, I’ve not had a lamp one but laser seems to be the future

r/projectors • 1st time buying a projector - is laser just better than lamp? ->
