Went from Formovie Theater to Hisense LQ9 and we didn't even realize what we were missing. Such a good upgrade.

Brightness and colors are just noticeably better. When trying to make it work with my surround sound system, I thought it was working out of the box at first but realized it's sound was actually that good. Great positional audio. Not as good as having dedicated sub and height speakers but I was shocked how good that sound was.

Fyi if you're considering tri laser projector like l9q, better check your sensitivity to rbe, speckle and metamerism before committing. Also, tri laser don't do well with alr screen so for screen you'll need to sample first too.

Will the room still be dark while using the projector? If not, get ust + alr screen. Can check out hisense l9q

I have had the 5050ub since 2022, and I agree with you, it’s kept me satisfied all this time. I’m glad I went with it back then because it’s held up really well especially considering how quickly display technology is evolving. If I were to upgrade, it would be for 120 fps, higher lumens and better darks. I also can’t get 150” in my current setup, so I’m leaning towards UST. All my research points towards the Hisense L9Q for the best of everything. The L9Q would actually fit within your budget

I am prone to seeing RBE, since the days of DLP rear projection TV. So I know what you mean. If you want to try another laser projector, that has none of those effects, try the Nexigo AP MK2. Since the MK2 has a 4th light (LED), it "cleans" up the RBE and laser speckles I currently have the MK2 and the L9Q sitting in the living room for comparison. But if RBE and Laser speckles bother you a LOT... try the MK2.

If you are looking specifically to spend over $5k, then yes, it is the best UST at that price point. Is it the "best" projector for your specific case? That is another question. Specifically speaking about UST; the L9Q is ideal in a bright room where all of the horsepower that it produces is needed, however for viewing in a traditional theater environment where the extra brightness is not needed and you may be chasing a lower black floor, the the Hisense PX3-PRO is an extremely versatile machine that is a happy medium. We're hosting the 2025 UST Showdown on 11/8/25 and the L9Q, PX3-Pro and several others that have been/will be mentioned will all be put up against the L9Q with its latest firmware being released early next week. When speaking about "any" projector over $5,000 - the answer is no. Not because the L9Q is a bad projector, but there are many much more premium and expensive options available above that price point.

Hisense l9q (UST) can easily do a 150” image and has plenty of light to support it.

If gaming then there is really one option if budget is not a care. The Sony Bravia 7. Only regular throw projector that does 4K120 with a low lag time compared to the JVC. But if gaming isn’t a huge focus then really the top end JVC. If UST then for movie the Nexigo Aurora MK II. For gaming and movie the Hisense L9Q.

Ok, I just saw a couple videos from CES tonight and according to the Texas Instruments rep at CES the L9Q uses the new SST DMD and it is 0.47" chip. However, from the forums there were complaints that the L9Q did not reach the claimed contrast Hisense had advertised but it did reach the brightness (or close enough). To me that implies the DMD delivered the light as expected but the light dump was worse in the L9Q. Going forward I'm pretty excited for the new to DMD and driver that should bring higher brightness and 4k@120 hz.

It is as long as you use an alr screen, ust doing great! The newer are even better then the „old“ formovie theater! :) Hisense l9q + special screen seems promising with 1500 nits :D its pretty bright! :) Formovie theater pro is great as well! BUT… hisense has an low distance to the wall like epson :D (formovie needs a lil range most regular furniture wont fit without an extension —> slider)

Also that cabinet is going to shorten the life of your projector. It seems like it's blocking the side vents. On my Hisense UST the manual says to allow like 8" inches of airflow on each side.
