The HY320 'pro', the 1080p variant, which is the more expensive variant than then cheapoo 720p HY300, is actually much better and has much less issues of 'burning in'. I think it's a fantastic gateway projector. It's hard to plop down 500$ for an entry level projector which you aren't sure is for you, but one would be a lot more keen on it after experiencing what's it like with a cheapo 100$ projector that mostly can inform you on what a good one would do for you.
r/hometheater • So You’re Thinking About Switching to a Projector? ->I was team OLED since the beginning of the technology, so when i moved into getting a proper TV instead of the small IPS rectangles i used to have, a 55 inch Panasonic OLED was the shit. I greatly enjoyed my TV. However, my partener had some surgery and health issues so i ended up spending more time at her TV-less, projector-less place, just shuffling a 24 inch pc monitor around. In the end we decided to dump 100$ on the very popular 1080p Alliview/Magcubic HY320. This was my first encounter with a short throw projector for a room and while picture quality and contrast and black detail were not exactly what i was used to, there definitely was a quality of its own to shoot a 120 inch diagonal image on a random white wall 3 meters away. Enough that i started looking at and researching laser projectors and have been eyeing out even some of those "retro" projectors which can be sat right next to the wall they're projecting on. We're not gonna switch just now to anything, but we've learned to adjust our expectations. We've learned that some media works better than others for the current projector. We can happily watch anything that doesn't have a lot of dark scenes or deep blacks, but we keep certain movies, say the John Wick franchise, to watching at my place on the OLED as they'd be unwatchable on the current projector. Of course, we also learned that our cheap projector is relatively unusable during daylight. Sure, we can /see/ the things happening but we can't enjoy the experience. But that's not as big of a deal given daytime working and such.Gaming also works, though the lag isn't great (heard its a firmware issue but also the most recent firmware is burning screens as its linearily tying backlight power with fan speed lol). But all in all, i'm glad i paid 100$ for the ability to learn that projectors can be really good nowdays, and that perfect blacks isn't the end all be all necessarily. I still love my TV and seeing Arcane S02 on it with full Dolby Vision HDR was phenomenal, but there is something to be said about the immersion of your vision being so 'taken over' by the content.
r/projectors • So You’re Thinking About Getting a Projector? ->All I need is to find a way to brighten the picture. I bought 4. One to keep and 3 as gifts. I am so embarrassed that the settings don't allow any color or brightness adjustments. We have to be completely in the dark to watch anything and it's still too dark to even see facial features in movies... especially night scenes
r/projectors • I bit the bullet and bought one of the mega cheap projectors ->I got a cheap projector (hy320) for $50 and found it great for the money. For a bit of outdoor cinema or fun gaming / movie night with the kids it’s good value. Of course it has lots of issues , but the cheap ones have their place too.
r/hometheater • So You’re Thinking About Switching to a Projector? ->This guys videos are golden and since i live in a 3rd country i settled for the hy320 cause i can't find a groview here is a video with a slightly more budget. Other than that you can also use a samsung freestyle. https://youtu.be/vHmy8sobWEc
r/projectors • Time to upgrade my ceiling projector – need suggestions! ->I've tried it with the HY-320 and it's unplayable, too much input lag.
r/PS3 • PS3 X Mini Projector! ->In the past, that brand made quality things like VHS video players, radio cassettes, etc... Today, it seems they have only put their brand on a Chinese projector... It only has 200 lumens so you can only use it at night or in rooms with very little light. It says it's 1080 full HD, but I honestly don't believe it. Just looking at the remote control suggests the quality of the projector. In recent years I have tried several Chinese projectors and although the specifications promise a lot, the truth is different... Most have plastic lenses that cannot focus the image well. For example, I bought a magcubic hy320 and if you focus on the center, the corners go out of focus and vice versa. It is better that you buy a projector, even if it is used cheaply, from a recognized brand such as Epson, Benq, Optoma...
r/projectors • Review for projector Blaupunkt ->"I just loved the HY300 PRO and HY320, Gys! Both are Chinese, and there's no brand, lol. You can find good prices on Shopee for around $40–$50. They’re not disposable—I’ve had mine for two years. The best part is that you can buy five of them, and it’ll still be a good deal, tho!"
r/projectors • Looking for a mini projector - not too expensive but not silly disposable junk ->Hi so you bought hy450? I have HY320 and lot of problems with dust (it was like that 3 weeks after i buy it), does the HY450 have te same problem?
r/projectors • Any Magcubic HY450 experiences here? ->Grab a cheap HY320 - then decide what it lacks that you want and go from there. That's been my journey. Those HY's are like 40$ online and it will give you a chance to see what things are important to you, etc. Plus it's a really fun projector for outside, etc. It's not gonna impress a "home cinema" enthusiast, but just for regular folks it's a good starting point IMO. Look at my post history if you think I'm just talking ass :P
r/projectors • In need of a good projector with zoom function under $250 ->I recommend a super cheap Chinese HY320 for $50 on amazon before you decide if a projector will work for you on the daily. Trust me. It isn’t amazing but using a projector daily has so many pros and cons and investing before you test drive is a bit worrisome. I just bought a Nexigo Trivision Ultra, but I needed to know if it was worth getting that over an LG C4 OLED TV for me. Don’t get any screens or anything. $50 is less than a video game but you will know what you are getting yourself into.
