I tried the PJ40 Pro for a week and honestly, it was decent for $251 all in (had a discount at the time) and the fan is quiet as long as you keep the brightness on a lower setting (still plenty bright in a dark room). I’d recommend it to anyone wanting to get into the game to try something new/cheap with a warranty. I believe that video near the end has some calibration for the PJ40 that makes a huge difference as well. I valued portability, so I went with a Mars 3 Air which I find satisfactory for our use case at the moment. Once the kiddos outgrow the basement (recently finished and set up with their gymnastics equipment) then it’s go time to get a permanent/legit setup.

Even living with a basic nexigo pj40 for a few months i know my current upgrade will have to include a projector. When it comes to films, it changes the whole experience, makes it special again. I’ll be keeping the old TV on one side of the living room for the kids and gaming but I’ve set aside the biggest wall for projected UST image and had all the surround sound cables chased into the walls accordingly.

A £250 Nexigo PJ40 is more than usable, the fan is a pain in the ass though

NexiGo PJ40. It's $250 (usd). Have one myself and it's great for the price. Haven't gamed on it but it does claim 16 ms low latency gaming mode.

I agree 100% about this sub and I also have a PJ40. I pledged on Kickstarter almost a year ago for the Valerion Max and my (lamp based) BENQ HT3550 developed multiple issues so I got the PJ40 just to get me through and I have to say for the price the image quality is impressive, it is brighter than my BenQ was (even with a new lamp) it starts up within a few seconds vs about a minute and the color is good, not great but if you had nothing to compare it to you wouldn’t really have anything to complain about. The main issue with this and other lower priced PJs is how long it will last. Once the LCD gets burned out it’s pretty much e waste at that point and Reddit is littered with people saying how theirs didn’t last very long. That said if you aren’t planning on using it everyday for years and years it’s awesome gaming or watching movies on a huge screen. If you’re not ready to repair it in the next year or possibly two I’d go with a TV.

As a Nexigo PJ40 pwner, its ass. Look, for the price is okay at best, but you're much better off actually soending some cash to get quality, otherwise you might as well pay a minimum as it'll be a much better price-quality conversion.

So, both projectors have 2 completely different uses, but one is still superior imo and here's why. 1: the pj40 is VERY limited on brightness. Even in a dim room, 700 lumens is simply not a lot of light, and no matter how you cut it, you need light to create a watchable and enjoyable image. 2: the pj40 is lacking in terms of simple flexibility options, such as optical lens shift which makes placement very easy. 3: the Epson, side by side, looks like a normal TV vs a project somebody built for a school project. The picture is leagues above in nearly all aspects. Don't look into contrast and think " it's better because blacks" were not talking OLED vs tn. often times the actual output of the projector and it's specs aren't commensurate. Best examples can be seen in the few most recent "the hookup" videos. A high contrast projector with low brightness just turns into a washed out mess in most lighting conditions even with the best screens. 4: I am completely unworried about lamp lifetime with these prices. Remember that the spec for the Epson is quoted to 75% or 50% brightness, both of which would still leave you over double the light output ability of the pj40 brand new out of the box. These projectors are meant to be used and abused, and for that purpose, the Epson is also the best built of the 2 by a far margin. I'm more confident in the Epson actually making it to 12k+ hours vs the pj40 which has a plentiful field of posts here on Reddit of dead, dying, or burned units. My Epson has been living in a go bag between meetings and shows for over 2 years and has spent most of its time being banged around, or blasting full brightness onto large hall screens with minimal care or setup. 5: the Epson can be used in full daylight indoors. The pj40 would be unwatchable in this condition. This alone makes the Epson more usable as it's able to provide the big picture, not only in a pitch black room. Tldr, the Epson is better because of its versatility and attention to build. It's not a 1 trick pony, or a pitch black bedroom projector. It's a proper, everyday usable projector at a damn low price for the performance. Biggest con? 210w needed. Want to use with a battery bank? Gonna need a big one.

I just bought a used Epson EH-TW5600 for £200 and I'm really happy with it. I had a Nexigo pj40 off of Amazon for £280 for about a week and it was very comparable in performance, but the Epson definitely is a bit better picture wise

Second the PJ40. Got a used like new for 175 on amazon last summer mainly for a movie room setup and it doubles great as a sim projector. Easy to use/setup, it's really bright even with full lights on.

Careful, this sub generally is useless on cheap projectors lol lots of people will tell you not to bother. Personally I got the NexiGo PJ40 for occasional use and it's great for my needs. I have a nice TV for my all the time so I use it outside at night and randomly inside. The Hook Up YouTube channel has a lot of reviews where he actually buys and tests projectors in a large price range so I'd check out his more recent videos. Good luck!
