The Sony XW6100 has input lag under 12ms and is an absolute beast for brightness and color.

Projectors are all prices. You can get cheap temu e-waste under $100 all the way up to $30k+ from JVC/Sony "High-end" projectors start around $6k. You also need to buy a screen, which runs $500-$3500 for something quality. Sony offers a Bravia 8 Projector. It's $19k Yes, the room needs to be dark. Some projectors are brighter than others but at the end of the day your image is going to suffer with light in the room. They're great for dedicated HT spaces but less great for living rooms. It's preferable to have the ceiling and wall black or dark grey. Yes, standard-throw projectors are better image quality than short-throw. Yes you could mount a tv behind a motorized screen and have two sources, but it seems like a waste. Save the money on the motorized screen and tv and just get a projector that does what you need it to. Input lag and motion handling are traditionally the projector pain points but these can both be overcome with money.

At below $20k, I'd suggest the JVC NZ800 or Sony Bravia 8 projector for a dark, dedicated room. If you need a lot of light output to deal with ambient light, the new Epson QL3000 may be the best for you. I am familiar with all 3 and happy to get into details if you'd like; DM me.

Have not :( I have the nz900 and Bravia 8 right now; never had the nz800 and Bravia at the same time. Now that Cyber week is over, we’ll be taking some side by side pics this week.

I think the AVR and Projector screen are a little high depending on what they have picked out. Is it going to be a fixed screen or a drop down? Black ash subwoofer seems like its an SVS, so they are likely matching the in ceilings to match that quality. If you want it done for less, buy your own equipment, and have them install it or find another company that will. Sony makes a great 4k laser for about 5k so that will cut the cost dramatically

God no!! Upgrade to one of the laser based 4k projectors! My fav is the Sony, but there are several to choose from. I think you’d be so disappointed losing that much screen! It’d feel like….. you know, A TV instead of a theater!

I went the open box route, got a 4K Sony and never looked back. Sony optics and picture processing are the best available and their projectors are true 3-chip systems and native 4k.

Epson will be brightest and average contrast and blacks. Sony will be less bright but better contrast. JVC is lowest brightness but incredible blacks and contrast. Pick what you prefer.
