Based on 1 year's data from Mar 18, 2026 How it works
Almost 8 years ago I purchased a Vankyo Passport M50 pico projector to travel with and it had smart functionality built in. Cost me MAYBE $200 for the thing and it had a built in battery too. However, in my travels, the issues became more prevalent. Whenever you plug anything into HDMI, you lose all keystone and image self tilting funtionality. There was always an issue with it being too dim. Speakers were WAY TOO QUIET. Had to use a bluetooth external speaker. Plugged it into a battery bank even....but it just always needed something more to work so although very few times it was wonderful, it was missing on so many points. THEN THE GOOGLE PLAY STORE APPS SLOWLY STOPPED SUPPORTING THE DEVICE ONE BY ONE. ....even Netflix stopped supporting the device. Now it was going to need a streaming device connected via HDMI, which does what? Disables tilt and keystone functions. As I scoured the web for a newer one with enhanced features/functionality or a laser bulb....there were none. However, once I hit the $500 price point, I was able to find SO MUCH CHOICE/SELECTION.... Then I found the ForMovie S5. Only 2x the size of my pico projector, but instead of 100ansi lumens, I got 500 ISO lumens. Connects to power via USB-C so I bought a battery bank with a little more power so it can run for 3hrs straight without an outlet. No more bluetooth speaker needed because the built in speaker made by Denon is GREAT for the size of the device! Combine that with a much better wireless remote and autofocus, keystone, and auto tilt adjustment WITH HDMI plugged in....I haven't looked back nor do I regret at all spending the sale price of $350 that I got it for. Dolby Vision HDR support, low input lag for casual gaming, and a laser sharp image thanks to the laser instead of the regular bulb. Definitely be willing to "Buy Nice. Not Twice" when researching a projector that you are going to use OFTEN. I would NOT recommend a $90 projector as someone's daily use (for TV, YouTube, Netflix, etc) projector. I am on year 3 with this projector and am SUPER happy with it ESPECIALLY after finding out HOW GOOD the image looks on a plain, white PVC Fence in a backyard. Even better than the cloth screen we got for it! My vote is spend more unless it's an "impulse buy" for you.
