Viewsonic X1 is great bang for buck
View sonic X1 for 4k gaming
Well, I got a Viewsonic X1-Pro 4K on February this year, I really like the performance, image is very good, brightness is also great, I use it in Eco mode so almost no noise, BUT 2 weeks ago it started showing some lines in the screen, next day also showing some dead pixeles; I opened the case , support responded in 10 mins asking for a pic of the issue, I sent them a short video, after 1 hour they told me that based on the video they will send me a replacement, (I asked if will be a new projector, they said they only replace with refurbished ones), next day the shipped the replacement. Right now I'm using the "new" one it is working great, but I don't like the idea that the original one lasted only 5 months... support has been great so far, but now I'm tempted to try the Valerion or Nexigo.
About half a year ago I went projector shopping in the **€800–€2000** range, and honestly it was a painful experience. AI recommendations weren’t reliable, Reddit/forums were either quiet or US-focused, and it felt like every “top pick” either didn’t exist in Europe or wasn’t worth the money. # The main problems I ran into (EU-specific) 1. **Too many lamp-based models.** In this price bracket, an annoying number of “popular” projectors still use traditional lamps. That means eventual bulb replacements, brightness/color drift over time, and generally worse convenience than modern laser/LED solutions. With EU mercury restrictions tightening, betting on lamp tech now feels like buying into a dead-end. 2. **Review black hole + model name chaos.** A lot of the best-known recommendations are US models or rebrands. Example: the **BenQ HT2060** gets praised constantly, but it’s basically **not a normal EU purchase**. Importing is expensive, and many sellers look sketchy. 3. **Mediocre performance for the price.** I kept seeing the same pattern: big brands (BenQ/Epson/Sony) asking premium money for “fine” projectors, while similar—or better—spec sheets exist elsewhere for much less (especially in Asia/US markets). Even when specs look comparable, EU pricing often isn’t. 4. **A pile of smaller annoyances.** Firmware quirks, regional app limitations, HDR marketing vs real tone mapping, fan noise, input lag uncertainty, unclear brightness measurements, and wildly inconsistent reviewer methodology. I could write a separate post just about that. # What I found in the EU (realistically) In my price range, the shortlist was surprisingly small: * **XGIMI** options (e.g., Horizon Pro) * **ViewSonic** options (e.g., X1 4K Pro) * **Hisense** options (C1/C2 series like the C2 Ultra) * From more “traditional” reputable EU channels, one of the few that felt easy to buy locally was **BenQ TK710**—but for *my* priorities (especially color coverage), it felt like a step down versus some newer laser units while costing the same or more. # What I bought (and why) I originally planned to go “safe” and get the **Hisense C2 (standard)**. While researching, I bumped into comparisons with the **Vidda C3** and realized: * **Vidda is essentially Hisense’s China-market brand/sub-brand**, and * the value proposition looked ridiculous on paper: high brightness, modern laser light source, strong HDR format support (including Dolby Vision), IMAX Enhanced branding, solid built-in audio, optical zoom, and a “loaded” feature set. After some deliberation—and accepting the **risk of limited/no local warranty**—I bought a **Vidda C3 Ultra** for about **€1100 (you can get one from Alibaba for 1250$)**. That’s the kind of price where many EU-available options felt like they delivered *maybe* 60–70% of the experience for **€1600+**. # Early impressions (short-term only) I’ve only had it a short time, so this isn’t a long-term reliability review. But so far it’s been excellent: * **Daytime viewing:** with curtains open (no direct sunlight), it’s shockingly usable—honestly closer to an average LCD monitor than I expected from a projector. * **Night viewing:** contrast and “pop” can get into “OLED-adjacent” territory *for a projector* (obviously not identical, but it feels premium). * **Audio:** the built-in speakers genuinely outperform a typical €100 portable speaker (I compared it to an Anker Motion 300), and it feels like you don’t *need* external speakers on day one. * **Usability:** the built-in system is China-focused, but menus are in English. I just treat it like a display: plug in a TV stick / PC / console and you’re done. # Practical advice if you’re considering the same route * Decide upfront what matters most: **brightness in real rooms**, **color accuracy**, **black levels**, **throw distance**, **fan noise**, **input lag**, and whether you need **optical zoom** (it’s a lifesaver if placement isn’t perfect). * If importing a China-market model: plan for **warranty risk**, **returns being painful**, possible **region-locked apps**, and potential quirks with firmware updates. If you’re okay using an external streamer, most of those issues become irrelevant. That’s it. I’m sharing this because I wish I’d found a post like this when I was stuck in the EU projector rabbit hole.
Fair point I was also thinking about doing the same thing, but the cheapest C2 Ultra I could find was 1799€ (maybe I was looking at the wrong time). Either way the difference was 700€. I decided that I could almost buy a second one for the price I am saving. And the increase is actually not incremental. It's definitely not as huge as going from c1 to c2 ultra etc... But the new laser technology actually adds a decent amount at least what I did was watch a bunch of Chinese reviews (using AI to translate), and a lot of them compared those two. It's a good bit brighter it has newer laser has much better contrast, and less issues with speckles from what I seen. But in your place I would have bought the C2 ultra too. You made a great decision I hope you are happy with what you got. I got Google 4k streamer which is a bit more powerful and I can't compare it to their own output, maybe you just need to play with the settings a bit. I spent like good 8 hours playing with settings when I first got it until I got the picture I like ( compared it to the OLED Monitor, tried to get as close as I can), and I think I am 95% there. Also this is Risky, but at least with older models it's possible to flash English firmware to Vidda, but huge chance to brick it, and firmware is hard to get, so I would not consider this is an option. Either way. Hope you are happy with your purchase, if you have any tips or tricks please share.
Hi, sorry for late reply. 1. The stick does not seem to reduce quality but it really loves playing at 24hz from the stick, at first it was a bit noticeable then I got used to it, but running from pc is definitely smoother. And yes the audio can still go trough an external speaker. Via bluetooth or hdmi earc 2.I use it on the wall for now, but I was planning to get a screen, but I ma having doubts as the thing is too bright even now I run it at 50% brightness, and the wall is so uniform it's basically like cheap screen already. SO besides lowering the reflected amount of light I don't see much purpose right now, but that might change over time
Viewsonic x1 4k pro was my second choice if I could not get Hisense C3 ultra. Give it a look.
I have the viewsonic x1-4k that’s native 4K, but as TechNick says, 3D is only 1080p. I even have to set my mediacenter output to Full-hd for the 3D-option to appear inte the projector menu. .corrected spelling.
I played a couple of racing games on my racing wheel I have the ViewSonic X1 which has a lower latency than most projectors. It worked fine but I was playing far rather than close since my system is a regular throw projector. If you want something close I would get an ultra short throw so your setup could be close to the screen without shadows.
I have 1440p 165hz 1ms monitor, got a viewsonic x1 4k projector; 4k 60hz 16ms, last week. Tried some gaming on projector and did not see a difference between 1ms and 16ms. Though I do not play any competitive nor shooter games, they might have affects on such games dont know.
