Hi all, I recently received the XGIMI Halo+ (new) from XGIMI, and am excited to review it for you today. All opinions in this review are my own. The XGIMI Halo+ (new) is a 1080p, DLP projector listed by XGIMI to produce 700 ISO lumens of brightness and have a battery life of 2.5 hours. This projector uses Google TV and comes with licensed Netflix, along with most other streaming apps. I can confirm that Netflix works right out of the box. Image quality and brightness - The XGIMI Halo+ (new) produces a bright and crisp 1080p image. The image is clear and detailed from 40-100" (I do not have space to test a larger image). Colours are saturated and there is sufficient contrast to see details in darker scenes. Furthermore, there is a fair bit of image customization that can be done, including colour balance, gamma, motion sensitivity, and more. This projector is also capable of accepting an HDR signal, which does seem to produce a bit more "pop" in the image. This is most notable when watching HDR content on Netflix. For an example of image quality, here is a comparison of the same scene from Crash Landing on You (streaming on Netflix), with a 60" image, corresponding to the labelled images: - medium ambient light, battery powered (image 3) - medium ambient light, plugged in (image 4) - low ambient light, battery powered (image 5) - low ambient light, plugged in (image 6) At this size of image, all are sufficiently watchable. However, in "medium" ambient light, there is a clear difference in colour and detail reproduction when switching from battery power to plugged in. In my opinion, there is not too much of a noticeable difference in detail and colour reproduction in low or no ambient light when using battery power or having the projector plugged in. For another comparison, here is the same scene from Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring (streaming on Prime video) at 100": Medium ambient light, battery powered (image 7) Medium ambient light, plugged in (image 8) Low ambient light, battery powered (image 9) Low ambient light, plugged in (image 10) At this size with ambient light, the image is fairly washed out on battery power, which is to be expected. Plugging in the projector does produce a noticeable jump in brightness and makes it suitable for casual viewing. However, in low ambient lighting, the difference between battery powered and plugged in is a bit more apparent at a larger screen size. While both images appear equally bright, you can see how the colours really pop at 100" plugged in with low ambient light, and the colour gamut seems wider and more vibrant. That being said, the difference between battery powered and plugged in at low ambient light is not immediately obvious unless comparing them side-by-side. Sound performance - This projector can get quite loud. I cannot imagine wanting to use this at over 50% volume. I have the dialogue enhancer set to high, which produces clear dialogue with great background. Bass can be loud at times, without losing detail in the rest of the sound. When testing this projector at 25% volume, I was still able to hear the bass from the projector when moving to another room. Features - The three features I was most excited for, and in my opinion are necessary for the projector to function as anything more than a projector that remains permanently in one spot, were brightness, flawless keystone correction, and battery life. As previously discussed, this projector produces a crisp, bright image from 40-100" as tested. However, this projector really comes alive when it is used as a portable projector. Streaming Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring (on Prime video) at 25% volume, I managed to get 2h45m of playback time using the battery. This, in tandem with the brightness and auto keystone correction, allow for tremendous flexibility of use. XGIMI says on their website that the auto keystone correction should work consistently at up to 40° off angle, and I have found this to be accurate in my usage. As a result, when not using the projector as a "home cinema" projector, I find myself using the projector as a portable 40" image projector while doing things such as eating or cleaning. At 40" on battery power, the projector produces an image that is more than sufficiently bright to watch in areas with high ambient light. It is therefore quite easy to find a spot to put the projector, using the built-in kickstand as necessary, and watch YouTube, TV shows, or movies for a casual viewing experience. When finished your tasks, you can then transition to a low- or no-ambient light room and throw a 100" image that is more than bright enough on battery power. Overall user experience Overall, I have been very happy with the Halo + (new), especially the keystone correction and brightness when using battery power. One flaw that I have found with this projector is that the OS can be slow to respond to commands from the remote. Furthermore, at times the projector can lose focus for 5 seconds before correcting itself, although this only seems to happen when scrolling menus. With that being said, given how light the projector is (1.6 kg), the consistency of the keystone correction, and the brightness, I find myself regularly using this projector as a replacement for watching videos on my phone or tablet, while also using it to watch movies or TV shows at 90-100".
r/budgetprojectors • XGIMI Halo+ (new) Review ->I bought the Mogo 3 Pro a few months ago and I'm really happy I got it. It projects images up to 200" and is very bright for a projector of that price. Before I had a Halo+ which was a little brighter but I didn't find any big differences
r/budgetprojectors • Looking for a projector under $400 for movies & gaming ->the question is very generic. it depends on what you mean by mini projector. I now use an XGimi MoGo 3 pro. but I also had Halo +. going up in budget there is the Horizon series which is still very compact
r/projectors • Best mini projector with highest resolution? ->I have owned a Xgimi Halo+ and I can tell you that it is really a great projector for your needs, easy to carry and versatile thanks to the built-in battery. It also has a really powerful sound
r/budgetprojectors • Portable projector recommendation (US) ->For the same needs as you, I bought an xgimi mogo 3 pro (before I bought a Halo+). They are both portable projectors that you can use even without external devices because they have Google TV as an operating system with Netflix support (in the case of Halo+ there is the latest that supports it, it is called Halo+ New). Also take a look at the XGIMI Portable Screen. I am waiting for it to be available in Europe
r/budgetprojectors • Outdoor Projector Recommendations! ->You should check out the XGIMI Halo+New with multi-angle stand. Built in battery, has HDMI port. Or if you can get your hands one somehow, an XGIMI Elfin Flip Pro which has a built-in battery and HDMI as well. Both should be brighter than your Samsung Freestyle Gen 1.
r/budgetprojectors • Smart mini projector recommendation ->The Horizon S Pro isn’t a bad projector at all, gorgeous and vibrant image quality. I do find it more tricky to line the screen up, and the stand that XGIMI makes for it, is one of the worst quality pieces of high priced equipment that I’ve ever had. Compared to the C2’s Vidaa OS, the Xgimi’s Android TV is horrid it response. I knew it was sluggish and clunky feeling, but I didn’t know how bad it was until I got the C2. It’s doable, just extremely clunky. And having a non backlit remote trying to clunk through the menu’s during the night is a headache until you get use to it. I also have the Halo+ New, and even with that one running Google tv, it’s just something with these XGIMI projectors that just makes using the software part a clunky experience. Image quality wise they are excellent, even on the Halo+. That’s if you can get them lined up properly, and get past the clunky Os. Sound quality is decent for the price range that it’s in, some movies can sound muffled out more than others, but you can adjust it a bit. I ended up using a Bluetooth soundbar, the S Pro does have a sync feature to help combat the sound delay, but I feel it moves the adjustment in the wrong direction. I ended up hooking up an Apple TV to the projector and used Apples sync as it’s much better if you want to use an external speaker. The only other gripe is the lack of ports, I wish it had just one more HDMI, and a 3.5mm jack bare minimum extra. But that’s about it and it all drove my curiosity towards the C2 Ultra eventually. . The C2 Ultra is double the price, and it should feel a bit more premium as it does, but I’m sure the cheaper C2, and the C2 pro would feel just as premium as the Ultra in the price range closer to the Max. Without question, the C2 ultra has everything that I felt was missing from the XGIMI, it’s snappy, beautiful image, back lit remote, ports galore, and sounds great. Though I’ll still end up using an external speaker as I just like my sound coming from the image side of life. However, If I didn’t know it was better out there, I would have been perfectly fine with the S pro. As long as you get it for the sale price. https://preview.redd.it/e49ysi2u7e5f1.jpeg?width=5584&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9bd105a6dae97d893c0117770367165f13bd4431
r/projectors • Just Upgrade from Epson 2150 to Hisense C2 Pro Wow! 🤯 ->If you wanna go for xgimi and sub 1000£ I would advice to not take the mogo series and go for the Halo+ (new). That’s the one I bought and it has way more lumen. (But note that at that level of lumen, you will need to be in a dark room) The halo+ new has better quality, sound and battery than the mogo series. It’s also better in some ways than the old halo+ (it have MEMC). It just doesn’t have a licensed Netflix but since you have an Apple TV it won’t be an issue (btw Google or android tv OS are so bad compared to Apple’s TVOS anyway)
r/projectors • Best home (dumb) projector? ->if you can even conisder the th575 then you should get it. if portability was ever a concern for you you would have been looking for portable projectors in the first place. the xgimi halo+ is a pprtable projector for people that use it then put it away ot you can use it to trace art onto a wall and stuff. for these sort of use cases these portable ones are great but the price to performance in terms of image quality is low. you should just get a non portbale unit. portable dlp projectors arent meant to last years. if you use it like a tv as your primary way to consume media and news in a room like up to around 8 hours a day, the chip starts failing and stars will show up or, the cooling system will get too filled with dust and you will need cleaning inside it for it to not shut down from overheating. trying to repair these small units usually end up in damaging them or making no difrence. the tolerances are low on and you never can really reach the factory quality and efficiency back for the cooling. a quick search will lead you to failures of dlp portable projecotrs such as these. but most people have no issue with that sinsce they already wanted to upgrade anyway and 2 years of constant use is "ok" for nowadays tech meanwhile most tech products of 15 years ago is still workign today wit no maintanance but thats a whole other story. also this lifespan issue isnt dedicated to any brand or model. just the limitation of trying to mak eit as small as possible. all brands making these use designs with close to no serviceability, and they dont consider dust accumulation and aging. it will only last the waranty period.
r/budgetprojectors • XGIMI Halo+ (new) Review ->I own a jmgo n1s 4k for a week now. And i have to say iam very impressed! The beamer i had before was the Xgimi Halo + and i need to say there are worlds between them. But i have a problem and maybe you can help: I connect the jmgo with my pioneer vsx-329 so that i have the sound on my 5.1 system. But the sound lags. it stocks and i dont know what the problem is.. with my TV ARC is working fine.
r/budgetprojectors • JMGO N1S 4K In-Depth Review - Everything You Need To Know Here! ->It's tough to find a portable option in this price range that you can use during the daytime. In the afternoon and afterwards is more what you're likely to get for your budget, I think. I have both the XGIMI Halo+ and planning to get the new smaller one Mogo 4 - i beleive those two are among the best you can get in your price range.
r/projectors • Oudoor Summer Projector ->XGMI Halo+ is small and I was impressed with its function. It sounds like it would fit your ideal apart for the price - which, as others have pointed out, is going to get you junk.
r/projectors • Looking for a mini projector - not too expensive but not silly disposable junk ->Hello, I'm using a halo+ for that, but i recently got a xgimi mogo 3 pro which work fine in this situation, too. we might even have the same situation here, as this is my balcony with a roof. on the left i can additionaly darken the balcony even more if needede https://preview.redd.it/dsk3wd1zcloe1.png?width=1432&format=png&auto=webp&s=cc7515fa4402b929cbc1b4895eb4bd7f7a9b2bfe
r/budgetprojectors • Portable Projector for Balcony Use – Bright Enough for Afternoon ->I wouldn't get anything with a 0.23" DMD. They've got something that looks like really bad screen-door effect. You need 0.33" DMD at minimum which would be Xgimi Halo. All of these options have a third the brightness, worse quality optics, no optical adjustments, etc. You'd be better off with a used older model 1080p DLP
r/projectors • Led/Laser projector under 800 in Europe? ->All of the 1080p XGMI projectors are very good... Especially the HALO or Elfin ranges.
r/projectors • Looking for a mini projector - not too expensive but not silly disposable junk ->Xgimi has certified refurbished Halo+ units on eBay for $549 (arguably better than the "New" version because it has MEMC, 3D, and Dolby DTS. Only benefit the "New" version has is being Netflix certified), and they are accepting offers of $499. It comes with a 2 year warranty through eBay as part of their certified refurbished benefits program. That's what I just bought, and then bought a few accessories like a power bank to be able to run it on standard mode without being plugged into the wall and a travel case to keep it all in one place. https://preview.redd.it/q3eo6l81y1ue1.jpeg?width=3418&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d3bd6e293b6c6007b320e7cc8d4f3773d6ba23f6
r/budgetprojectors • Portable projector recommendation (US) ->Just picked up the XGIMI Halo+ (New) and paired it with their Portable Outdoor Screen — honestly a killer combo. Runs Google TV, so no issues with streaming apps at all. And the built-in battery is a game changer for outdoor movie nights. Total vibe.
r/budgetprojectors • [USA] Outdoor Projector for Movie Nights ->Yes absolutely. I'm in the projector game only for three days... Beginning with an Xgimi Halo+ (1080p) nearly instantly to an Optoma UHD. The difference is night and day. I sit 3 meters away from a 2,66m width screen. But even a 4K projector doesn't come close to my 75inch TV in sharpness. Edit: and yes i know the Optoma is only pixel shift. But it's way sharper than the Xgimi 1080p.
r/projectors • Is a 4 K projector worth it? ->Hi guys, I've done a bunch of scouring on here already to answer most of my own questions on the subject, however i'm trying to get some opinions on a projector setup to make a home cinema in my living room from those of you who have much more knowledge than me. I'll give a detailed spec of what I want to achieve and what I have so hopefully you can all better advise. Any and all opinions are welcome. Living room measures: 3.7M Wide (12.1 feet) 3.5M Deep (11.4 feet) Currently have a 65" 4k backlit tv which although large gives the typical washed out blacks. I want to change to a projector and screen for that big screen feel and though I considered buying a larger size OLED the price shift on the larger panels is more than I want to spend. Plus they're a bitch to move around. I currently have run some tests on the opposite wall with my current XGIMI Halo+. Nifty little projector but 1080 which I dont love and suffers with brightness. I have to say however its a great little projector for what I paid for it and it really sold me on having a 120" screen over a razor sharp OLED at say 65/70". I have a decent sound setup, currently 7.1 surround with DALI Zensors and a Marantz Cinema 60 everything will be running through. The room is a dark green (pictured) and so at night can be made pretty dark. As i'll be using the projector during the day as well my thought is to install a big motorized drop down screen across the bay window which will double as a blackout blind to cut down ambient light. TBH the room is pretty dingy anyway as its North facing so it gets no direct sunlight for most of the day. So now the background and current setup is out of the way, basically my questions are what projector and what screen (gain/ALR etc) would you guys recommend? I'd like to stick with LED projectors or Laser to so I dont have to worry about maintenance. Current options i've been looking at so far is as follows in current order of preference: Benq x3000i Benq W1800 Xgimi Horizon Pro Are there any other projectors around these price points that you guys would recommend? I'm mounting it to the ceiling so not worried about portability, and don't care about internal sound obviously. Big thanks in advance. https://preview.redd.it/2jxxe3d0fayd1.jpg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4813820bd64ce63efbbbf771d3dab852a6491043
