Reddit Reviews
Hello, I am interested to hear if anyone has actually good things to say about this humidifier? I've now read all the negative ones over the last 5 years in reddit and haven't find much positive reviews on it. Everyone just says its bad and expensive and do not buy, but what they don't tell is what I then should buy instead? Also you guys who own this thing, do you always use distilled water in it? Or do you use just tap water? And especially if you have always bought and used distilled water in it, have you had any problems with the deep cycle program? What I have understood the pump unit gets clogged up eventually and then the deep cycle thing is not working anymore (and probably not the humidifier part either). Also what I've heard ppl are not satisfied with is the fact the water tank and other parts of the product where the water circulates gets slimy and moldy over time. Only reason what I can think of why its happening is the tap water, be cause it has so much impurities. That's why I would be interest to hear some user experiences who uses only distilled water in this humidifier. And I am not that much interested about the air purifier part in this, but its a nice "bonus" in my opinion. I have decent filtration in my home air unit (pre, HEPA-13 and carbon filters) so my indoor air quality is very good already, but its just very dry (around 10-15%). It should be around 20-40% at the winter time. Ps. I already order my unit, but hasn't received it yet :)
u/Qballmjk I received my unit today and happily I can announce that they have done some changes. Although the changes are nothing ground breaking, the duct tape is still there and the lid is already smiling at you when you remove the duct tape. But they have sink all the wire connections from outside of the compartment to hot glue or epoxy resin as well as everything below the circuit board inside the compartment is also sub merged into that same stuff. Therefore making the unit absolutely non repairable in any way or form, but also making it probably first time ever water tight if you have little oopsie at some point. I don't see the water could get inside the circuit board compartment anymore, except from the smiling compartment lid if the duct tape is not holding. Therefore I am going to glue the compartment door shut with epoxy glue, since there is nothing to see or repair at any point anyway. And therefore making sure the water doesn't find its way in there no matter what. I couldn't remove the actual pump unit (grey plastic) from the top cover (white plastic) since couple of the screws were under the epoxy resin. But according to [these photos](https://imgur.com/a/dyson-ph01-pump-examination-8BwpdZ8) by u/techtimee there is no way the water could get inside from there anyway. [Photos of the water pump unit in 2026](https://imgur.com/a/3rNovrk) So in short if you don't trust duct tape water proofing capabilities. I would glue the lid shut with a glue that can fill small gaps like epoxy glue or similar and ditch the duct tape completely. Just be sure the glue is all flat on top of the lid so you can get the top cover over it. After that the water pump unit should be completely water tight afaik. I will update here if I prove my self to be wrong in next two years that the guarantee will cover my investment. And I am going to buy and use only distilled water in this since I want to avoid all problems caused by scaling/lime build up in internal pipes and/or water pump itself. Its a little pricey, but I bet its gonna be worth it in the long run, if this unit can now last many years of use. EDIT: And this unit is sold in EU. I cannot say for sure are the changes worldwide the same. But considering how how small the changes were I bet they could be the same, no matter where you live. EDIT: I sealed the lid now with [Würth 2C plastic adhesive Replast® ME 90 sec.](https://eshop.wuerth-industrie.com/2C-plastic-adhesive-Replast-ME-90-sec-ADH-PLA-2C-REPLAST-90S-BLACK-50ML/0893500051.sku/en/US/EUR/) and leave the duct tape out completely, because it serves no purpose anymore. End result is not pretty, but its under the cover plate so I don't care. At least there is no possibility to get water in the compartment thru that lid anymore. I also glued the screw holes shut since the lid is not coming off anymore. https://preview.redd.it/r9pl4ty2qveg1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0ff35daf46bb6127200647e48ca81e45b35c3ff7
I think that if you are as careful with the water as the user manual, app and the pictures in the water tank tell you to be, you could in theory be just fine by doing nothing. But knowing how much this water pump unit have caused problems over the years I would recommend to glue the lid. Its like five minute job and most likely you avoid a lot trouble by doing so. Only if the pump breaks and they see that the unit is tampered with, then the guarantee might not cover it. I tried the rear-firing mode already once to make sure everything works as they should. I have mine in a corner of a room so I do not plan to use that rear-firing mode at all. As a engineer my self I was not expecting any fancy upgrade in this water pump unit. Because changing actual parts or even re-engineering the lid to have one screw in each of the four corners would costs so much to get that it in production. It would eat way too much of the product margin. And if you think about it, now the water can only get inside from the lid that is covered with duct tape that is away from UV light sources (sun light basically) so it should stay in good condition for many years and repel water if some few drops get under the cover plate. And our tap water is pretty soft by default. So I am gonna test out how much the unit seems to be using water over one month period to keep up the 45% humidity level I want to be at. If the usage of the water is more than what I think is wise to buy from the store, then I may look for some sort of filtration to my tap water. Reverse Osmosis would be super cool, but that setup is over kill for me since the tap water here tastes good and is safe to drink. I just would not like to use it in the unit since I've planned to use this for more than ten years to compensate the cost of this machine. I know how silly this might sound for you guys who had to return the whole product be cause it was faulty and spend the money else where, but I have good hopes for this. And I can get distilled water from local hardware store for around 0,63€ per one liter. So it makes then 3,15€ per one full tank of water. And if that can last me more than one week to keep up the humidity level, I will solve the limescale problem just by buying and using only the distilled water in this. But if it takes that one tank per one or two days, then I need to figure out some cheaper option. Probably some kind filtration to my local tap water. Even though its not as clean as distilled, but I bet its much better than pure tap water.
I also bought air quality monitor today that measures CO₂, PM (1, 2.5, 4 and 10), NOx, VOC, Temp. , Air pressure and air humidity. I was mostly interested about the CO₂ levels since I do work a lot remotely from home and they seem to be in good level all day. And also the air humidity, that seems to be a bit too low at the moment. But overall I can see if the Dyson Purifier has some effect on values they claim to purify.
I'm having it since Nov 2025 and I'm satisfied with it so far. I thought about using distilled water but ended up with a tap water. It runs in auto mode 24/7 and I noticed that somewhy it raises the speed every morning up to almost the maximum point. When it does do it makes a slight whistling sound. I'm not sure if it has to be like that or not but it's not very concerning rn. I'll look into that if the sound goes worse. The air flow is strong enough and it removes any smells from the air very well.
I’d say, after going through 3 of them and sending them all back inoperable, I’d recommend spending one third the money on a good humidifier, either warm or cool mist, made by a reputable brand like Levoit or Honeywell or a number of others. I always used r/o water (we have great water). Ironically, it was the fan part of my units that reliably malfunctioned. The fan “blades” or turrets would lock up during breeze mode, then make a grinding sound trying to reposition themselves correctly, then locking up and throwing the exclamation mark code on the display, at which point they were inoperable even after a reset. I spent almost a year babying these devices to get them to work properly. That said, maybe they have fixed the issues. I guess you’re about to find out! Keep us posted.
It was during 2022/23. It’s possible they have solved the issues by now. But judging from comments, it doesn’t seem like they have. I really wanted the PH02 to work since it seems to solve 2 problems at once. I sincerely hope your experience will be a good one.
I have a Dyson humidifier/filter think pH 02. Live in a ~600 sqft studio. With windows that got replaced a few years ago. So if your bedroom door is closed you'll be humdifying a smaller area than me. Also depends if your cat will let you leave the door closed. And You're not just humdifying the air but all of your furniture and things, so only running at night will leave it trying to catch up for a while. So I rarely use the humidifier function on the dyson. In auto filter and auto humdify mode, where it sets the fan speed as needed, It will crank the fan to full and it's very loud if the humidity is more than 5% or so off the target. You can manually set the fan to a lower/quieter speed and engage the humidifier, but unsure how well that humidifies I've got a vornado evaporative humidifier, and go through a bit over 2 gallons per day, so distilled water could get expensive. I just set it at 40 and let it go. My house is usually in the mid-low 30s. Do not get an additional Ultrasonic humidifier if you're planning on using the Dyson as an air filter. The water particles will trigger the air quality sensors which will cause the fan to run at full speed.
I would def NOT buy a Dyson. I was so so bummed on ours. I splurged and got the $1100 one they have because I knew we would be using it every night and it was able to stay clean so much easier (supposedly) and that was a selling point too. But over the last month, it developed a high pitch shrill sound after being on for about 2-3 hours at night and it is deafening. It sounds like shrill, consistent fire alarm beep. When I reached out to customer service (because it is still under warranty) - this is literally what they said, "We can offer you a discount on the NEW Dyson with updated features" - I told them that solution didn't feel great because I had already spent a ton of money on the product and didn't want to spend even more on another one I wasn't sure would work either. Then after a lengthy call, he gives me a shipping label to mail the HUGE tower of a machine back "for repairs". It is a UPS label and I got quoted $42 for the thick style huge box I need and all the bubble wrapping to go with it. I asked customer service if they offer assistance with this, and no, it is up to the customer to foot even MORE money and you aren't even guaranteed these "repairs" will even fix the problem. I am just SO disappointed. You would think if you spend a premium price on a premium product there would be a more accommodating solution. My husband and I have been a Dyson fam in the past (vacuums, air filers/humidifiers/ hair dryer/ hair straightener - but this left me DONE with them.

I have been using the Dyson Pure Humidify+Cool for a while now as my air and purifier and it has been great for my similar-sized space. It effectively removes fine dust and controls humidity. Filter replacements are a necessity every 6-12 months and electricity costs are at a reasonable rate
Second this on the Dyson I’m going through the same exact scenario. Save your money.
I went through lots of humidifiers over the years and they all seemed not to be very good. Now I have a Dyson and while it’s hideously expensive it’s easily the best one I’ve ever owned.
