I buy a cheap Walmart (Equate) warm air humidifier about every 2 years, about $33-35. I run them 24/7 (on Low setting) while the forced air heating is running. I have a hygrometer sitting on my nightstand and it registers about 50% most of the time, maybe a little more. It is a noticeable difference to the rest of the house. I have to keep up on the water, as it uses several gallons in a full day. Using hard water (tap) requires I clean it out about once a month. That job is about 10-15 minutes, no biggee. Considering I have a couple thousand invested in my instruments, the $35 and my time and attention is the least I can do. Oh, and my health is better as well, no dry sinuses. Win Win. Conversely, I use a window AC unit to dehumidify in the summer.
