If you have a central furnace then add one to that. If not get an evaporative one with a 1 gallon minimum capacity. It should be able to run a full day. The ultrasonic ones will leave a mist on everything and will clog any air filters you have. I like the Honeywell HWLHEV620B. The wicks last around 4 weeks with our hard water. The top come off to clean the base. I just wish it had a better handle when moving the unit.
I have a Honeywell HEV620 evaporative humidifier that’s been great. When it’s time to replace the wick, get the upgraded wick with the blue mesh, and a pack of the Protec humidifier cleaning balls to keep bacterial buildup at bay. The HEV620 was available in-store at my local Target, but there’s also a few different variants of the HEV6xx that are essentially the same model.
Not what you want to hear….Absolutely use distilled water in an ultrasonic and follow the cleaning maintenance that is in the manual. I have tried all 3 kinds (ultrasonic, warm mist and cool wicking) Our favourite is the cool wicking (with a filter) https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/honeywell-hev620bc-top-fill-cool-mist-moisture-tower-air-humidifier-with-programmable-humidistat-black-4-73-l-0435150p.html?rq=humidifiers because we were going through soooooo many jugs of distilled water. Being able to just use tap water has been so much more convenient. The filters can be rotated through the week to extend their life. I was originally turned off by the fact that it needs a filter and we also have hard water. But changing the filter is waaaay less cumbersome and cheaper than needing jugs and jugs of distilled water. It also does a great job keeping the humidity up in our living room, we have a wood stove as our main heat source.
Thank you for the reality check! We really love how we feel with the humidifier at night and would love to make it work. Appreciate the recommendation for the cool wicking one! We might just get that one, and maaaaybe return the other one. I did read about evaporative humidifiers but it was overwhelming finding them in store and panic bought the cool mist one LOL It would be waaaay more convenient to just use tap water. We're actually unsure if our tap water is hard water or not lol. One more thing to research I guess! For the filters, are they one-time use? Or can they be reused and just needed some cleaning? How often do you clean the cool wicking humidifier?
Oh that's great to hear! We ended up going back to Canadian Tire just now to return the ultrasonic humidifier. Got the one you and the other commenter suggested and we also got a smaller evaporative humidifier 😅. We'll be using the bigger one in our living room and the smaller one in our bedroom. The smaller one doesn't have a way to monitor humidity levels so we might get a humidity monitor... So excited haha Thank you for your help!
I ended up returning a humidifier I didn’t like to Canadian Tire and they took it back, no questions asked and then I got this one that I find works very well: https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/honeywell-hev620bc-top-fill-cool-mist-moisture-tower-air-humidifier-with-programmable-humidistat-black-4-73-l-0435150p.html. Just fyi! Good luck!
I’ve had this humidifier for around 7 years. It’s a beast and I love it. Very easy to clean.
We live in a very dry place. For my apartment we use a humidifier + air purifier. It helps a lot! Make sure to clean your humidifier regularly. I use the Honeywell humidifier HEV620BC.
Sure. Humidifier: https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/honeywell-hev620bc-top-fill-cool-mist-moisture-tower-air-humidifier-with-programmable-humidistat-black-4-73-l-0435150p.html Air purifier: https://www.rona.ca/en/product/winix-5300-2-true-hepa-air-purifier-116100-332044539 Websites are Canadian but if you live in the US, you’ll definitely find them there.
Get a digital hygrometer to put in the room, you can get them online or in the reptile section at a pet store. The analog ones suck. I live in a humid area but usually my room is never too humid with the room door open and the A/C running so it's never as humid indoors as outside, so you may not need a dehumidifier, but test your room humidity to find out. You'll definitely want a humidifier though if it ever gets cold or you ever use your heater. You'll ideally want an evaporative humidifier, the moisture evaporates into the air. Don't get a mist humidifier, you don't want water droplets settling on your harp. Sometimes they use the term "invisible cool mist" for evaporative humidifiers, but make sure the description says it's evaporative and not vapor/doesn't show mist/vapor in the photos. [This](https://a.co/d/5xKfUiA) is what I have, it's the cheapest decent evaporative one I could find, but it's only strong enough for a small-medium room imo. If you have a ceiling fan, that also helps to spread the humidity around better on the counterclockwise setting and to shut the room door. It'll be harder to retain humidity in a large open room without a large humidifier, but that can be good place to put the harp if you want to dehumidify.
I have an old Honeywell wicking humidifier works amazingly well!
honeywell cool evaporative humidifier.
