Hi everyone! Like with everything baby-related, we felt overwhelmed with all the research and options when it comes to buying a humidifier. We live in the interior so must have the furnace on in the winter. We're expecting in a couple days. We were at a Canadian Tire yesterday with the intention of buying a humidifier. I came in with the knowledge that warm mist is a big no no and that ultrasonic might be dangerous because of all the minerals and bacteria they might put into the air so you either need to use distilled water or clean the tank regularly to avoid that. Anyway, we came home with a Honeywell Ultra Plus Cool Mist Humidifier. Here's the [Canadian Tire link](https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/honeywell-hul565bc-ultra-plustm-ultrasonic-cool-mist-humidifier-1-5-gallon-0437092p.html) for reference. We bought it because we don't have to buy filters for it. It's cool mist. It seems large enough for our room. We used it for the first time last night and WOW we could immediately feel a difference. It feels easier to breathe, the air feels fresher. And apparently, my partner didn't notice me snoring loudly last night! And I don't remember him snoring either. It is making us consider getting more humidifiers for the entire house! lol My question is: How strict are you in following the humidifier's manual instructions for maintenance/cleaning? Our manual said to never leave the humidifier on unattended in a closed room, to empty the tank if not using it, to clean it once a week with vinegar and sanitize with bleach, etc. If you're using an ultrasonic cool mist humidifier, do you use distilled water for it? Thank you for sharing tips!
Thank you for the reality check! We really love how we feel with the humidifier at night and would love to make it work. Appreciate the recommendation for the cool wicking one! We might just get that one, and maaaaybe return the other one. I did read about evaporative humidifiers but it was overwhelming finding them in store and panic bought the cool mist one LOL It would be waaaay more convenient to just use tap water. We're actually unsure if our tap water is hard water or not lol. One more thing to research I guess! For the filters, are they one-time use? Or can they be reused and just needed some cleaning? How often do you clean the cool wicking humidifier?
Oh that's great to hear! We ended up going back to Canadian Tire just now to return the ultrasonic humidifier. Got the one you and the other commenter suggested and we also got a smaller evaporative humidifier 😅. We'll be using the bigger one in our living room and the smaller one in our bedroom. The smaller one doesn't have a way to monitor humidity levels so we might get a humidity monitor... So excited haha Thank you for your help!
Ive bought a Honeywell Cold Mist humidifier years ago from BEST. Still works great!
Hey there! My partner has done a ton of research on this and said the he recommends an evaporative humidifier. We have used them for the past few winters and it’s made a HUGE difference for me. We really like the Honeywell cool mist because it’s easy to clean and doesn’t build up germs.
