Been using a Levoit for about 2 years now and it's solid, just don't slack on the weekly cleaning or you'll regret it lol. The top-fill design is clutch when you're lazy about refills
I’ve tried multiple and I feel like no matter what they get moldy🥲 best I’ve found is the Vicks 3-in-1, it serves us well when emptied and dried daily, and fully cleaned every few uses. Frida baby 3 in 1 immediately got moldy, as did our levoit top fill. But the ultimate winner is a whole home humidifier. We splurged($1000 for install and humidifier) because we have number 2 coming in August and I despise the upkeep of room humidifiers.
I recommend Levoit's top-filling models instead. They're not at Costco, but they work great, are much easier to fill and clean than bottom filling ones, and the brand is pretty solid. Just make sure to keep up with cleaning, ultrasonic humidifiers require it or they get nasty. I clean with both vinegar and bleach (separately, of course) and mine have been working for years.
I just ordered a levoit brand one, having had other levoit ones that last a long time. The difference in the new is it is top fill, and has a big opening, and made specifically for easy cleaning. I will also make it a point to never put tape water in it, distilled only. I used to use the additives that supposedly make it not gunk up, but in the Midwest/Ohio valley area, our water has a lot of dissolved minerals (limestone especially) and is very "green" with lots of living organisms too small to be seen, even when treated.
I have the Levoit top-fill and I like it. Long-term use is kind of vague. It shouldn't break on you at all, and you should just give it a quick wash once a week to keep it from developing any mold
You should use a cool mist humidifier for baby. We have a levoit and like to a lot. It has an auto shut off feature which is nice. If the air is too dry in the whole house you may want to consider a whole home humidifier
You should use a cool mist humidifier. We have a Levoit that works well. But we use it in addition to our whole house humidifier we recently had installed. The whole home humidifier was an investment but worth it
Dealing with a couple dozen in-case humidifiers vs. one room humidifier is bonkers. OP, I'd go one something like Wirecutter and pick a highly-rated model with the features you want. Be aware that there are two types—evaporative and ultrasonic. Both have their ups and downs. Ultrasonic is silent and doesn't require replacing filters, but they release whatever is in the water into the air. That means mineral dust and any bacteria growing in the water. If you go this route, make sure to use only distilled water and thoroughly clean the unit regularly. Evaporative humidifiers on the other hand don't release anything into the air, but you need to replace the filters regularly and they produce some fan noise (not great if you're recording). And even though they don't release stuff into the air, they absolutely still will grow bacteria inside, so you still need to clean them regularly. Personally I use a Levoit ultrasonic unit running with distilled water. It's great and very low maintenance, I just clean it once a week which is much less effort than dealing with a bunch of in-case humidifiers like I used to. And because the humidity in the room is pretty much 45-50% all year round, my guitars almost never need adjustment. Once they're set up, they play great for years with no tweaking required.
it’s okay! it works and does help with humidity but i wish it had a digital humidistat to turn it self off. the unit is also fairly large and i wish it was smaller. I also wish the tank was bigger as it’s kind of annoying to flip the filter and refill it everyday. I probably could do it every other day. I will say that the filter stays relatively clean after using the deminirlization tablets and aftermarket filter from amazon. Also being able to throw like most parts in the dishwasher is awesome for cleaning . comparing this to a previous levoit ultrasonic and i like that it’s way more healthy. No mold in tricky spots (yet anyway) and i feel like i can do an easier job of keeping it clean for my son. I do change the wick every 30 days as well .
They’re also the healthiest, if you have breathing problems or allergies that get worse when we get high levels of small particulate (PM 2.5 ) pollution in the summer. I bought a big Levoit ultrasonic humidifier last winter and my air purifier, which gives exact PM 2.5 levels, read >300, which is crazy high. It wasn’t just the water vapour because even 2 rooms away it was still >100. My warm steam humidifier doesn’t raise the particulate levels at all and doesn’t leave a film of white dust over everything either. It’s the best!
I would stay clear from Levoit or any other ultrasonic humidifier. I had it, and it covers all pictures in the room with white film, because of the minerals that gets to air. And google or ask AI about health risks of ultrasonic vs evaporative humidifiers... I replaced my Levoit with Smartmi evaporative humidifier 3 and can't be happier. Works in HA too.
