Vicks warm mist humidifier is absolute perfection, and none of those ring filters that get moldy or need replacing.
Mine are disposable. I have both an evaporative humidifier (Vicks Warm Steam) and a cool mist (Honeywell HCM350). I soak the cool mist filters in vinegar, and soak the evaporative motor/filter part in about 4-5" of vinegar. Removes mold and mineral buildup from both.
I started soaking my filters in vinegar. It dissolves all the buildup, and I get twice as much life out of them.
Get a warm mist humidifier. It'll make your space feel cozy, and winter colds will be a thing of the past. My go-to ones are by Vick's and Honeywell. They look identical, with different branding, but can usually be found everywhere, online and in drug stores.
It's also cleaner, and safer. No worries about spreading bacteria, or mold, through the air, because the unit needed to be clean, and no dust from your water evaporating leaving it's mineral content behind on your furniture. I tried cool mist once, to see why they were so popular, and they made the room feel cold an clammy. Blech! I think people like them because you're less likely to deal with burns from kids, or animals messing with it. It also uses less energy since there's no heat source, but the result are sub par.
With the caveat below, I love the Vick's Warm Mist humidifiers for a room - like keeping a bedroom at higher humidity at night. Not "high" humidity, just "higher" than the rest of the dried out house. It is easy to use and depending upon room size you can run it at low or high for the night. A tank on low lasts 24 hours, on high 12 hours. CAVEAT: If you use tap water (that's what I do as you'd go through lots of distilled water), you need to descale it every week or two. To do that I put it in the sink at use vinegar to fill the bottom until the heating element is covered. After a few hours (or many if you're away at work say), scrape or pop off the scale that has built up over the week or two since you last did this and it's as good as new. If you go with a cool mist or ultrasonic humidifier, instead of that scale building up on the heating element, that same scale is disbursed throughout the room as a very fine white dust that accumulates on everything.
Been using a Vicks warm mist one for like 3 years now and it's solid. Just gotta clean it every week or two or it gets gross. Way better than those ultrasonic ones that leave white dust everywhere
Classic Vicks warm mist humidifier is my go-to. Uses steam from boiled water, not mist. And it’s stupidly easy to maintain.
We got a Vick’s warm mist humidifier since it boils the water and only requires weekly maintenance. Also it was very affordable and I like that it keeps my room warm in the winter.
The Vicks warm mist humidifier is the only one that worked long-term for me! I've tried multiple cool mist humidifiers and they always get disgusting. The Vicks warm humidifier actually works better with hard water because it needs minerals to actually boil the water and produce steam. My water is soft, so I have to add salt. It sounds strange but it's something to do with the mechanism it uses to boil the water.
I’ve always used a warm mist humidifier this size for a typical bedroom. Vicks Warm Mist Humidifier https://n-www.walgreens.com/store/c/vicks-warm-mist-humidifier/ID=prod6387562-product
We swear by the Vicks warm mist humidifier. It boils the Water though so make sure your baby can’t get to it. We like it over a cool mist since it doesn’t grow bacteria like a cool mist ultrasonic. They last us about a year before they break, but considering we don’t descale and it’s only ~$40 we don’t mind.
+1 Steam humidifier. * It sanitizes the water through boiling, so no need for additives. * Releases nothing into the air except pure steam, since again it boils it. * Can use tap water instead of distilled water. Only difference is I recommend getting the Vicks unit at $20, instead of the $150 unit you listed.
Get a $20 Vicks Steam humidifier. * It boils the water. Kills microbes, no mold. No cleaning. * No filters to replace. * Dirt cheap and easy to use. * Takes regular tap water. People don't like it because it is very warm, even hot to the touch. A careless child can burn themselves on it. Also, it leaves behind black chips in the water. People think something is wrong but this is just the minerals in the water left behild after boiling. Simply dump them out in the toilet or trash and replace with tap water.
