r/headphonesBudget iems are crazily good nowadays

I went to my local shop to try out some “endgame” level of iems today since I am on off day, and saw this new Truthear Zero Blue 2 on the shelf. So while waiting to test the other kilobucks iems, out of curiosity i reached out and tried the Blue 2, and….it is so damn good I thought i was hallucinating. So to make sure i wasnt being dramatic, i tried other thieaudio prestige ltd and “almostexact” same shell size 64 audio u6t and it proved that I wasnt. Dont get me wrong, blue 2 doesnt out resolve any of those kilobuck iems, but the tuning is so good! When dirextly compared to u6t, u6t sounded like theres a something lacking on the treble? Not sure if its the unit issue but blue 2 sounded so much better and natural. Just the technical aspect isnt comparable especially when full band of bass/drums/guitars coming in u6t I am still able to pinpoint everything while blue 2 is more of a mess. Blue 2 i personally feel that the vocals and treble is just nice 👌, and smooth! Not to mention very comfortable too. I have some endgame level sets and still plan to get this one just for everyday beater set! Tldr; Its crazy how much quality 64.99 can get you in 2025!

r/iemsWhat kilobuck IEMs actually felt like a big upgrade for you?

I have some kilobucks iems coming from sub 500 stuff. The thing is while sub 500 stuff sounds good, or great value they usually just tuning good, but lack some technical performance and soundstage. At least thats how i felt. Kilobuck stuff tends to give you extra 10-20% of that like Monarch mk2 (superb vocals with superb resolution) 64 audio u4s/u6t (better instruments separation and soundstage) Westone mach 80 ( best detail retrieval and resolution under 2k usd) Etc etc.. This is just an example of course theres many other kilobucks that are good too but for me 1000-1500 is where the diminishing return start to kicks in

Unfortunately in my situation, I need to be able to hear everyone in the band plus backing tracks as I monitor everything while performing. Ideally I’d do the U6T custom molded but might have to go this route for now.

Vocal-forward and emotionally engaging… the IEM that comes to mind is the U6T from 64Audio.

you mention 2.8K max yet mention devices that are inexpensive, so I assume your currency isn't USD. Moondrop Chu 2? but if you are talking USD, campfire audio Clara/Andromeda 10, 64 audio Volur are bassy, campfire Astrolith is snappy/punchy in its attack, 64 audio u6t is very utilitarian(all genre)

U6T is great, as long as the OP can buy it. (Being its a kilobuck set) Though a much cheaper set maybe, we don't know the price limit.

r/iemsWhat was your first experience with more expensive IEMs like?

Demoed 64audio duo during the Hifi show. It’s like letshuoer s12 but perfect. They have the full-bodied vocals that I am always looking for. So I jumped into the 64audio train and talked to their staff what I am looking for in an IEM. I end up with U6T and it’s perfect — the full-bodied lush vocals inside my head that it feels like the artist is whispering to me, makes every track emotional. My daily driver before this was TFZ No. 3 so imagine the jump. I would say totally life-changing. During a trip to SG, I visited The Hangout by Crinacle and Zeppelin. Got to try lots of TOTL IEM. That experience reaffirms that 64audio is my best choice for vocals. My star IEM on that trip was the Monarch MKII because it has the widest soundstage out of all the IEMs I have tried, couple with the thumping bass — feels like I’m in a concert. Also tried the Annihilator. I was not impressed at first, not until I got home and listened to some music I used with the Annihilator. It was like a night and day difference when it comes to the highs that I could not hear the sparkle I heard from the Annihilator. (Tho I still don’t like how the vocals sounded in them — they sounded thin but maybe because of the airiness.) My next goal is to find a moderately-priced IEM with EST driver that gives the same sparkle to the highs.

That’s 64 audio’s whole thing. They built a port with filters into their iems. Essentially acts like having a molded earplug with set db filters (believe they have 12, 15, 20, and solid) that passes signal through it.

If you don't practice with IEMs, it would be better to not play with them either. The difference in volume perception, cue mix, and dealing with human interactions is pretty significant compared to the relative ease of sliding down your 'phones. Side note: most people see the visual cue of 'headphones on' and hold back on coming up to the booth - not so with IEMs. They just don't see them! I'm fortunate to have universal ear holes ?!!! so my set of 64Audio are great. Tried the Sennheiser HD-25 and they're good, also but actually did hurt my ears after a long gig. They also seemed to be tuned to clip certain frequencies but that could have just been my perception, Found that the bass was almost always too rich, when I really needed the mids to be in my sweet spot. The other gotcha with wearing IEMs, whether you get a custom fit or get away with the universal fits, is that you have to absolutely know, trust and believe in your FOH music management. You obviously don't need a booming booth monitor but if you're also controlling your own FOH on the fly, IEMs are not good for keeping your overall volume balanced. If you have to manage your own sound, I wouldn't trust my IEMs to not get in the way.
