I love the Etymotic ER-4s! Not super comfortable (IMO), but holy wow do they sound good and isolate well.
r/LocationSound • What headphones are you using on set as a production sound mixer ? ->My other IEMs are the Hidizs MP145, KZ PRX and ZAR, Rosefinch, Zero Red, Zero 2, and ancient Ety ER4S. I mostly just listen to the Punch, MP145 and ZAR for portable. I love classic rock the most like Grateful Dead, Steely Dan, Beatles, Dylan, Zeppelin, etc. But I listen to everything, love classical and jazz, and EDM and Hip-hop and bassy pop, soul.
r/iems • Are the Kiwi Ears x HBB Punch the best for someone who likes a more bassy sound with some treble and low mids while still sounding clear and not muddy? ->Lol didn't expect to see these here! I've been using my ER4s for what feels like 20 years now? In the last couple of years I've had two sets of "true wireless" earbuds and they both shit themselves. I've replaced filters and eartips but overall they're as good as ever. Sound quality and isolation are amazing, and even better with the foam eartips. My current phone doesn't have a headphone jack, which is extremely annoying however. Thanks, Samsung (and Apple, for starting this nonsense). You don't mention it, but not having another set of batteries to deal with is a big plus too. Oh, they also won't randomly fall out and get lost down a drain or something.
r/onebag • Why I travel with Etymotic ER2XR IEMs instead of ANC headphones ->I have ER4s, but if I wasn't listening to them back to back, I'd probably forget about any differences within a few minutes. I think most people would struggle to differentiate if there wasn't a big difference in bass or something.
r/onebag • Why I travel with Etymotic ER2XR IEMs instead of ANC headphones ->DT770’s are tough to beat. I don’t personally think there’s anything better. The fact that you can replace every part is great. If I have to use IEM’s (usually when it’s loud - I do a lot of racing stuff) I use Etymotic ER-4s, sometimes under earmuffs.
r/LocationSound • What headphones are you using on set as a production sound mixer ? ->I loved my old er6i. with comply tips they were the OG noise cancelling IEMs. used them for thousands of miles on motorcycles. the original er4s/p were the best, though. they went deep into your brain...
r/onebag • Why I travel with Etymotic ER2XR IEMs instead of ANC headphones ->As someone who mostly uses BA IEMs the multi-flange tips aren't even exactly a matter of isolation, they always provide the best possible bass response and it's very noticeable. I guess that's part of the reason why Etymotic keeps shipping them since the beginning (ER4). Not as noticeable with DDs though
r/iems • Recommend IEMs for small ears in the budget up to 100 dollars ->No I think there might not be enough bass and a lower mid, when compared to the 2K peak. However, maybe that will be OK when you take into account the occlusion effect. Also - just as a point, I personally don't agree with having a 'vocal' IEM, or a 'Drummer' IEM, etc. I think they should just be engineered to sound good at a reasonable volume level. Obviously IEM's have some limitations, but even a single driver can sound really, really good - Etyomic ER4 is a great example. I'm still very interested to see some hard, measured data on actual phase and frequency response from 5 or more driver IEMS, because I'm not convinced that they are actually better.
r/musicians • What’s your ideal in-ear monitor for stage performance ->I’d love to keep using the etys but I got impacted earwax in one ear in 2017 very likely from using etys regularly for years. Ok, might have been because I should have kept ear canal clear and wax free regularly, but imo it’s a real risk with these deep insertion earphones. Also, why not get the er4 variants for max sound quality?
r/onebag • Why I travel with Etymotic ER2XR IEMs instead of ANC headphones ->Etymotic sound quality is great but not for bass heads. Also the microphonics from the cable will drive you crazy if you move even a little bit.
r/onebag • Why I travel with Etymotic ER2XR IEMs instead of ANC headphones ->Might be an unpopular opinion on this sub but Etymotics are better than anything for that. ER4 or ER3, either works. Though deep insertion might not be for everyone! But if you don't like it I imagine you can just return it.
