Probably depends what you listen to, but I have ea500lm which are interesting but not really natural. I then bought the Dunu Falcon ultra To, which at the opposite of the spectrum. A little bit warm, natural, not demanding of perfect sound source. Very nice, my final choice.
**Iems that look good that sound pretty good** Juzear Defiant, Celest Wyveryn Abyss, RSV Mark 1, Tea Pro, Dusk, Tanchjim Origin, Celest Pandamon 2.0 (I like it anyway), Yu9 Que, Elysian Pilgrim, EM6L (with Kiwi ears flex eartips), Dunu Kima 2, Sivga Que, Zigaat Lush, Misty Blue, Cadenza 4, Kiwi Ear Astral, Moondrop Variations, Twistura Woodnote, Fosi IM4 (but some eq may be needed), Xuan NV, IER M7, Kiwi Ear Orchestra Lite (in green), Tanchjim Fola, Softears Studio 4, Truthear Hola, Shure SE846, Andromeda 2020, Softear Volume S **Iems that look good that I don't like the sound of** Moondrop Blessing 3, Tipsy M3 (their shells looks sick), Chu 2 (used to like it but standards have went up), 7hz G1 (looks sick in white) (sounds bad tho), Kiwi Ears Cadenza (purple) (it's pretty but vocals are too thin), Mega5EST (pretty shell) (sleepy sounding to me), RSV Mark 2 (sick design) (but the bass gets overbearing over time), A bunch of Zigaats look nice but I didn't like them (Ziggat Arcanis, Zigaat Crescent, Zigaat Odyssey), Canpur Silver Flash, Inawaken Twilight (Harman 2019, hate it), Chopin (thin vocals), Letshouer S08 (sick in black) (I used to like it but don't like it as much anymore), Kiwi Ears Cadenza v2 (pretty faceplate but cookie-cutter sound), a crapton of Simgots have beautiful faceplates but I don't like how they sound (EW200, EW300, Supermix 4, all of them except EM6L), Crinacle Blue Zero (harsh), Crinacle Blue Zero 2 (harsh at high volume), Truthear Nova (gorgeous shell, quite a unpleasant sounding iem), Phoenix call version 1 (gorgeous shell but lackluster sound), Dunu Falcon Ultra (gorgeous shell but imo can get harsh at times)
My absolute favourite IEM is the Fatfreq Grand Maestro. It has tuning switches like the MKIV and comes with different modules to adjust bass. Giving instruments and voices an accurate body and representation, it is never sharp but has good details which sound natural. Using the switch will bring in more treble if desired but then it gets a bit sharp. The Grand Maestro is the first IEM which gives me the representation of a full blown big ass speaker which is driven by an excellent power source. Only disadvantage here is the price of the GM. Otherwise the Top Pros are very good with proper ear tips to tame the treble and they are quite affordable. I am praising now for a while the Dunu Falcon Ultra which I think is awesome. Has a bit warmth and forward , being at the stage like, vocals and great treble which only bother when cranked up.
As well one of my favourites due to its tonality and foremost musicality which a lot of IEMs just don’t have. A lot of details and great mids along forward overall sound presentation makes it an almost „live“ experience when I listen to it. I prefer the blue nozzles though. In terms of musicality and enjoyment it beats many other IEMs imo. Very much underrated and for some weird reason even called bassy. It even lacks subbass , that’s almost the only weak point for me. So the graph only tells a small part of the story.
Either some reviewers are not good in explaining or just have different perception about overall tonality and how bass should be reproduced. When you like "neutral" (horrible word, what does it actually mean?) or even almost anemic sound signatures, even a slight natural warmth seems to be too much. Having said that reviews can be quite misleading as well if you look at the Falcon Ultra's FR. The price in the past and I think still is around 180 USD what I just saw recently. This intimate sound you get from the Ultra is phenomenal imo. As said, just some additional subbass would be great :-) Sibilance extremely seldomly occurs imo with the FAlcon unless it might be even a recording thing. And then of course tip rolling makes a difference as with every other IEM. But other wise still a top IEM which stands out with a lot of qualities but often overlooked. And, almost forgot, the fit. The Ultra's a pretty small and should fit even in tiny ears. I can wear them for hours without any fatigue issues.
Some additional comments and my view of some of these sets. Obviously we hear sets “a bit” differently. And in the end these sets are different and its depending on your music library and your prefs. Here are my suggestions. The Meze Alba is an excellent set. Natural sounding with good enough treble amount especially for people who are treble sensitive. Bass is maybe average or slightly above but mids, vocals are as well pretty good to my ears. It is a more natural sounding set, not an extreme V-shaped or anything else. I can highly recommend it especially for smaller ears. Falcon Ultra can get a bit spicy, true, as well to my ears. At least on higher volume. Otherwise great set. NICEHCK Tears was mentioned, I think it is an excellent set and punches way above its price point in terms of coherence and natural replay. It does lack a bit low end though imo. Canpur Silver Flash is really good but has quite the low end which is too much for some. Fit can be hit or miss due to its "wing". I like the set a lot but I wouldn’t call it balanced. Tanchjim Nora is very good, too, especially when you are a little bit treble sensitive. It is natural slightly relaxed leaning set with great vocals, good enough bass for most genres while having good detail retrieval and nice treble without sounding splashy. The vocals are great on this set without the shout. It might be too boring if you want a lot of treble energy and not sufficient if you are a basshead though. Nora is excellent in comfort and fit but most single DDs are except maybe the Canpur Flash with its "wing".
Dunu falcon ultra, sennheiser ie line up, and let shuoer cadenza 4. I have small ears and all these fit like a dream.
Dunu Falcon Ultra: I dont like that is MMCX and the stock cable could be better, but is the one so far that (with golden nozzle) has the correct mix of tuning, driver performance and comfort for daily use, specially that bass quality which is near perfection (wish it had more amount if anything), if you like a well balanced sound or know how to EQ your way, i recently have seen it for around $180 which is pretty reasonable for it. https://preview.redd.it/d6byrykw7mnf1.png?width=1695&format=png&auto=webp&s=0376f2818f94c555fb5a4ac7d7e15abd86d397fb
Is not really called bassy, but turns out, at least at that time, reviewers were horrible at explaining the tuning style of iems, so they praised the bass (which indeed is very good), but forgot to mention it has a quite tamed amount of... Is More balanced on golden nozzle, thats why i use it, Blue nozzle, on the other hand, has the best quality of bass since it filters less of the sound, but the extra upper mid range, specially around 4-5khz, that has with blue nozzle, just makes my ears suffer a bit too much since i am sensitive to it. Also, stock price of around $220 makes it not feel as appealing given that for around that price you have newer and more flashy options, specially if you like bass, like the Arcadia from ZiiGaat. either way, for People that like vocals, specially female, and the way single DDs do sound, Falcon Ultra can totally be it for a lot of people, maybe only warning i have is that i have a friend that struggles a bit with sibilance and he says it can be prominent on FU, specially blue nozzle, however, i dont struggle as much with it, is a valid thing to bear in mind, will also depend on music library.
I mean they arent, or well, they were not*, good at explaining how much of each thing, bass, mid range and treble, the iem had for them* (reviewers in the past). Not saying if their appreciation was correct or not, more that they didnt explained well how their appreciation actually was. To put it simple, not saying if the iem Reviewed was in fact a V-shape, a warm tuning, a balanced tuning, etc, but failing to explain how the signature sounded to them in a way that was clear how prominent each are of the sound was xd.
I started with just about one of every KZ ~$20-$30 flavor (ie Single DD , Hybrid, Planar, etc.) then used them to learn what I like. In a short time discovered that the mid-range is actually VERY important to me lol.. now I chase more of a W shaped tuning among other things. To me the price-to-performance ratio "sweet spot" seems to be around $150-$300 ⚙️ MY GEAR ⚙️ DAPs: Hiby R4 Hiby R1 Classic Zune 30 (great for impedance mismatch pairing) Over Ear: Fiio FT1 Hifiman Edition XS (V shaped EQ monster) Phillips X2HR (Zune pairing - bloom fills in V) Current IEMs: Letshuoer Astralis Dunu Falcon Ultra (Zune pairing) 7hz Zero 2 Artti R1 On Order: Tansio Mirai X 10th AE Tansio Mirai - TSMR Armor ISN Audio Neo 5 Sivga Que Need to liquidate: KZ Duonic Evolving Wishlist: Penon Quattro FATfreq x HBB Deuce ZiiGaat x Jay's Estrella Erand Resonance 5 Sound Rhyme SR5S ZiiGaat Doscinco Previously owned: KZ Saga KZ Decet (standard) GK Kunten KZ PRX KZ ZS12 Pro X Kiwiears Atruva Fiio JT3 Fiio JT7 TIPS TO USE: •Divinus Velvet - Letshuoer Astralis •Dunu Candy - Dunu Falcon •Hiby WG01 - Artti R1 •Dunu S&S - ?
