Definitely the FatFreq Quantum for me; one of my favorite IEMs especially when paired with the Super Soundstage module.
Oh man you are so right I went from the hexa to the quantum gosh the difference in the bass is crazy. And with abit of EQ I could turn it into a very fun V shape or more wider sounding or even more subbass monster. Diminished return are crazy but I keep reaching for them cause they fit my response perfectly and how well it response to EQ so is it really really diminishing return?
Perfect question, I have just the IEMs that you would want to compare the S12 to: Fatfreq Quantums. I think the subbass experience is something you would be hard pressed to reproduce on the S12. It is geared to be more capable of bass by default (probably air-pressure controlling chambers are the most important?). My lower end non-basshead sets are not capable of EQ-ing on as much subbass to feel the same. Also how about the fact that the Tri Clarion sibilant tips are the default on this set, yet they work best with them for a basshead set. Can you put on sibilant tips for the detail and not having the bass EQ-d? Not on all sets. Maybe not even have enough headroom to EQ up bass to be able to use the tips.
Just came to me: I think the notion of basshead sets with subpar mids and/or highs is probably a myth. I did not end up buying the Titans exactly because the reviews never really mentioned that the IEM is actually a good set outside the bass. However now I have the Fatfreq Quantums which are also similar in the fact that for a basshead set they have very wide pinpoint accurate soundstage, is incredibly detailed and it is by no means a dark piece being a U (or V?) shaped IEM. Lo and behold, the Quantums suffer from the planar bias, nobody really compared them to the pieces in a similar pricerange.
The Fatfreq Quantums were absolutely incredible. I have never heard so deep hard subbass from any IEM ever before that. It became my new favorite signature over midbass centric sets. Also first ever time I actually for real feel soundstage in an IEM. The ones before that simply did not have any in comparsion.
Iβve only tried four planar iems between the F1 pro, Hook X hbb, Aether, and Quantum. I would say FATFreq Quantum is easily my favorite.
Fatfreq Quantum is currently the best Planars
Endgame for me would be something like Annihilator 2023. I think the Mangird Xenns Top Pro is a good βendgameβ iem. I have the Top OG and although it was real good, I tried the annihilator, elysian x effect, u12t so now I consider endgame to be the best possible experience for me. I upgraded to the FatFreq Quantum and Iβll keep these until I can justify spending $2k-3k on IEMs.
I have been wondering what planar driver they use. Iβve had the first Timeless and those sound honestly so bad compared to the Top OG and Quantum. Do you have any more info on the driver? Tbh the Super Soundstage noah module is the only reason I love the Quantum. They have one of the widest sound stages Iβve ever heard, and the bass is pretty nice. EQβs well too.
Without putting a budget you might get really expensive recommendations. Aful Cantor and Fatfreq Quantum are the wider sounding IEMs I have tried. The entire selling point for the Quantum is that soundstage module it has. But for these, buy them secondhand.
Quantum is just timeless with a new shell
Check out the Quantum from Fatfreq. You can get multiple sound signatures by swapping modules most notably the super stage module for a deeper and wider sound stage. Highly recommended especially if you value bass.
I bought Aether and then a week later got an email from FATFreq with a deal I couldn't refuse for Quantum.... it's ruined the Aether for me. But before it was legit the best planar I have heard, and the Aether costs like 1/4 of Quantum so I would definitely recommend it anyone looking to get a freaking awesome sound for not a lot of money.
Basically everything. It's got a very Aether tuning to my ear but the quality of it is just better. Very good clarity, and crazy slam. Plus they came with a cable I had been lusting for, I just didn't want to spend $200 on a cable. FWIW I got a 30% off code because I was an early purchaser of their Deuce and that whole debacle. I don't know that I would be in at $750 but at ~$530 they are a great buy.
