My favorite IEM for metal is the CCA Hydro... but it has one major drawback—many people find it very uncomfortable. It's really big, has a long sound channel, and is ergonomically unfriendly. (Who designed this?) Others I like are the TRN Shell (universal); S12Pro - more for classic metal and old rock; KBear Tourbillon for math, tech, industrial, prog.
I don't know much about NuM. Kbear are the most technical of those mentioned, with the highest resolution and stunning speed. Despite this, they have very powerful bass (unbelievable bass for such high-resolution IEMs), which can really go low but is technical - short, fast, not bass for doom or slower black metal. Unfortunately, the treble is not what I would like in metal. It is very precise, which is good, but slightly too quiet. However, for those sensitive to treble, this may be an advantage.
Pure BA drivers: - KZ Am16 - inexpensive and really great for metal, fast, with powerful but superbly controlled bass, clean treble that is not too strong, cymbals and guitars sound great. Suitable for all types of metal, from extreme to doom and classic metal. Planar drivers: - Many people like the Artti T10 - very good, affordable, fast, with strong bass, generally highly recommended as a first planar driver. - I prefer the F1 Pro - but note that it has quite intense treble, but it's also a brilliant universal IEM for metal. - KZ PRX - cheap but surprisingly good universal IEMs for metal, slightly worse than the previous two, but perfect for starters. Hybrids - TRN Shell - a very underrated IEM for metal. DD/Planar hybrid - super fast, clear, excellent bass that doesn't interfere with the midrange. Single DD driver, - KBear tourbillon - resolving, ultra-fast, with powerful, perfectly controlled bass and super clear highs. In my opinion, there is currently no better 1DD IEM for metal. I do not recommend: Any neutral or tuned for vocals. Any warm ones. S08 - muddy, slow, suitable for doom or classic metal, but anything more extreme is a joke on them. Explorer - I love this IEM, but for jazz. Listening to metal on it is a joke. People will recommend things like: Defiant, Dunu, Tanchjim, Performance, itd. itp depending on which marketing departments are on duty at the moment ;). So my advice is this: read other discussions on the community before you choose anything, because people will suggest IEMs that have as much to do with metal as a goat's ass has to do with a trumpet ;)
Hot take, but the **Kbear Tourbillion Pro** is *$99* and is a very versatile IEM for any music genre. Good for competitive gaming and has a pretty decent soundstage. Amazing build quality and comfort as well! It kinda just ticks all the check marks for me at this price range. https://preview.redd.it/weye0wtson1g1.png?width=2902&format=png&auto=webp&s=b53d2965338c561af1b8bfc5219806788311e1be
