I had an as24 pro about a year ago, and was once my best iem. But definitely sonata is an upgrade. Sonata offers better design, cooler cables and unboxing, better fit, safer high notes and wider soundstage, overall better tone and more refined and musical instrument representation. It worth to spend more money.

Sonata is more flat sound than zs12 pro x, hydro. And it's midrange separated from other frequencies perfectly, presence is just perfect.

For loooooong sessions without any fatigue whatsoever I'd do either the Zero Red or step up and get the KZ Sonata (with all switches off)

No, im using the new Kz Sonata, 28 drivers configuration. But the truth is, the zar was an upgrade coming from the AS 16 Pro x, and upgrading from the zar to the sonata, didnt see much uplift, using 28 drivers. But back to the As16 pro, they aren’t bad for the price and works really well when it comes to footsteps and locating the footsteps. But remember im using a silver/copper wire(TRN Red cable), to me drastically change the sound for me positively.

Damn I bought the sonata thinking it would be endgame kz iem lol for gaming. I EQ them for fps competitive gaming and they sound great and great soundstage but im seen so many positive reviews on the new am16, would they be an “upgrade” coming from the sonata?

For FPS gaming, I think, it's better to take a planar IEM, like Artti T10 Pro, Letshuoer S08, Kiwi Ears Aether, etc or full-BA IEM, like KZ AM16, KZ Sonata. They are fast and detailed, you will hear everything and everyone in the game. Also you will need a DAC for planars, they like powerful sources

The switches make the difference. I mainly listen to music on my iphone. I used AS24 + upgraded cable + type C adapter + Deezer HiFi app that comes with integrated EQ. Now I turn off the EQ in the app as the settings available in the Sonata integrated EQ are good enough. Sound wise is more balanced, with a good stabilization between highs and lows (As24 is too bright in the highs), per example you can add extra bass or lower the highs and the changes will be subtle but they will be there. The Sonata has also more detail, especially in the vocals. I could hear the back vocals clearly in many songs. Overall very good for classical, pop, r&b, indie, alternative rock. For hard rock and metal genres I think having so many layers of sounds (multiple drivers) is not beneficial as these genres are more condensed in sound.

Sonata is your JM-1 Meta tuned-ish, AM16 is on IEF Preference 2025. https://preview.redd.it/44wiwl3p9bhf1.png?width=2400&format=png&auto=webp&s=1235e6f0f5595fea0680a8b2b65306ac287e984c If you try 1100 on your Sonata, it's closer to the Balanced version AM16. Only difference is the slightly more boosted bass, pinna peak change from 2.5k to 3k, and upper treble is less spicy for some. (personally I prefer the Sonata's upper treble) Also Sonata has that nice packaging and better cable included, though I prefer. Though the AM16 is like your classic KZ tuning preference similar to Sonata, AS16 Pro, ZS12 Pro X, etc but retuned for the new KZ milder treble tuning similar to the Saga, Castor, Vader, Hydro, or Trio. If you got the Sonata, it's already a great set. Personally, AM16 is not really an upgrade for the Sonata (more like sidegrade)

Depend on your tastes The current darling would be Edx2/gale for the cheapos. Zvx pro for great budget balanced tuning Zenith, kz flagship one dd with balanced tuning Prx, zenith like tuning on planar which gives less "impact" but more details. Require more power. --- Cca trio/vader balanced, for fun v tuning with ample bass for rock music AM16, thick ish fun v with better res via multi BA setup Vader pro, attempt of giving kz fun v tuning more resolution at cost of reigning in the bass tuning. --- Sonata, kz true flagship. Detail monster for the price. --- According to some reviewers in head fi Top 3 kz (well, ish) right now would be KZ AM16, KZ ZAX/CCA trio, KZ ZVX Pro.

All of them?! The KZ Sonata alone probably cost more than KZ ZAS that IEM alone already has 8 in each and that one have 28 Balanced Armatures

I have KZAS24Pro and KZ Sonatas. KZ Sonata are awesome and a step better than the KZ-AS24's. I got my Sonata's with the 4 tuning switches and the sound is incredible. They are very comfortable -- and someone said they are more comfy than the KZ-AS24s? Basically they are the same shell so they are the same comfort wise. You can't go wrong for \~$150. With 14 drivers per ear, custom IEMs would cost you thousands (if you can find them). I play in a rock band with these and can say there is nothing that comes close in this price range.

As someone who owns a Sonata, I think the Sonata is a very interesting IEM. So if you like an IEM that could make you feel like you're wearing an overear, this is the one to get.
