"felt disappointed as those had a less analytical sound and I felt I was missing a lot of detail on the high frequencies"
"However, the treble in KZ is a little harsh on the ears(at least on my ears), you might need to EQ it a bit or you will feel ear fatigue."
"Tried 5 driver KZs, didn't like them (too harsh and bright)."

"trust me it’s a significant upgrade over the ZS10 ... the ZS12 also has 1 BA driver inside the nozzle, dedicated solely for the mids which even the hydro lacks"
The Xvive wireless system is currently £180 on Amazon in the UK. £50 for some KZ ZS 10 iem’s and you’re good to go with a reliable system.
IEM’s on a budget Linsoul KZ ZS10’s. 5 drivers with good bass response. They punch well above the price of under $50 on Amazon and are widely used by gigging bassists. Wireless system go for the Xvive U4, again way better than the price would suggest and very popular with gigging musos. For pedals your on your own, it’s a saturated market and your favourite probably doesn’t match the guy in the other band on the bill.
KZ all the way. I own a paire of Shure 425 which are much better than the 215. I also own a pair of KZ ZS10 which are cheaper than the 215 (not to mention much much cheaper than the 425). The KZ sounds MUCH better with more bass than my 425. The Shure are back ups now.
Yeah from a Hi Fi perspective the 425 are probably better but as you say, for us drummer, having bottom make so much sense. I love my KZ but after maybe 6 or 7 years, I feel they just lost some bottoms, I'll order a new pair soon.
I used SE425 for something like 5 years until I bought KZ Zs 10 cause people raved about it and they cost a fraction of the price. Soundwise the KZ Zs knocked the Sure425 out of the park. The 425 have been collecting dust since then.
Im using the KZ ZS10 IEMs with some aftermarket foam tips. The bass was so good in them my band mates had to remind me to turn on my amp. I didn’t realize it was off. Because of this it doesn’t take a very large amp to create some feeling on stage. She can already hear just fine so even something like a 210 with a 200-500 watt head will do the job.
I got Westone UM Pro 20 for $500 CAD. I also got KZ ZS10s for $65 CAD. The ZS10s out perform the Westones and are now my go to. That should tell you everything you need to know. Also especially for 5 string players the bass response is great. I can’t tell whether my amp is on or not when I’m playing with my KZs
Just to add some perspective. I have used 215s for years, I got some kz zs10s about 4months ago and found they were far too bassey and had some high freq sibilence... plus the cable is pretty cheap, has a poor fit over the ear. I got some drumeo eardrum black editions a week ago, (black friday deal) and they sound better (much flater curve) for drumming. The fit is better and the cable is 100x better than the KZ. Overall the sound quality for drumming and general music i found slightly better than the shures (kz was good for edm, but bad for drumming and metalcore). Time will tell regarding durability... shures have lasted ages, but quality of eardrums seems good.
I've used the cheapoh Shures, then the SE215s, loved them. Caught the plug in my trap case, got the KZ10s, they are really good as well. If yours are functional and highs are cutting, possibly change out the tips!!! Rock on!!!
My first experience that got me REALLY into music was the kz zs10. I could hear all the drivers and the music had seemed so much fuller, but now when I compare them to a better iem like the dunu davinci which isn't considered highly technical the zs10 just sound like a handful of speakers all playing the same song where on the davinci the crossover is done so well that it sounds like there are very special drivers for each instrument all played together like an orchestra. Not just a lot of noise on top of each other. Had I never upgraded I could have died happy with my 50$ iems instead of having spent 1000's of dollars on audio Too late though
Oof. I have an addiction, like a dragon building a lair. To keep it to just iems I got interested in the idea of multi drivers with crossovers and started with a cheap kz zs10 Then I went and got a kinera Phoenixcall Duece Orchestra lite Davinci Cadenza Pandamon RSV MK2 Ice labs prismatica But right now I'm trying to round things out with some headphones, I just picked up a new tube amp, something simple and to pair with a 105 aer, and I'm currently learning about vacuum tubes lmao.
Only moisture. Putting them in a box with a couple silica packs is usually enough to keep them for many years. Not running them will not harm them. I have kz zs10s which are poorly made that work like new and are a few years old Many people have 2020 sets that have had 3, 4 , 5 owners and work like new.
KZ ZS10s are like $50, but the stock tips are junk imo, get some foam tips and you’ll be good to go. They’re no different from any other earbuds, just connect it to your audio source via headphone jack. I use a different IEM cable for it since the stock ones aren’t the best. Just run it up your back and hook it over your ears.
KZ10’s all day. Affordable and legit for regular gigging use. I’m on year 2 of mine and they’re great.
Shure’s cut out the highs? What model were they and where did you find a pair of that brand for $100? 🤔 When I looked into getting a set, they were the full ear mold pro models and started at $280. I use the KZ-10’s and they give me the full monty of frequency response as well as hearing protection. All for under $50.
Moondrop Chu IIs, KZ ZS10s and Apple earpods..
It's about the value you get for the price you pay. There is hardly anything worth buying in that price range to compete. If it wasn't for my KZ ZS10s, I don't think I would have bothered with high end headphones after my Shure SE530s fell to pieces and the bastards wouldn't warranty them. I stopped using KZ after they tried to pay for positive reviews, but I wouldn't still be an audiophile if it wasn't for them. They have a place in the market, and make a positive impact, even if it a stepping stone to 'better' brands.
