fyi from a fellow Moondrop Chu Chu user Moondrop pake filter biar soundnya bagus, filternya bisa clog dan ngak ada suara Kalo mau bener harus dibersihin, ngak mau ribet order replacement filter straight dari webnya (shipped directly dari ch, lupa brp waktu itu. Dikasih kayak 10 sets dari mereka) When it’s working, it sounds amazing. (Also packagingnya top tier) Until it doesn’t.
Tanpa filter suaranya kacau, kek rasanya bass lu rata kiri, treble lu ratain kanan- (trust me ngak enak) Seri chu emang dua duanya pake filter (Edit : Aria pake filters too) Chu 1 vs Chu 2 - pretty sure same stuff diff tuning \- Chu 2 Kablenya bisa di detached \- Chu 1 lebih flat, Chu 2 lebih V shape (actually a good thing- liat graphnya chu 1 flat af, impressive for the price, but your average buyer is not a producer. So it helps) Also Chu2(idk if Chu1 does) pake copper buat dalemnya, coppernya oxidized 1 year on use (Ngak ngefek suara- aneh aja earwax warna ijo wkwkwk) Worth it sih (for the price x sound quality), cuman kalo buat daily + longterm jaga jaga aja, also rajin bersihin telinga
My favorite and only IEMs are the moon drop chu originals. Bought them for a long trip overseas and was extremely surprised by how well made they were. I'm no writer but listening to my favorite song on those gave me chills. Still doing my own research on a DAP but wont be neglecting IEMs after ive found my music player.
I use the Moondrop Chu (Mk I) when I get tired of using my usual headphones. They were $13 USD when I got them a couple of years before tariffs (Moondrop is a Chinese company). I didn't get them for work, but I started using them occasionally since I already owned them. Keep in mind these have a somewhat pronounced V-shaped response, and the newer Chu 2 has detachable cables (and I believe the newer ones are a bit flatter). I think they're VERY good, especially considering the price, and they're cheap to replace if/when they break or get lost.
A common trick to fix the filter is also just to put it in your mouth and suck on it really hard. The problem is it will just clog again in a week. Considering the amount of selection for chi-fi IEMs at this approximate price point in 2025 I just don't see it as worth it. Both my Chu 1s and Chu 2s had this issue, Moondrop just doesn't care to fix the issue.
The fr you show is similar to Moondrop VDSF or Woodenears target, which has a very natural timbre in my opinion. But the main problem in flat and neutral bass are the seal. Depending on the shape of the ear, tips and IEM the quantity varies. And the most used scenario are noisier enviroments (in a house is better a open-back over ear), when you need to compensate lower frequencies. There are two solutions: add a dip in mid-bass like a Harman tuning, or use a low shell filter in lower frequency (90 Hz or less, which uses new Crin target). The 2nd solution change less the timber of male voices and guitars.
Get the tangzu waner or moondrops chu (not the unnecessarily cobranded one from headphone zone), costs 2k And get a good dac if you dont have the headphone port , audiocular d7 is a good one which can cost you about 1k
Zero2, Moodrop Chu and other one i dont remember
Chu, SSR, Castor Pro and many cheaper ones. This is the most FOMO based hobby I’ve ever been in.
Can’t go wrong with the moondrop chus
Look dude, my first IEMs were the moondrop chus which were good for 20 dollars, but then I got a pair of Aria’s at 80 dollars and the sound quality and comfort of actually wearing the IEMs were night and day. Way better in all aspects. A 20 dollar pair of IEMs can be good but it’s still going to be a 20 dollar pair of IEMs
You’re missing the point I’m trying to make here. A cheap IEM can be good, but by nature of its limited budget, you shouldn’t expect it to feel and perform the same as higher priced IEMs. People love to praise the chus for being good for the price. And it is good for the price. But it doesn’t compare to more expensive items, and it shouldn’t be described as such. I see a lot of people make posts talking about buying a cheaper IEM and then be disappointed by it because their expectations was too high.
