I actually have to sets of the QCY N70 because I am so impressed with the sound. I tested those SOUNDPEATS as well and while I am a big fan of most SOUNDPEATS I own (H3 for example) I returned the Air 5pro + because I did not feel the same X-men’s power that I get from the N70. Glad you are happy with yours.
You know. Bluetooth. Qcy n70. Believe me - there is a bass. Ton of it. Also unpleasant trebble but not too much
You can always buy the QCY N70 for 30-40 bucks if you want to try out MEMS. Sure the Soundpeats are probably slightly better tuned and have more features but at that price point the N70 are hard to beat. And the MEMS are not quite ready yet... the treble can sometimes sound extremely unnatural or harsh or simply overcooked. And taming isn't easy because the treble on the MEMS actually gets worse in tonality with lower volume. It really depends on the song, kinda hit or miss. Not the kind of earbuds you can trust to handle all songs to your expectations.
This is a very nice list, and I agree with much of it. I'm glad you've made the list, and I think we should do what u/iems does and have a vote/sticky for recommendations so that we don't have to type the same things over and over again. I'll disagree with you about the AZ100s being overrated, or at least so overrated that they don't make your best of list in the $200-$350 range. They have a relaxed feel, but still plenty of high detail, and very good soundstage. That might not be everyone's kettle of fish, but I think they're *most non-audiophile's* kettle of fish. I agree with you about the DPP ergonomics and fit--I in fact returned my copy. But I guess the question is what price point to they fall into. In the $100 range (they're often on sale for $125-150) they have some pretty amazing sound quality, and that's a nice price point for them. At $200? Nah. My biggest disagreements come in the budget sphere. I just do not like the sound quality of the EarFun Air Pro. They seem not to have the clarity or soundstage of its similarly priced competitors. Yeah, they load up the other features, but I just think they lag in sound quality compared to similar offerings from CMF, Soundcore, and even Soundpeats. In that range, I'd choose the QCY MeloBuds N70, SoundPeats Capsule 3 Pro+, or the Creative Aurvana Ace 2... buds with xMEMS drivers. The QCY has the best combination of sound, mic, hires codecs, and ANC IMO. They have a janky app and a weird case that can be offputting, but boy do they sound good (and have perfectly acceptable ANC and mics) for $50. It's also going to be hard not to include the CMF Buds (2 Pro or 2 Plus) or the Liberty 4NC / 4 Pro / 5 in that discussion. Maybe it's not fair because the 4Pro and 5's regular prices are above $100, but at least the 4NC should make it into the sub-$100 discussion. And now my questions, because I've not been able to try many of these buds: Are the Status really that good? Better than the AZ100s? Have you noticed the ANC/sound quality problem? Yeah, maybe the XM5's don't sound top-tier, but don't the combination of other factors (nearly class-leading ANC, size, etc) put them in the discussion for people who don't care about top-tier sound quality. Are the Vitas really that good, considering that (a) they don't have a sideloaded app, (b) don't have ANC?
I hate FOMO in this hobby. I was going to get the Pro X's on preorder, but then I thought "I have enough high-end buds; these aren't going to be appreciably different, and I'll have spend $250 on buds that I won't reach for." Now, of course, FOMO is setting in and I'm regretting not grabbing them. Perhaps they'll be back to $250 for Black Friday. EDIT: Oh, P.S., I'd suggest that you try the QCY MeloBuds N70. Get the great performance from MEMS drivers with more features than the Creative Aurvanas, and at \~$50. They've been my go-to recommendation at that price range, so long as people can deal with the awkward case and so-so app.
