Got my first IEM Sgor LUNA
I am actually enjoying it a lot. The L size of the stock eartips is actually comfortable with a good seal. Waiting for the KBEAR Coffee ones to see if they do better. =)
Yeah, I received them this morning, I am still at work, once I am home looking forward to start the unboxing of it. So what brand of tips do you recommend? Spinfit or Kbear coffee?
To be honest, I am actually enjoying the natural sound signature of LUNA.
Forgot to ask, what brand of tips do you recommend for good seal and comfort?
I can already attest to the sturdiness of this build. In my attempt to remove it from the foam encasing, I accidentally catapulted it with full strength into the wall and then onto the floor. Not even a scratch! I like the sound of the Technics AZ100 more. However, I'm enjoying this IEM surprisingly a lot. Going from a flagship true wireless to a cheap IEM, I wasn't expecting a miracle, but I'm positively surprised. I'll listen exclusively to it for a week before reporting back.
I'm enjoying it. Changing the tip also made a difference. It can be a bit bright sometimes but nothing that a simple EQ can't fix. I like the sound signature as it is most of the time, I just set the pregain to -4db to prevent treble peaks. I think it's a great choice for planar IEM especially first time buying
SGOR Luna is a great pick when it goes on discount for under 30usd. Probably the cheapest Planar alongside the KZ PRX when it runs on discount as well Dark version with gold ring makes it look like a Lunar Eclipse. Good looking without screaming for visual attention https://preview.redd.it/2eeor705s7yf1.jpeg?width=4096&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b0322f06cc0435c069c485b030cfa40b608336f1
SGOR Luna is worth a consideration. Can be had for well under US$30 easily as of late and is a very noticeable step up compared to the Chu, Zero2 class of $20 earphones in terms of technical performance. Non fatiguing sound sig as well IMO, but ymmv with that FWIW, owning both, I prefer the SGOR Luna to the Juzear Defiant which costs 3x as much (better punch, resolution, speed) Another in that category worth considering, if they've never made any further modifications to it, is the KZ PRX, which can easily be had for well under US$25
The Luna is a good first IEM choice IMO. I've added another layer of metal filter over the wire mesh filter on mine to mod the sound a tiny bit, lessens the energy of sibilance it may have so I can now wear it for hours on end without experiencing any fatigue Got the Luna for a little less than 27usd a while ago, it definitely outperforms the likes of the Moondrop Chu (Harsh), Salnotes Zero (Okayish, less harsh) on a technical level by a long shot to my ears, and outcompetes the original Truthear Zero (Too much energy) and Zero:Red (Boring, but I like boring) on that front as well, and even the Juzear Defiant (Pleasant, easy listen, but very low res) IMO A slight upgrade over the KZ PR2 as well in terms of budget Planar IEMs, while costing almost half the price of what I paid for the PR2s a few years back It's a winner for the price in my books, punches well above its weight class, especially when discounted, by which it becomes a no-brainer recommendation from me for dipping ones toes into Planar IEMs It sits in my rotation alongside the PR2 (Foam + Filter modded), Zero:Red, Hexa (filters removed + Foam modded), Dioko (paper filter removed + foam modded, Filter replacement due) and the Defiant depending on my mood https://preview.redd.it/24s8hdn4173g1.jpeg?width=4096&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e97df5c55b0c4a89e2bf1e78043564234052f954 Top row: TE Zero:Red (Divinus Velvet Wide), TE Zero (Divinus Velvet), JE Defiant (Divinus Velvet Wide then, Sedna Earfit Light long stem currently) Middle row: 7Hz Zero (Sedna Earfit Light short stem) Bottom row: Moondrop Chu 1 (Spinfit CP100, removable cable mod), SGOR Luna (KBear Coffee Tips), KZ PR2 (KBear Coffee Tips)
The Zero:Red is the safer recommendation in terms of sound for gaming due to its' well-rounded nature, but the build quality leaves something to be desired IMO. The lip of the nozzle for one of the sides has degraded/cracked in places due to me experimenting with tip-rolling a lot before I settled with the Divinus Velvet Wide. There have been reports here of the shell cracking as well, so you have to baby the thing. With regard to the Defiant, it's an easy listen, with missing dynamics/resolution/technicalities for its price class IMO, even with wide, long bore eartips (Azla Sedna Earfit Light, the most treble oriented eartip alongside the Xelastics in my case), you get it if you like your sound thick, and hence it's not geared for competitive gaming in that sense, moreso for movie watching and long + somewhat relaxing listening sessions or listening to tracks that emphasize low end compared to air. A drawback to the Defiant seems to be QC issues as well, as for some folks, it's not just filter clogging (this, I can fix), but sudden one side death to the IEMs drivers (this, I can't handle). While pretty, the shells feel a bit too light to be durable as well IMO. For your case, for something all rounded, cheap, yet still competent for gaming with enough technicalities, the KZ PRX comes to mind for me, followed by the SGOR Luna, with the base Artti T10 being an upgrade to those 2, but if it has to be just between the 2 you listed, just go with the Zero:Red
Been very happy with my Zero 2s (been using for 3 months) but I decided I want to try something different, plus I was curious what planars sound like so I bought the Sgor Luna. I’ve had it for a week now. I use a Topping DX1. To put it simply, the Sgor Luna feels like I’m on Airpods Transparency mode, plus it feels airy? (? not sure if that’s the right term) while the Zero 2’s makes me feel like I’m on Airpods Noise Cancellation (which suits my personal taste better). Not very familiar with IEM terms so this is the best I can describe them. I find that the Sgor Luna is more detailed when I listen to music, and it offers a different flavor of sound from the Zero 2s which I like. ~~But in the end I’ll always keep choosing the Zero 2s.~~ Edit: I prefer the Zero 2 for *anime and gaming.* The Zero 2’s vocals are very intimate. It sounds like the voices are right in right in front of me (or someone speaking directly to me), which is probably why I like the Zero 2s so much. With the Luna, voices sound like I’m listening to someone a bit farther away in a wider room with not much sound proofing. It sounds a bit speaker-ish. Whereas with the Zero 2s I feel like I’m listening to someone talk in a small room that can fit only two people with sound proofing. I tried the Sgor Luna’s with gaming and anime and I don’t really vibe with it. Sound effects like explosions feel inorganic/metallic with anime… (maybe anime audio is just compressed, but I like how the Zero 2 presents sound effects and voices in anime better). Voices in both games and anime feel more immersive on the Zero 2s since they’re more intimate. Owning my 2nd IEM made me realize that ~~I really really love the tuning of the 7hz Zero 2s.~~ Edit: The tuning isn't necessarily what I love, but the **versatility** of the Zero 2. It’s a very good all-rounder and I especially like how it sounds with my games and watching anime and it puts a smile to my face every time I remember how much I bought it for (bc it’s so cheap). Made me realize that I want an IEM that can perform well in everything rather than an IEM that does well in one aspect but not so much in other aspects. I just wish I can find a step up from the Zero 2s that sounds exactly the same but is more technical and detailed. But it’s hard to just take people’s words at face value on how an IEM sounds like because our ears are different. Really wish there was a place where I can demo. 🥲 ~~Overall I like the Zero 2s over the Sgor Lunas in every aspect except technicalities because the details on the Lunas are better.~~ Edit: I like the Luna for music but like the Zero 2 for anime and gaming. In terms of comfort both are good (I have small ears, the Luna is chonky but comfortable, so I have no comments regarding comfort. Luna’s cable is way better. \---------------- Edit: After trying different eartips on the Luna (using the Zero 2 stock ear tips on it) and listening a bit more, I feel like my opinion changed quite a bit. Both of the IEMs sound different in how they present music, not sure in what way.. I just can’t put my finger on it lol, but one thing I’m sure of that I prefer the Luna for math rock, noise rock and shoegaze music; it sounds amazingggg! I actually prefer it for music in general now because it sounds more detailed. That alone is a big advantage because it makes listening sound more pleasant. For other genres I can’t tell the difference. The Luna makes such genres sound richer and more atmospheric. It sounds more resolving while the Zero 2 sounds weaker during the super layered, instrumental-heavy parts of tracks, making those parts of the music sound flatter, the Luna sounds like there's **layers** to it. After using the 7hz Zero 2s ear tips on the Lunas, the anime scene w/ explosions I tested it on don’t sound off or broken anymore, they sound okay now. Weird, I guess the stock eartips of the Luna makes sound effects sound broken...
Hey, I tried swapping ear tips yesterday. I used the orange ear tips of the Zero 2 as it somewhat helps with the big shell of the Luna (it feels like a better fit too). I think it did help?? I can’t really tell, but now I at least hear both IEMs just the same, with the Luna sounding more detailed. The Lunas sound amaaazing though… with noise rock and shoegaze while the Zero 2 struggles with this complicated ‘wall of sound’ parts. I’ve actually had the Luna for about a week now, mainly using it for when I listen to music. At this point I don’t even remember how I thought that the Luna sounds more open, it really might have been the ear tips because they sounded fine as soon as I swapped ear tips. Though in terms of watching anime, even if I tried switching tips, I still like how the Zero 2 presents talking voices, I mean it’s not that good but it fits my preference more bc the Luna sounds speaker-ish? While the Zero 2 talking voices are more right in my face. With this I feel like it boils down to the tuning. I haven’t tried for games yet so I’ll just update this comment.

I thought “Ah they graph similarly in the mids so I probably wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.” Turns out they sound very different haha, maybe because they graph kinda differently in the treble and air region? The Zero 2 has more bass but I like how refined the bass on the Luna is, it feels very ‘thumpy’, like the bass has flavor. You’re right. When I have time I’ll look for IEMs that graph similarly to the Zero 2s and find something that’s more detailed. The only thing I genuinely didn’t like about the Luna is how metallic and unnatural they sound with game sound effects and anime sound effects, magic sound fx and explosions sound broken haha. They sound ‘off’. Will test it on more games because so far I only tried it on one game.
I consider Sgor Luna as the direct upgrade of Castor Bass. It's not as bassy but it's a clean kind of bass that you would like as the OG Bass bleeds too much.
Have you tried different tips? Coz you saying Zero 2 being "noise cancellation" vs Luna being not means there's a bit problem with seals which is not that surprising coz the shell of Luna is really huge (i genuinely believe they can make it smaller or compact at least but they didnt for some reason). I had the same problem with Luna for so long until I got Kbear tips. I don't remember if it's 07 or 06 but it's the normal bore. The luna directly goes into my ears and have deep "noise cancellation" after. Seals do make huge differences. Maybe that's why you don't feel it "intimate" enough. I don't think Luna is airy either but maybe just my ear. Other than the metallic planar timbre, Luna got to be the most natural sounding on sub 50 but with a good dum dum in it.
My first IEM is SGOR Luna, better than my tws which is JBL
Same although i have the dsp ver. Planning to wait for warmer dac and balanced cable to arrive before i make conclusion. So far my SGOR Luna sounds better
Hisenior cano cristales maybe? Jk i like the faceplate tho Well i think you should try cheaper iem. Price is in order > Sgor Luna>KZ PRX>Artti t10 (planar) Tanchjim one>Tin Audio T2>Truthear Hexa>Truthear Pure (Neutral) Tangzu wan'er SG>Tanchjim Bunny>Celest Wyvern Black/Abyss>Simgot EW300 DSP>Aful Explorer (Warm) Or cheap Bone conduction iem like KBear KB02 Edit: And if you like Kiwi Ears they have plenty of good iem like the Septet, Astral, orchestra lite
Been having a blast with the Sgor Luna as well. Technicality is amazing and I couldn't agree more with the general consensus gathered around it, although it was a little tad bit boring compared to my first iems, the kz edx pro 2. But I bet you can EQ it to your own preferences if you are willing to minmax out the iems' overall resonance, I also have an EQ that I have refined for my own personal taste- for me, it sort of opens up the soundstage by a discernable degree. If you like to EQ I suggest you can EQ it with respect to the type of driver an IEM has, so treble and mids are probably the areas where you can hone it to its fullest potential as it is a planar driver. Preamp: -12.0 dB Filter 1: ON LSC Fc 80 Hz Gain 1.5 dB Q 1.000 Filter 2: ON PK Fc 200 Hz Gain 2.0 dB Q 5.000 Filter 3: ON PK Fc 550 Hz Gain 0.8 dB Q 1.000 Filter 4: ON HSC Fc 1500 Hz Gain 1.0 dB Q 0.250 Filter 5: ON PK Fc 2200 Hz Gain 1.0 dB Q 3.000 Filter 6: ON PK Fc 3800 Hz Gain 3.8 dB Q 4.000 Filter 7: ON PK Fc 4000 Hz Gain 2.2 dB Q 4.000 Filter 8: ON PK Fc 8000 Hz Gain -5.5 dB Q 2.000 Filter 9: ON PK Fc 10000 Hz Gain 2.5 dB Q 3.000 Filter 10: ON PK Fc 13500 Hz Gain 5.0 dB Q 3.000
Have fun! Luna's bass and mid tuning is my favorite in the price range range. My only gripe is that it is a bit too safe on the treble for my taste and the 8khz is a bit peaky
Some may differ, but my two Planar IEMs, my KZ PRX and SGOR Luna sound much better. Better tuning and precision. But, these are power hungry af.
I run sgor luna on some kz ae01 bluetooth earhooks and yeah it didn't get quite loud enough using my phone or dap. Recently I put the dap into high gain and now I can't actually go full volume as its too loud.
Hey man, good review, pretty insightful... Love the comparo with the Luna (love that cheapie planar), the Aether is in my top 3 of iems currently (and with a better cable, eartips and eq... Ohhh boys and girls).
Under 100 the TinHifi Dudu and the Artti T10 og. The T10 pro nah, is shouty and unnatural, with eq is fixable but nah, it's not an upgrade to the T10 og A honorable mention to the PRX, PR2 and Sgor Luna, especially the KZ x HBB PR2 is the best price/performance planar iem under 50 usd IMHO. The Aether is my favorite, but yeah, 170 usd msrp and an underwhelming package.
